Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) has become a widely used method for nutritional support, particularly in patients with advanced head and neck carcinomas. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecologic malignancy, with approximately 70% of patients having peritoneal involvement at the time of diagnosis. It spreads predominantly by direct invasion and intraperitoneal dissemination. The staging system is surgically based, with stage I disease being limited to one or both ovaries. Laparoscopy is increasingly used by gynaecologists for the investigation of adnexal masses. Uncertainty exists whether ovarian tumours of low malignant potential can effectively be treated by laparoscopy, whether staging bears a benefit for all patients, whether port-site metastases are a problem and how long patients need to be followed up after surgery. This review summarises the evidence to address these important questions.

A case of a hepatocellular carcinoma with a metastasis to abdominal wall is reported. The patient was a 52-year-old man who, in December, 1982, had been found to have a 16 x 13 cm of tumor in the right lobe of the liver. He received transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) several times and a hepatic segmentectomy twice. He survived more than six years until his death on January, 17, 1989. A subcutaneous tumor that had appeared in May, 1988 had gradually increased in size and was found to have reached 6 x 5.5 x 2.5 cm on autopsy. The tumor had connected directly with the liver tumor.

Following injection into the portal venous or vena caval systems, tumour cells are held up almost exclusively in the liver or lung respectively, and subsequent outgrowth of tumour only occurs in these organs. Following systemic arterial injection, cells are distributed, and subsequently grow, in a variety of organs. However, the adrenal gland supports tumour growth from much fewer cells than the lung, and this is partly due to the fact the rate of tumour cell loss in the initial 48 h is very high in the latter compared to the former organ.

Hemangioblastoma disseminated along leptomeninges from the solitary cranial lesion without von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is a quite rare instance with 23 cases reported in 40 years. The differential diagnosis of thyroid tissue found laterally in the neck includes several conditions: lymph node deposits of thyroid carcinoma, "benign metastatic thyroidosis," detached thyroid nodules, and true ectopic thyroid tissue. Port-site recurrences (PSRs) are abdominal wall recurrences that occur in the subcutaneous tissue within a trocar site after cancer laparoscopy and are not associated with peritoneal carcinomatosis. Small intestinal adenocarcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm, and its clinicopathologic characteristics have not been well elucidated. A total of 197 small intestinal adenocarcinoma cases were collected from 22 institutions in South Korea and were evaluated for clinicopathologic factors that affect the prognosis of small intestinal adenocarcinoma patients using univariate and multivariate analyses. We report herein the case of a 46-year-old man who developed recurrences in both the incisional laparotomy wound of the abdominal wall and the stapled anastomotic site following ileo-colonic resection for cecum cancer. The patient had initially undergone laparoscopic surgery but had converted to conventional open surgery. Intestinal reconstruction had been performed by stapled functional end-to-end anastomosis between the ileum and ascending colon. The implantation of exfoliated cancer cells during the operation may have caused recurrence.
