OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of tricorticocancellous autologous bone grafting with intramedullary forearm nails in the treatment of radius or ulna aseptic nonunion.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors that influence residual angulation after treating pediatric distal tibial diaphyseal fractures.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 75 children under the age of ten who were treated at two referral centers for distal tibial diaphyseal fractures. The mean patient age was 6.8 ± 2.3 years, and the mean follow-up duration was 4.1 ± 1.3 years (range, 3 to 6 years). PURPOSE: To assess outcomes of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) using a locking compression plate (LCP) for 42 humeral shaft fractures. METHODS. 28 men and 14 women aged 18 to 68 (mean, 34; median, 29) years underwent closed reduction and MIPO using a LCP for type 12-A (n=26) and type 12-B (n=16) humeral shaft fractures. Eight of the patients were aged ≥ 50 years. Patients were followed up monthly until radiological union in at least 3 of the 4 cortices. Functional assessment was based on the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the clinical and long-term functional outcomes of humeral diaphyseal fractures treated with acute anterior plating in a trauma population.
DESIGN: Single-center, retrospective cohort analysis with long-term prospective follow-up.
SETTING: Urban, Level I trauma center.
PATIENTS: Ninety-six patients with high-energy fractures of the humeral shaft were treated over a 10-year period.
INTERVENTION: All patients were treated by a standard surgical protocol of open reduction through an anterior approach with small or large fragment fixation in the supine position.

We report on a distal radius shaft fracture (AO 22 A 2.1) and a fracture of the styloid process of the ulna that occurred after holding on to a slipping Cyr wheel and exposition to high pressure on the lower arm. The frequency, structure, mode of formation and significance of sealed osteons remain unsettled. Previous studies have shown that the expandable nail system (Fixion) can provide rapid stabilisation of long bone fractures with reduced operative time and low complication rates. Patients with humeral shaft fracture were treated consecutively over a two-year period in our institution with the Fixion nail. Medical records of 12 calves less than or equal to 1 month old, with fracture of the femoral diaphysis, were reviewed. Ten calves were within 1 week of birth at the time of diagnosis. Open reduction was accomplished by use of a lateral approach. Retrograde intramedullary pinning was accomplished in all calves, using 2 (n = 4 calves) or 3 (n = 8 calves) pins. The incidence of rupture of the knee ligaments was retrospectively studied in 47 patients with ipsilateral fractures of the femoral and tibial diaphyseal shaft. Fifteen patients proved to have an instability of the knee at the time of follow up. Disruption of the knee ligaments had not been recognised initially. At the time of initial treatment, injury of the knee ligaments had been diagnosed in only three cases.
