Depression and Related Factors in Patients with Parkinson's Disease at High Altitude.

PURPOSE: Depression seems to aggravate progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). Hypoxia stress may be one of the pathogenic factors leading to PD. We investigated the characteristics of PD and factors related to Parkinson's disease depression (PDD) at high altitude (mean altitude ≥2300 m). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Totally 221 PD patients of three different nationalities (Han, Hui, and Tibetan) were recruited in a high-altitude hospital. Depression was present in 55.6% of them. Patient data were examined, including demographic information, medical history, disease duration and family history. Psy

Fried phenotype of frailty: cross-sectional comparison of three frailty stages on various health domains.

BACKGROUND: The population ageing in most Western countries leads to a larger number of frail older people. These frail people are at an increased risk of negative health outcomes, such as functional decline, falls, institutionalisation and mortality. Many approaches are available for identifying frailty among older people. Researchers most often use Fried and colleagues' description of the frailty phenotype. The authors describe five physical criteria. Other researchers prefer a combination of measurements in the social, psychological and/or physical domains. The aim of this study is to descr

Living alone: the choice and health of older women.

Contrary to the stereotype of being dependent and emotionally unstable, and unable to contribute to society, older women living alone are psychologically secure in their well-being and are happy about being independent. Nurses are encouraged to understand personal perceptions of older women when providing care for these individuals. Studies of diverse cultures and ethnicities are needed to build knowledge about older women living alone.

A digital twin framework for predicting and simulating type 2 diabetes onset using retrospective lifestyle data.

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a rising global health concern, heavily influenced by modifiable lifestyle and psychosocial factors. However, most predictive tools focus on biomedical markers and rely on real-time data from wearables or electronic health records, limiting their scalability in resource-constrained settings. This study presents a novel digital twin (DT) framework that uses retrospective lifestyle, behavioral, and psychosocial data to forecast T2DM onset and simulate the estimated effects of preventive interventions. METHODS: Data were drawn from 19,774 particip

Thematic Analysis of Smoking Cessation and Future Cessation Interventions for Cancer Survivors: Convenience Sampling Study.

BACKGROUND: Smoking after a cancer diagnosis has significant health consequences, and there are substantial benefits if cancer survivors cease smoking. However, there are few smoking cessation interventions for cancer survivors that have been effective, and they are highly resource intensive. Thus, novel low resource cessation interventions are needed. One such intervention modality that has not been tested among cancer survivors is using pre-recorded videos to deliver information about skills and resources to achieve smoking cessation. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess barriers to smokin

The efficacy of a transdiagnostic group cognitive behavioral intervention for Chinese elderly with emotional disorders: A one-year follow-up randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: With the global aging, geriatric emotional disorders have received more and more attention. Psychotherapy is an effective approach for alleviating the symptoms associated with emotional disorder, but the number of experienced therapists is low. Studies should be conducted to explore a low-cost and efficient treatment method. Previous findings indicate that transdiagnostic cognitive behavior therapy is an effective approach for treatment of emotional disorders. Group therapy is appropriate for the elderly as they are characterized by high levels of loneliness. In this study, we comp

Association of disrupted circadian rhythmicity with mood disorders, subjective wellbeing, and cognitive function: a cross-sectional study of 91 105 participants from the UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND: Disruption of sleep and circadian rhythmicity is a core feature of mood disorders and might be associated with increased susceptibility to such disorders. Previous studies in this area have used subjective reports of activity and sleep patterns, but the availability of accelerometer-based data from UK Biobank participants permits the derivation and analysis of new, objectively ascertained circadian rhythmicity parameters. We examined associations between objectively assessed circadian rhythmicity and mental health and wellbeing phenotypes, including lifetime history of mood disorde

A qualitative study on the experiences of stigmatisation and spiritual coping among women diagnosed with cervical cancer in Turkey.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is one of the most common gynecological cancers among women worldwide and stands out as a significant public health issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Despite the preventable nature of the disease, access to early diagnosis and treatment is often limited by structural, individual, and societal barriers. Stigma associated with cervical cancer and HPV is at the forefront of these barriers. Furthermore, spiritual resources are known to play a critical role in coping with the psychosocial burden of the disease. The aim of this study is to examine h
