Duane Retraction Syndrome is a congenital eye movement disorder characterized by a failure of cranial nerve VI to develop normally, resulting in restriction or absence of abduction, restricted adduction and narrowing of the palpebral fissure and retraction of the globe on attempted adduction. Patients with Duane Retraction Syndrome appear to have a significant increase in the number of associated congenital malformations. In the present paper, the authors report a case of Duane Retraction Syndrome with a unique hand abnormality not reported previously.

INTRODUCTION: A limbal surgical approach for strabismus surgery is often recommended for older patients, in the belief that the conjunctiva of older patients is too thin and prone to tear during surgery performed through a cul-de-sac incision. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of the cul-de-sac approach in patients more than 40 years of age.

INTRODUCTION: Monocular elevation deficiency with a tight ipsilateral inferior rectus muscle and fixation preference for the contralateral eye is a well recognized entity in strabismus. Most descriptions of the condition, however, do not document oblique muscle forced duction testing in the contralateral eye.
