Integrating systematic review and Bayesian weighting to derive a minimum dataset for soil health assessment in arid and semi-arid regions.

Soil health assessment in arid and semi-arid regions necessitates strong frameworks capable of combining a wide range of physical, chemical, and biological indicators. This study systematically analyzed 141 manuscripts to establish a Minimum Dataset of soil health indicators and to refine their relative importance through a Bayesian weighting approach. The selection methodology yielded a core collection of six physical, four chemical, and two biological indicators. Since each of the 141 studies considered reports its own subset of soil health indicators, not a common and homogeneous set shared

Equity-aware variant interpretation needs local allele frequencies and calibrated functional evidence: comment on Bianco & Planello (2025).

Equitable hereditary‑cancer genomics requires variant interpretation that performs reliably in under‑represented and admixed populations-not only in well‑sampled European cohorts. Building on Bianco and Planello (2025), this Comment outlines an equity‑by‑design workflow that couples regional allele‑frequency baselines (e.g., GenomeIndia, IndiGenomes, ABraOM) with calibrated functional evidence from saturation genome editing and related multiplex assays, implemented within updated ClinGen/ACMG‑AMP Bayesian point‑based frameworks. The pipeline defines sub‑national AF strata, quantifies AF uncert

Integrated analysis of fossils and molecular divergence time estimates a latest Jurassic origin of angiosperms.

Molecular timescales are based on the calibration of molecular evolution to geological time using fossil constraints, but conventional calibration strategies use limited and often subjectively interpreted fossil data. Here we used the Bayesian Brownian Bridge model to derive data-driven calibration densities on the basis of extensive fossil occurrence data. This approach integrates the uncertainty on extant and historical diversity to estimate clade age. We transformed the estimated ages based on >25,000 fossil occurrences into calibration densities, which we used to constrain 110 node ages in

MetaMind: A multi-agent transformer-driven framework for automated network meta-analyses.

BACKGROUND: Network meta-analysis (NMA) can compare several interventions at once by combining head-to-head and indirect trial evidence. However, identifying, extracting, and modelling these often takes months, delaying updates in many therapeutic areas. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate MetaMind, an end-to-end, transformer-driven framework that automates NMA processes-including study retrieval, structured data extraction, and meta-analysis execution-while minimizing human input. METHODS: MetaMind integrates Promptriever, a fine-tuned retrieval model, to semantically retrieve high-impact cl

Accelerated Stability Studies: A Frequentist-Bayesian Hybrid Simulation Approach Implemented in the AccelStab R Package.

Stability assessment of vaccine drug products typically requires years of data collection. Accelerated stability studies offer a practical alternative by leveraging high-temperature data collected over shorter time periods. We model degradation using arbitrary nth order kinetics and derive a closed-form solution that enables extrapolation across time and temperature. We compare interval estimation methods including the delta method, bootstrap resampling, and Bayesian inference and propose a frequentist-Bayesian hybrid (FBH) posterior approximation framework based on a multivariate Student's t-

Evaluation of the high-quality development of graduate education in mining engineering based on ISM and Bayesian networks.

The quality of graduate education in mining engineering is important for safeguarding national energy security and supporting the green and intelligent transformation of the mining industry. This study developed an evaluation system comprising five criterion-level dimensions, 12 sub-criteria, and 26 indicators. Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) was used to identify the hierarchical relationships among the indicators, and an expert-informed Bayesian network was subsequently established for probabilistic evaluation. The results showed that the target node had a positive-state probability of

Identification of effective vibration parameters for enhancing bone response in small rodents: A systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis.

Low-intensity vibration (LIV) is a non-invasive mechanical stimulus capable of regulating skeletal adaptation and bone remodeling cellular signaling pathways. Despite growing interest in LIV, substantial methodological heterogeneity persists in the experimental vibration parameters. This study sought to synthesize the effects of different LIV frequencies and intensities on bone volume fraction (BV/TV) in small rodent models. We performed a systematic review searching for publications in English on PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Embase databases. Two independent investigators followed incl

Cognitive bias modification in alcohol use disorder and problematic drinking: A revised and updated IPD Bayesian meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Recent advances in Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM) for problematic drinking, including Alcohol Use Disorder, alongside methodological refinements, warrant an update of the Individual Participant Data (IPD) Bayesian meta-analysis. This study integrates new datasets, focuses on alcohol CBM, and applies a two-stage IPD framework to examine CBM's effects on cognitive bias, alcohol consumption, and relapse. METHODS: A two-stage IPD Bayesian meta-analysis was performed, supplemented by frequentist sensitivity analyses. The first stage estimated study-specific CBM effects, the second s

Tissue stress measurements with Bayesian inversion stress microscopy.

Cells within biological tissue are constantly subjected to dynamic mechanical forces. Measuring the internal stress of tissues has proven crucial for our understanding of the role of mechanical forces in fundamental biological processes like morphogenesis, collective migration, cell division or cell elimination and death. Previously, we have introduced Bayesian inversion stress microscopy (BISM), which is relying on measuring cell-generated traction forces in vitro and has proven particularly useful to measure absolute stresses in confined cell monolayers. We further demonstrate the applicabil

A Bayesian functional concurrent zero-inflated Dirichlet-multinomial regression model with application to infant microbiome.

The infant microbiome undergoes rapid changes in composition over time and is associated with long-term risks of conditions such as immune strength, allergy, asthma, and other health outcomes. Modeling the associations between exposures or treatments and microbial composition over time is essential for understanding the factors that drive these changes. Estimating these temporal dynamics has several challenges including repeated measures, overdispersion, compositionality, high-dimensional parameter spaces, and zero-inflation. Many longitudinal regression models used in human microbiome researc

Land Finance and fiscal rules: An estimated DSGE model for Hong Kong.

This study systematically analyzes the choice of fiscal rules under Hong Kong's land finance pattern and their macroeconomic implications for the first time through DSGE methods. Using quarterly data from 2000 Q1 to 2023 Q4, we employs Bayesian estimation and simulation to compare the effects of three fiscal rules: the fully exogenous rule, the output-responsive rule, and the debt-responsive rule. Results indicate that the debt-responsive rule delivers optimal outcomes in stabilizing consumption, investment, and labor markets. It effectively curbs pressures from rising government debt and prop

Clinical Surveillance Technologies in Nonintensive Care Unit Hospital Settings: Systematic Review and Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials.

BACKGROUND: Failure to recognize clinical deterioration in hospitalized patients has prompted the development of rule-based electronic surveillance (RB-ES), predictive model-based electronic surveillance (PM-ES), and continuous physiologic monitoring (CPM). However, their comparative effects on patient-centered outcomes remain uncertain. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to compare the clinical effects of emergent intensive RB-ES, PM-ES, CPM, and local standard care in nonintensive care unit hospital settings. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase via online, the Cochrane Central Register of

Bayesian inference on fermentation kinetics: Comparative analysis with frequentist approach.

This study explores the application of Bayesian inference to fermentation kinetic modeling, focusing on two representative batch systems: glycerol-glucose co-fermentation for 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) production and dark fermentation for biohydrogen production. Modified hyperbolic secant functions were implemented to model metabolite concentrations obtained from above-noted experiments. Then, the performance of a Bayesian hierarchical model to that of frequentist nonlinear least squares fitting was compared. The results indicate that while the frequentist approach demonstrates high computation

An updated estimate of the proportion of neurocysticercosis among people with epileptic seizures: a systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is an infection of the central nervous system caused by the larval stage of Taenia solium. This systematic review (PROSPERO identifier: CRD42021266596) aimed to estimate the pooled proportion of NCC among people with epileptic seizures (PWES) between 1990 and 2023, and to assess whether this proportion changed between January 1990 to May 2008 and June 2008 to May 2023 across endemic regions. METHODS: Twenty electronic databases were searched in May 2023 for records on NCC published between January 1, 1990, and May 9, 2023. Two reviewers independently scree

Mining Stored-Specimen Studies for Information about Cancer Natural History.

The advent of new multicancer early detection tests and publication of early diagnostic results have generated expectations of clinical benefit from multicancer screening. The clinical benefit of a cancer screening test depends critically on disease natural history, which is typically learned from prospective screening studies. Retrospective studies of stored blood specimens are important in learning about a test's preclinical diagnostic performance but have rarely been used to infer natural history. The extent to which these studies might be harnessed to also learn natural history is discusse

Bayesian parameter inference and uncertainty-informed sensitivity analysis in a 0D cardiovascular model for intraoperative hypotension.

Computational cardiovascular models are promising tools for clinical decision support, particularly in complex conditions, such as intraoperative hypotension (IOH). IOH arises from different mechanisms, making treatment selection non-trivial. Patient-specific predictions require calibration, typically performed using classical optimization prone to parameter non-identifiability and lacking uncertainty quantification, hindering clinical translation. Consequently, Bayesian approaches are needed that facilitate parameter inference, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty quantification in cardiovas

Multichannel machine learning for polysomnographic diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea: a Bayesian meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 1 billion people globally, yet over 80% remain undiagnosed. The gold standard for diagnosis, overnight polysomnography, is highly accurate but labor-intensive, leading to delays and increased healthcare burden. Artificial intelligence (AI) models offer a promising alternative. This study pools existing evidence to evaluate AI-based OSA diagnostics. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore identified studies comparing AI models against the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) for OSA diagnosis. Studies evalu

A Multi-Fish Tracking and Behavior Modeling Framework for High-Density Cage Aquaculture.

Multi-fish tracking and behavior analysis in deep-sea cages face two critical challenges: first, the homogeneity of fish appearance and low image quality render appearance-based association unreliable; second, standard linear motion models fail to capture the complex, nonlinear swimming patterns (e.g., turning) of fish, leading to frequent identity switches and fragmented trajectories. To address these challenges, we propose SOD-SORT, which integrates a Constant Turn-Rate and Velocity (CTRV) motion model within an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) framework into DeepOCSORT, a recent observation-cen

Long-Term and Regional-Scale Data Reveal Divergent Trends of Different Climate Variables on Fish Body Size Over 75 Years.

Across many ecto- and endothermic organisms, climate change has induced a general shift towards smaller body sizes. Several existing hypotheses (e.g., Temperature Size Rule-TSR, metabolic theory) contribute to our understanding of climate-driven changes in body size. However, empirical support for climate-induced reductions in body size is mixed with some species growing larger under warmer temperatures, and underlying mechanisms are under debate. To address these inconsistencies, we used Bayesian hierarchical modeling to determine if mean length-at-age (proxy for growth) changed from 1945 to
