Bilateral wrist dislocation in an above knee amputee with advanced rheumatoid arthritis. Attempts at ambulation.

The ambulatory difficulties of a patient with long standing rheumatoid arthritis with an above knee amputation and bilateral wrist dislocations has not been previously reported. Although wrist fusion did in fact increase his hand strength, control and stability, he still lacked sufficient hand strength and grip to don and doff the prosthesis, nor could he use assistive devices in order to become an independent ambulator. The results of wrist fusion and attempts at ambulation are discussed.

[CLINICAL OBSERVATION OF ONE-STAGE ARTHROSCOPIC RECONSTRUCTION AND STRICT IMMOBILIZATION FOR TREATMENT OF KNEE DISLOCATION].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of one-stage arthroscopic reconstruction and strict immobilization for 6 weeks for treatment of knee dislocation. METHODS: Between August 2010 and May 2013, 22 cases (22 knees) of knee dislocation were treated with one-stage reconstruction and strict immobilization for 6 weeks. There were 15 males and 7 females, aged 21-54 years (mean, 31.5 years). The left knee and right knee were involved in 8 cases and 14 cases respectively. The disease causes were traffic accident in 12 cases, falling from height in 6 cases, and sports injury in 4 cases. The tim

Hip and knee dislocation during femoral lengthening in congenital short femur: a rare case report.

Congenital short femur is a rare and complex deformity that is often associated with other anomalies. There are few reports of either hip or knee dislocations during femoral lengthening in congenital short femur predisposed by associated anomaly. However, there are probably no case reports of both hip and knee joint dislocation occurring in same case during femoral lengthening in congenital short femur. We have this case of congenital short femur, where both hip and knee dislocation occurs during femoral lengthening. We reviewed different article to understand the cause and avoid such unwanted

One-stage posterior cruciate ligament inlay reconstruction combining anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction following knee dislocation.

Knee dislocation is a rare but severe injury that involves damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), lateral or medial ligamentous structures, and other soft tissues or bony structures surrounding the knee joint. No consensus exists regarding the best treatment method. This work presents a method of 1-stage ACL and PCL reconstruction in which a contralateral quadriceps tendon-bone autograft with tibial inlay technique is used for the PCL and contralateral hamstring tendon autograft with suspension fixation is used for the ACL. After harvesting grafts, t

Locked lateral patella dislocation with generalized ligamentous laxity after arthroscopic lateral release of the knee.

We describe the case of a 14-year-old boy with patellar instability on both sides resulting from ligamentous hyperlaxity and dysplasia of the lateral femoral condyle who had previously undergone an arthroscopic lateral release as well as plication of the medial capsule. The patient presented to our clinic 2 years after surgery with a locked lateral patella dislocation on the left side. The surgical correction involved a substantial open lateral release including an excision of the scar tissue and stabilization of the patella in the patellofemoral groove by tibial tubercle medialization and pli

Dislocation/subluxation of meniscal bearing elements after New Jersey low-contact stress total knee arthroplasty.

From October 1985 to April 1986, 43 consecutive New Jersey low-contact stress total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) were performed for degenerative arthritis of the knee. At the one-year follow-up examination, 91% of the patients had good to excellent results based on the Hospital for Special Surgery scoring system. Four patients, however, sustained dislocation/subluxation of the meniscal bearing elements. Three of these occurred within 13 days postoperatively, and one patient sustained a dislocation at six months postoperatively. These four patients were treated with revision TKA. Despite followin

Acute surgical management of traumatic knee dislocations--Average follow-up of 10 years.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic knee dislocations have been managed historically by means of either delayed reconstruction or non-operative methods. More recently, there has been a trend towards early reconstruction. There is no clear consensus in the literature as to how such patients should be managed and in what time frame. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to establish the long-term outcome of patients who underwent acute surgical management of their traumatic knee dislocation. METHODS: Thirty-six patients with traumatic knee dislocations were treated by multi-ligament reconstruction. All surgi

Reconstruction of quadriceps tendon with Achilles tendon allograft in older children with congenital dislocation of the knee.

This is a case report of two children with congenital dislocation of the knee. They have been treated surgically with Z-lengthening of the quadriceps tendon and additional reconstruction of the quadriceps tendon with Achilles tendon allograft to fill in the remaining average 6 cm gap of the tendon. The patients were two girls, 6 and 9 years old. One of them had an operative treatment previously with a tendon lengthening procedure and it was failed and the other patient was untreated before. Preoperatively, untreated case was unable to walk. The other patient was limping. None of them was able

[Dislocation and fractures around the knee with popliteal artery injury: A retrospective analysis of 54 cases].

A retrospective multicentric series of 54 cases of knee trauma with acute ischemia by popliteal artery injury were analyzed. These high-energy traumas involved 25 dislocations and 29 fractures, 11 involving distal femur, 15 the proximal tibia and 3 a floating knee. There were 45 men and 7 women, mean age 42 years. Thirty-three patients suffered multiple injuries. The knee injury was open in 25 cases and associated with sciatic paralysis in 32. Vascular repair was almost always achieved with bypass surgery. An external fixator was used in 39 patients. Vascular repair was unsuccessful in three c

Permanent patellar dislocation and osteoarthritis of the knee after femoral fracture in childhood. A case report.

A 52 year-old woman suffered bilateral femoral shaft fractures when she was 5 years old and they were treated surgically. She had been able to walk without pain and giving way throughout her young and adult life, however, when she came to us with a 1-year history of the right knee pain, she could walk only 10 m continuously. The right knee revealed valgus deformity with complete lateral patellar dislocation. The femoro-tibial angle was 154 degrees and arthritic change was seen in the femorotibial joint. Surfaces of both the patella and the femur were degraded. Twenty-two degrees of rotational

Depth insufficiency of the proximal trochlear groove on lateral radiographs of the knee: relation to patellar dislocation.

The depth of the trochlear groove was frequently noted to be insufficient in knees with patellar instability, particularly in the proximal portion of the trochlea. To confirm this observation, the depth of the trochlear groove of the femur was measured on lateral radiographs of 218 knees: 40 knees in 20 asymptomatic subjects, 116 knees in 69 patients undergoing radiography for various symptoms (96 without and 20 with patellar subluxation, determined on axial radiographs), and 62 knees in 34 patients who underwent surgery for recurrent dislocation or subluxation of one or both patellae (40 trea

Locked Knee and Inferior Patellar Dislocation in an Elderly Patient: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Inferior patellar dislocations in elderly patients are rare and typically occur in the presence of significant patellofemoral arthritis. These dislocations often present as a locked knee, which can be mistaken for other knee pathologies. While treatment has generally involved closed reduction, there is limited literature on recurrence and the role of surgical intervention. CASE REPORT: An 85-year-old female presented with a locked right knee following a fall, unable to bear weight or extend the knee. Radiographs and MRI revealed an inferior patellar dislocation due to a superior

Open approaches for cruciate ligament reconstruction in knee dislocations: A technical note and case series.

INTRODUCTION: Arthroscopic surgery is the gold standard for cruciate ligament reconstruction in multi-ligament knee injuries. However, hospitals in limited-resource settings often lack arthroscopic-trained surgeons or equipment. Open approaches for treating knee dislocations can overcome many of these limitations. METHODOLOGY: This study aims to describe techniques for open approaches in a supine patient to address the cruciate ligaments in multi-ligament knee injuries and to review associated complications and clinical outcomes in a retrospective case series. RESULTS: Ten patients with mult

The Effect of Irreducible Dislocation on Functional Outcomes in Knees With Multiligament Injuries: A Matched-Cohort Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Most cases of bicruciate knee dislocation (KD) with associated posteromedial disruption (KD-IIIM) are reducible, but some cannot be reduced by closed reduction because of soft tissue incarceration. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical characteristics and functional outcomes of KD-IIIM injuries in patients with or without incarceration of soft tissue requiring open or arthroscopic reduction. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study of patients with KD was conducted between January 2013 and December 2017 at a single large institution.
