BACKGROUND: Although videolaryngoscopes improve glottic visualization, their actual usefulness in intubation is not yet established.
AIMS: The primary objective was to compare the ease of oral intubation with the use of 60° angled styletted endotracheal tube versus that performed over bougie inserted under videolaryngoscopic guidance. The secondary objectives were assessment of incidence of airway loss, hemodynamic changes, and time and number of attempts at intubation.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN: This prospective randomized study was conducted in a tertiary care institution.

We examined the types and sizes of 100 asbestos fibers in lung tissue obtained from 9 lung-cancer cases (5 autopsy and 4 surgical) with more than 10(4) asbestos bodies per 5 g of wet lung tissue, asbestos bodies in histological sections, and the history of occupational asbestos exposure. Evaluation of asbestos fibers by transmission electron microscopy (2,000 x magnification) revealed that most fibers were longer than 3 microns (96%) and were thicker than 0.1 micron (93%). INTRODUCTION: Currently, risky driving behaviour is a major contributor to road crashes and as a result, wide array of tools have been developed in order to record and improve driving behaviour. Within that group of tools, interventions have been indicated to significantly enhance driving behaviour and road safety. Little is known about personal exposure levels of black carbon (BC), a fraction of PM2.5, specifically in the transport microenvironments. In this study, real-time personal exposure to BC recorded by a portable microAeth AE51 was investigated in microenvironments in a round-trip from Hanoi (Vietnam) directly to Singapore. Most particles in the rail subway environment are sub-micron sized ferruginous flakes and splinters generated mechanically by frictional wear of brake pads, wheels and rails. Twelve experienced train drivers were asked to operate the train function safety circuit (SIFA)--a paced secondary motor task which is expected to guarantee the driver's fitness for service on engines of the German Federal Railway--under laboratory conditions of extreme monotony.
