Effect of Weight-Adjusted Phenylephrine, Norepinephrine, and Metaraminol for Elective Cesarean Delivery on Neonatal Acid-Base Status: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

PURPOSE: Many previous trials have compared the effects of different vasoactive drugs on cesarean section patients, but their infusion rate is based on experience rather than high-quality evidence. It is difficult to judge whether the effect of vasoactive drug comes from the better choice or a more appropriate at rates of vasoactive drugs. The effect of vasoactive drugs at the rates of the 90% effective dose needs to be verified and compared. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Women undergoing elective caesarean delivery under combined spinal-epidural anaesthesia were randomized to receive phenylephrine o

Computerized electroencephalographic monitoring and selective shunting: influence on intraoperative administration of phenylephrine and myocardial infarction after general anesthesia for carotid endarterectomy.

During carotid endarterectomy (CEA), phenylephrine infusions are commonly used to induce hypertension during carotid clamping in an attempt to increase collateral cerebral blood flow and prevent cerebral ischemia. Although this practice appears to increase the incidence of intraoperative myocardial ischemia during CEA when general anesthesia is employed, whether the limited use of phenylephrine infusions in specific instances of cerebral ischemia, as shown on an electro-encephalogram, results in low perioperative rates of both myocardial infarction (MI) and cerebral infarction remains unclear.

Estimation of the Effective Dose of Phenylephrine Infusion for Preventing Spinal Anesthesia-Induced Hypotension in Elective Cesarean Deliveries: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery may be associated with hypotension and fetal acidosis. Phenylephrine, an α1 adrenergic receptor agonist, is effective in treating hypotension with the benefit of less placental transfer. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the optimum dose of prophylactic phenylephrine infusion for preventing spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension in women undergoing elective cesarean delivery and to assess its effect on fetal outcomes, as measured by APGAR scores at 1, 5, and 10 minutes. METHODOLOGY: Two hundred and forty patients were

Comparison of Intermittent Intravenous Boluses of Phenylephrine and Norepinephrine to Prevent and Treat Spinal-Induced Hypotension in Cesarean Deliveries: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Phenylephrine (PE) is currently the vasopressor of choice to prevent and treat spinal-induced hypotension at cesarean delivery (CD). However, its use is often associated with reflex bradycardia. Norepinephrine (NE) has been put forward as an alternative vasopressor during CD due to its ability to treat hypotension while maintaining heart rate (HR). Recent studies have focused on the role of NE used as an infusion with favorable results compared to PE. No studies have compared equipotent bolus doses of PE and NE at CD. We hypothesized that when used in equipotent doses as an intermi

The Effect of Prophylactic Infusion of Combined Ephedrin and Phenylephrine on Maternal Hemodynamic after Spinal Anesthesia for Cesarean Section: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

UNLABELLED: Several techniques have been proposed to prevent hypotension in obstetric patients. Ephedrine and phenylephrine are individually used to prevent maternal hypotension; however, each has its own drawbacks. Some researchers have reported that the infusion of combined ephedrine and phenylephrine immediately after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery reduces the incidence of maternal hypotension. Other studies have indicated that the combination is not superior to the infusion of an individual agent. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of prophylactic infusion of ephedrine

[Stimulation of gastric mucosa afferents by phenylephrine potentiates anticonvulsive and eliminates sedative action of sodium valproate in the pentylenetetrazol kindling model in rats].

Sodium valproate after chronic intragastric administration in the high dose of 100-200 mg/kg eliminates generalized clonic-tonic pentylenetetrazol seizures in 100 % of rats, but only in 33-57 % of rats it prevents local clonic kindling seizures. Strong sedation is induced by the specified doses of sodium valproate. The combined oral chronic administration of phenylephrine in threshold, noneffective alone dose of 0.2 mg/kg and sodium valproate in high doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg potentiates anticonvulsive action of sodium valproate, because prevents both clonic-tonic kindling. seizures in
