A qualitative study on the experiences of stigmatisation and spiritual coping among women diagnosed with cervical cancer in Turkey.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is one of the most common gynecological cancers among women worldwide and stands out as a significant public health issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Despite the preventable nature of the disease, access to early diagnosis and treatment is often limited by structural, individual, and societal barriers. Stigma associated with cervical cancer and HPV is at the forefront of these barriers. Furthermore, spiritual resources are known to play a critical role in coping with the psychosocial burden of the disease. The aim of this study is to examine h

Experiences of a Community-Based Digital Intervention Among Older People Living in a Low-Income Neighborhood: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults worldwide experienced heightened risks of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and poor mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, digital technology emerged as a means to mitigate social isolation and enhance social connectedness among older adults. However, older adults' behaviors and attitudes toward the adoption and use of digital technology are heterogeneous and shaped by factors such as age, income, and education. Few empirical studies have examined how older adults experiencing social and economic disadvantages perceive the learning of digit

The effect of participation in support groups on retirement syndrome in older adults.

BACKGROUND: Retirement and aging are phenomena that often occur simultaneously and lead to various physical and psychological changes in older adults. Retirement syndrome consists of symptoms such as feelings of emptiness, loneliness, uselessness, lack of clear understanding of future conditions and dissatisfaction with one's performance after retirement. This phenomenon requires interventions to adapt to these changes. Considering the supportive role of nurses, the formation of support groups as an effective intervention in adapting to transitional stages is emphasized. AIMS: This study aims

Impact of genetic testing in developmental and epileptic encephalopathy- parents' perspective.

BACKGROUND: Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) are a group of severe and heterogeneous epilepsies. Most of the affected patients have treatment refractory seizures, intellectual disability (ID), and multiple comorbidities. The condition has a negative impact on quality of life, both for the patients and their families. In recent decades, genetic testing has become an important part of the diagnostic routine investigation of patients with DEE. However, there are few quantitative studies on parental experiences and their perspectives on the genetic testing of their children. The

Clinical stance on response initiation in autistic adults: co-creating an integrative approach based on theory and lived experiences to act from language, via motor movement to wellbeing.

Getting 'stuck', literally and figuratively, is a common experience for autistic people. Literally 'stuck' means exhibiting limited response initiation due to immobility with tense muscles and inability to move. Figuratively 'stuck' means loneliness, passivity or captivity in activities that do not offer long-term satisfaction. To further conceptualize this complex phenomenon of limited response initiation in autistic individuals, we performed qualitative interviews and focus groups with autistic people and their family members, followed by brainstorm sessions and a Delphi study with input fro

Silent burdens: global perspectives on grief and psychological strain among neuro-oncology neurosurgeons.

Neuro-oncology neurosurgeons (NONs) manage patients with progressive neurological decline, make high-stakes decisions, and face repeated exposure to death. While burnout has been recognized as a significant concern, grief and psychological strain remain underexplored as related, partly overlapping phenomena. To address this gap, we convened an exploratory international cohort of NONs to develop a dialogue-informed perspective on grief. Insights from semistructured roundtable discussions were used to explore how grief and psychological strain are experienced, their key triggers, coping approach

Moderated Online Social Therapy (MOST) in Help-Seeking Young People: Pilot Randomized Controlled Study.

BACKGROUND: In the context of a sharp rise in help-seeking in youth mental health, digital mental health interventions offer enormous potential to improve outcomes, facilitate access, and meet the increasing demand for mental health services. For example, for young adults attending third-level education, digital mental health interventions may support help-seeking students while either waiting to attend student counseling or to sustain gains once a brief course of face-to-face counseling sessions has been completed. Moderated Online Social Therapy (MOST) is an online intervention that combines

First-year nursing students' accounts of reasons for student depression.

This study used content analysis and hermeneutics to examine 53 first-year nursing students' surmised reasons for their own or their peers' experiences of feeling down or depressed. Study data were confidential e-mail responses (n = 53) to the question, "If you or another student you know has been feeling down or depressed, can you describe a reason?" Content analysis reflected respondents' sense of their own relatedness to the experience; a general sense of awareness of the occurrence of feeling down or depressed among students; suggested reasons, from general to specific, for those experienc

Personalized Intelligent Chatbot Based on AI-Generated Content Assists Memoir Writing for Older Adults With Cognitive Impairment: Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults with cognitive impairment often face significant challenges in memoir writing, including memory fragmentation, emotional loneliness, and speech and language disorders. Although AI-generated content (AIGC) technologies such as GPT-3.5 show potential in creative tasks, they often lack the personalization and adaptability required for users with dementia. Generic AIGC tools often fail to address the heterogeneous cognitive and emotional needs of this population. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to design and evaluate, as a proof-of-concept, a personalized AIGC-powered chatbot

Analysis of Psychiatric Symptoms and Suicide Risk Among Younger Adults in China by Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation.

IMPORTANCE: Younger adults in China who are transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) and lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) experience high levels of minority stress (eg, stigma and bullying) and adverse mental health symptoms. However, there is a lack of research documenting mental health disparities compared with their cisgender and heterosexual peers. Studies that disaggregate TGNC and LGB individuals and are conducted in nonmetropolitan regions are also needed. OBJECTIVES: To examine whether younger adult students' psychiatric symptoms and suicide risk vary by sexual orientation and gend
