Early invasive carcinoma of the cervix.

Ninety-two patients with early invasive carcinoma of the cervix (5 mm or less) treated between July 1977 and June 1990 are reviewed. Eighty patients had squamous cell carcinomas and 12 had adenocarcinomas. The diagnosis was established by conization in 77 of 92 (83.6%) patients. Thirty-six patients (39%) had a depth of stromal invasion of 1 mm or less, 32 patients (35%) between 1 and 3 mm, and 24 patients (26%) between 3 and 5 mm. Forty-four patients were treated with radical hysterectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy (RHND). None of these patients had positive lymph nodes. Thirty-three

Consensus on surgical technique for sentinel lymph node dissection in cervical cancer.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to establish a consensus on the surgical technique for sentinel lymph node (SLN) dissection in cervical cancer. METHODS: A 26 question survey was emailed to international expert gynecological oncology surgeons. A two-step modified Delphi method was used to establish consensus. After a first round of online survey, the questions were amended and a second round, along with semistructured interviews was performed. Consensus was defined using a 70% cut-off for agreement. RESULTS: Twenty-five of 38 (65.8%) experts responded to the first and second rounds o

Fertility preservation and reproductive outcomes in young women with breast and gynecological cancers: a new challenge for the clinician.

The increasing survival rates among young women diagnosed with cancer have shifted attention toward long-term quality-of-life issues, particularly fertility preservation and reproductive outcomes. Advances in cancer therapies have significantly improved prognosis in breast and gynecological malignancies; however, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and radical surgery may severely compromise ovarian function and reproductive potential, leading to premature ovarian failure, infertility, and important psychological consequences. This review aims to summarize the current evidence regarding fertility pres

Comprehension and Practice Patterns of Korean Urologists for Retractile and Gliding Testes.

BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of cervical cancer in younger women highlights the need for personalized fertility-preserving treatment strategies. Current fertility preservation approaches for early-stage cervical cancer primarily involve cervical conization and radical trachelectomy. However, removing part or all of the cervix can negatively impact reproductive outcomes. These procedures increase the risk of preterm birth and miscarriage, and sometimes require additional surgery due to positive margins. Combined chemotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy has demonstrate

Early invasive cervical cancer during pregnancy: different therapeutic options to preserve fertility.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed during pregnancy. Conservative management is possible, and different options should be discussed with patients. The main decision parameters are stage of disease, lymph node status, trimester of pregnancy and wishes of the patient. We reviewed our experience on cases of early-stage cervical cancer discovered during pregnancy and treated with different options of fertility-sparing management. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 1990 and 2010, 5 patients with early-stage cervical cancer diagnosed during pregnancy were referred

[Carcinoma of the cervical stump--multicenter study].

OBJECTIVES: Cervix-sparing hysterectomy due to benign conditions remains controversial, especially when the presumed risk of cervical cancer in the retained cervical stump is concerned. On the other hand, supracervical hysterectomy is associated with shorter operative time, decreased blood loss and decreased intraoperative complications. Moreover, beneficial effects of retaining the cervix on the pelvic statics and female psychosexual functioning have been suggested, although not yet proven. THE AIM: The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and types of cervical cancers in the reta

Application of a Pattern-based Classification System for Invasive Endocervical Adenocarcinoma in Cervical Biopsy, Cone and Loop Electrosurgical Excision (LEEP) Material: Pattern on Cone and LEEP is Predictive of Pattern in the Overall Tumor.

A pattern-based classification system has been recently proposed for invasive endocervical adenocarcinoma, which is predictive of the risk of nodal metastases. Identifying cases at risk of nodal involvement is most relevant at the time of biopsy and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) to allow for optimal surgical planning, and, most importantly, consideration of lymphadenectomy. This study aims to determine the topography of patterns of stromal invasion in invasive endocervical adenocarcinoma with emphasis on patterns in biopsy, cone, and LEEP. Invasive pattern was assessed followi

Chien-Tien Hsu Memorial Lecture. Fertility and gynaecologic malignancies.

Fertility and gynaecological malignancies have an important relationship. A clear inverse relationship exists between family size and the incidence of ovarian and endometrial cancer. Current methods of fertility control have an influence on subsequent development of various gynaecological malignancies. A slightly increased risk of breast cancer has been reported in current users and those who had used hormonal contraceptives (OCs) within 10 years; this risk declined with time and disappeared after 10 years. Women who started OC before age 20 had a higher relative risk; the disease did not spre

Global research hotspots and trends in the field of surgical treatment of congenital tracheal stenosis in infants and children over the past 40 years: A bibliometric and visualization study.

Congenital tracheal stenosis (CTS) is a rare and highly fatal airway obstructive disorder. Recent years have seen the recognition of several forms of surgery as safe and effective means of improving the survival of children with CTS. It is important to complement the comprehensive and systematic pulse combing analysis of this research field. In order to give future researchers ideas and references, we examine the literature on the surgical treatment of CTS during the past 40 years and compile a summary of the cutting-edge trends and research hotspots in this area. A search was conducted throug
