Esthetic Rehabilitation of Retained Primary Teeth-A Conservative Approach.

With the advancement in ceramic restorations bonded to tooth structure, the treatment has become a feasible and conservative option to restore teeth with alteration in shape when owing to high demand in esthetics, with or without minimum tooth preparation. This article describes a report of a 32-year-old woman who was dissatisfied with her smile. The patient reported that she still had deciduous teeth, and that the maxillary lateral incisors had been restored with direct resin composite to correct the teeth shape. After discussing the restorative possibilities, a decision was made to place all

Clinical, radiographic, and histological observation of a human immature permanent tooth with chronic apical abscess after revitalization treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Revitalization procedures have been widely used for the treatment of immature permanent teeth with apical periodontitis. The treatment procedures appear to be capable of encouraging continued root development and thickening of the canal walls. The nature of tissues formed in the canal space and at the root apex after revitalization has been shown histologically in several animal studies; similar studies in humans were recently reported. METHODS: A 9-year-old boy had a traumatic injury to his upper anterior teeth. Tooth #9 suffered a complicated crown fracture with a pulp exposur

Regional distribution of interglobular dentine in human teeth.

Interglobular dentine (IGD) is an area of poorly mineralized dentine matrix. It has been reported that there is an association between the retraction of odontoblast processes (OP) and the formation of IGD. A variation of the extent of OP has been described depending on the region of the tooth and age. This study aimed to find out the regional distribution of IGD in human teeth to observe any association between the extent of OP and the pattern of distribution of IGD. Ground sections were prepared from 52 extracted permanent teeth and the presence of IGD was observed in different regions of the

An experimental approach on dynamic occlusal fingerprint analysis to simulate use-wear localisation and development on stone tools.

Information about the use of stone tools in the past is encoded in the wear patterns left on their surface; however, post-depositional processes can modify and obstruct these traces. One aim in the field of lithic functional analysis is to develop methods to detect and quantify these traces on stone tools. The occlusal fingerprint analysis (OFA) is a well-established method in dental wear studies to virtually simulate dental occlusal (contact between teeth) stroke movements and thus locate and quantify the sequential contact between opposing tooth crowns. Reaching across disciplines, we conduc

Equine Dental Floating (Crown Osontoplasty).

Odontoplasty (floating and occlusal equilibration) is the most commonly performed procedure in equine dentistry. From an anatomic perspective, an irregular occlusal surface, prominent cingula, transverse ridges, and enamel points all contribute to the function, form, and longevity of the equine cheek tooth. With limited reserve crown available and an average functional life range between 18 and 25 years, removal of tooth structure should be conservative. The authors consider a quality oral examination to be the most important dental procedure performed in the horse. Individual tooth evaluation

Fracture strength of preformed zirconia crown and CAD-CAM zirconia, ceramic, and hybrid composite crowns for the restoration of primary molars: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Paediatric-preformed zirconia crowns have been associated with several issues, primarily their inability to be crimped and the need for extensive tooth preparation. Additionally, the capacity to adjust the size, shape, and fit of these crowns is very limited. AIM: To evaluate and compare the fracture strength of four different types of dental crowns intended for paediatric patients. DESIGN: The fracture resistance of four types of paediatric crowns was evaluated using the universal testing machine; freshly extracted primary molars received one of the following: preformed zirconia

A technique for direct bonding of unerupted teeth as an aid to orthodontics.

(1) A significant percentage of orthodontic practice involves impacted teeth that require surgical procedures to aid in their successful realignment. (2) A technique for direct bonding to the crown is a simple, one operation procedure which dies not damage the tooth or adjacent tissues. (3) The most beneficial application of force to any preselected aspect of the crown to help reduce traction time can be used. (4) If carried out correctly, there is little likelihood of failure.

The cranial osteology and feeding ecology of the metriorhynchid crocodylomorph genera Dakosaurus and Plesiosuchus from the late Jurassic of Europe.

BACKGROUND: Dakosaurus and Plesiosuchus are characteristic genera of aquatic, large-bodied, macrophagous metriorhynchid crocodylomorphs. Recent studies show that these genera were apex predators in marine ecosystems during the latter part of the Late Jurassic, with robust skulls and strong bite forces optimized for feeding on large prey. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here we present comprehensive osteological descriptions and systematic revisions of the type species of both genera, and in doing so we resurrect the genus Plesiosuchus for the species Dakosaurus manselii. [Mandibular third molar extractions with proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve canal: what are the alternatives?].

Throughout the evolution, modern diet became softer and led to less attrition and less mesial migration of teeth resulting in an increased incidence of teeth impaction. When a mandibular third molar extraction is indicated, damage to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is one of the most important complications. The objective of this review is to provide an overview of the alternative treatment modalities to total removal for a third mandibular molar in cases of proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve. Among the discussed options are: Orthodontic intervention to slowly move the tooth apex away
