Description of a novel murine model for ileocystoplasty and early histologic changes.

There is concern that bladder augmentation with bowel segments predisposes toward the development of carcinoma. Additionally, patients with neurogenic bladder and bladder cancer often present with advanced stage and have poor survival. Cellular hyperproliferation at the urointestinal junction (UIJ) has been implicated in this scenario. We aimed to develop a reproducible murine model of ileocystoplasty (ICP). We also performed preliminary analysis of any early histologic changes with focus on cellular proliferation at the UIJ. Fifteen 6- to 8-week-old female C57BL/6 mice underwent ICP, where a

Management of traumatic urethral rupture in 11 cats using primary alignment with a urethral catheter.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the management of traumatic urethral ruptures using a systematic attempt at urethral catheterisation. METHODS: Eleven cats that had been diagnosed with a traumatic urethral rupture over a five-year period were included in this study. Rupture was assessed by positive-contrast retrograde urethrography. An attempt was made to manage these ruptures by placing an indwelling urethral catheter. RESULTS: The placement of an indwelling urethral catheter, could be performed in 10 out of 11 cats, which indicated a partial rupture. In one cat, catheterisation was not possible becaus

Intra-operative electron radiotherapy as a conservative treatment for infiltrating bladder cancer.

The intent of this feasibility study was to evaluate the use of intra-operative electron radiotherapy (IOERT), after transurethral resection (TUR), combined with external beam radiation with concurrent chemotherapy for the conservative treatment of infiltrating bladder cancer. From November 1988 to June 1998, 27 patients with histologically proven non-metastatic infiltrating bladder cancer were included in this protocol. The treatment consisted of: TUR, external beam irradiation (x18 MV:48 Grays (Gy)/24 fractions/5 weeks), with concurrent chemotherapy (cisplatin 30 mg/day for 3 days-two cycles

Use of a free bladder mucosal graft for simple repair of vesicovaginal fistulae.

The aim of this paper is to describe a simple, fast, and effective method for repair of difficult vesicovaginal fistulae by means of a free bladder mucosal graft. Six patients with high, large, multiple, or recurrent vesicovaginal fistulae were treated using a free bladder mucosal graft. Three patients underwent "early" repair (less than 3 months from time of injury) and 3 "late" repair (more than 6 months from time of injury). Via a suprapubic cystotomy, the mucosa of the fistulous tract was debrided without any attempt to excise the tract or close the bladder or vaginal defects. A free bladd

Combined excision and ablation of ampullary tumors with biliary or pancreatic intraductal extension is effective even in malignant neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: The feasibility and outcome of endoscopic resection in ampullary tumors with intraductal growth remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To assess the safety, feasibility and outcomes of these patients treated by thermal ablation. METHODS: Retrospective observational study. All consecutive patients who underwent an endoscopic snare papillectomy with a 6-month minimum follow-up were included. Ablation was performed with cystotomes and soft/forced coagulation. Successful endoscopic treatment was defined as no adenomatous residual tissue or recurrence observed at follow-up. RESULTS: Of 86 patie

Cystitis glandularis due to Escherichia coli infection in a diabetic Miniature Schnauzer: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Lower urinary tract disease is a common clinical condition in dogs, usually presenting with dysuria, pollakiuria and haematuria. Diabetes mellitus is a predisposing factor for urinary tract infection in both humans and dogs and does not necessarily present with clinical signs. In this case report, we describe for the first time a case of cystitis glandularis in a dog with diabetes mellitus, associated with Escherichia coli urinary tract infection. CASE PRESENTATION: A 12 year old 9.2-kg (20.2-lb) castrated male Miniature Schnauzer with diabetes mellitus, was referred because of co

A novel approach for urethral catheterization in dromedary camels: a preclinical study.

BACKGROUND: Urethral obstruction due to urolithiasis is an uncommon problem reported in dromedary camels. Urethral catheterization is recommended as an emergency preliminary alternative to palliative urethrostomy to preserve valuable animals for breeding purposes. This procedure is not possible in camels due to the narrow diameter of the tortuous urethra, presence of sigmoid flexure and urethral recess and unavailability of specific full-length catheter. OBJECTIVE: To assess the normograde catheterization of the camel urethra through cystotomy incision by using 6-Fr, 70 cm, PVC straight-tip u

Laparoscopic repair of vesicovaginal fistulae with a transperitoneal approach at Universitas Gadjah Mada Urological Institute: a case report.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: A vesicovaginal fistula is an abnormal fistulous tract extending between the bladder and the vagina that allows the continuous involuntary discharge of urine into the vaginal vault. In addition, the sequelae from these fistulae have a profound effect on the patients in view of their physical, psychological, and social dimensions. The treatment of vesicovaginal fistula is surgical in most cases and the choice of the repair technique is controversial. We evaluated the benefits of a laparoscopic approach in a patient with vesicovaginal fistulae. Here, we present our first experience u

The Place of Transanal Endoscopic Surgery in the Treatment of Rectourethral Fistula.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of transanal endoscopic operation (TEO) or transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) in rectourethral fistulas (RUF). RUF may appear after radical prostatectomy. Their treatment represents a challenge; many therapies have been proposed, from conservative to aggressive surgical approaches. Transanal endoscopic surgery (TEO or TEM) is a minimally invasive technique to access the site of the RUF to perform repair. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is an observational study with prospective data collection, conducted between September 2006 and December 2015. All patients wer
