Intimate partner violence and mental health consequences in women attending family practice in Spain.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the abundant literature on the consequences of intimate partner violence (IPV) on mental health, psychological abuse has rarely been considered, and the separate effects of the different types of IPV have been understudied. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between physical, psychological, and sexual IPV and women's mental health. METHODS: The sample included 1402 randomly selected women attending general practice in Spain. Information about IPV, use of psychoactive drugs, psychological distress (measured with the 12-item General Health Questionnaire), an

Differences in health values among patients, family members, and providers for outcomes in schizophrenia.

OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study were to determine whether there are important differences in how patients, family members, and health care providers (HCPs) value health outcomes in schizophrenia and to assess the degree to which such differences, if they exist, could adversely affect clinical and policy decision making. METHODS: Participants viewed videotaped depictions of simulated patients with mild and moderate symptoms of schizophrenia, with and without a common adverse drug effect (pseudoparkinsonism), and then provided standard gamble and visual analog scale ratings of desirabil

Agricultural injuries among older Kentucky farmers: The Farm Family Health and Hazard Surveillance Study.

This population-based study reports the cumulative incidence of agricultural injuries during a 1-year period in a sample of 998 farmers aged 55 years and older living in Kentucky. A total of 98 farm-related injuries were reported among 88 older farmers for a crude injury rate of 9.03 injured farmers per 100 farmers (95% confidence interval (CI) = 7.03-11.03) over a 1-year period. The leading external causes of farm injury were falls (24.9%), machinery (22.5%), wood-cutting (14.6%), and animal-related events (14.3%). Farmers working on farms with beef cattle (alone) (odds ratio = 1.90; 95% CI =

Maternal-child health and family planning: user perspectives and service constraints in rural Bangladesh.

This article presents a microanalysis of interactions between female fieldworkers and women in rural Bangladesh, and a discussion of the broader organizational constraints that hamper service delivery. It is argued that the fieldworker, herself a rural woman, is faced with considerable demand for both maternal-child health (MCH) and reproductive health care services, but that operational constraints prevent her from realizing her potential in both of these areas. Qualitative data show that, in the eyes of rural women, contraceptive use and health care are intricately intertwined, and that this

The Effects of Family Sports on Mental Health in Children and Adolescents: A Meta-Analysis.

Objective: To systematically review the effects of family-based physical activity interventions on the mental health of children and adolescents and identify potential moderators. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched PubMed, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, Elsevier, Web of Science, Cochrane, and three major Chinese databases for randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled trials on family-based physical activity interventions targeting mental health in children and adolescents aged 5-19 years. Searches were conducted through 10 February 2026. Two reviewers independently scr

Familial health behavioral change in the context of adult treatment with obesity medications.

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is a serious public health crisis in the United States, affecting millions of children annually and is associated with significant, long-term physical and psychological consequences. Family-based behavioral interventions have been shown to be effective in improving obesity-related outcomes in pediatric populations. However, there is limited insight into how adult participation in medical weight management programs may impact household health behaviors. This study explores parent perception of the impact of participation in weight management programs on child healt

Support for Recovery in Mental Health: A Delphi Study From the Family's Perspective.

Mental health services are increasingly adopting a recovery-oriented approach that prioritises human rights and user empowerment. In this evolving landscape, family members, who are often the primary support network for mental health service users, face unique challenges in assisting a person's recovery. This study aims to establish an international consensus on supportive actions for the recovery process and to identify key facilitators and obstacles to providing support from the perspective of families of mental health service users. Methodological rigour was ensured by following the CREDES

Is there an association between family structure and the oral health of socially vulnerable children?

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the family structure on the oral health status of socially vulnerable children in the Federal District of Brazil. A total of 471 schoolchildren with a mean age of 8.12 (± 0.90) years were examined for dental caries using the CAST instrument. Dental biofilm and oral pain were also registered. Children's guardians were interviewed about socioeconomic variables and oral hygiene habits. The association between oral pain in the previous 30 days and the child's maximum CAST score were analyzed using the Pearson chi-squared test. Multivariate Poisso

Computerised health interventions targeting Australian veterans and their families: A scoping review.

ISSUE ADDRESSED: Australian veterans suffer higher rates of both mental and physical health conditions than civilians, yet many do not seek treatment. Computerised Interventions (CIs) may provide an alternative approach to management, which can overcome some barriers to treatment uptake. We aim to evaluate the scope and quality of CIs designed specifically for Australian veterans and their families. METHODS: A manual search of the Department of Veterans' Affairs and other Ex-service organisation websites was performed to map and describe CIs for Australian veterans and their families, followe

Hunger in Vulnerable Families in Southeastern Europe: Associations With Mental Health and Violence.

Background: Hunger can influence healthy development of children and has been shown to be associated with other determinants of child health, such as violence within the family and maternal (mental) health problems. Whilst the majority of research has been conducted in high-income countries with vulnerable populations, less is known about the circumstances in low-and-middle-income countries. This study explored the experience of hunger in vulnerable families in three Southeastern European countries, and simultaneously examined relationships with four sets of risk factors-lack of financial, men

The Provision of Health Care by Family Physicians in Taiwan as Illustrated With Population Pyramids.

Family physicians serve as personal doctors for individuals and their families and also act as gatekeepers of the health care system. If no special status is accorded to family physicians, however, then the rates at which health care recipients utilize their service might be affected. In the present cross-sectional study, representative claims data sets for 2010 from Taiwan's National Health Insurance program, a health care system in which beneficiaries are not required to register with a family physician, were used to investigate the provision of health care to the population by family physic

Importance of genetic testing in global health during the evaluation of familial microcephaly.

A focused genetic workup is useful in determining the cause of familial microcephaly, especially in the setting of mildly different phenotypes. As illustrated by this case from an impoverished international urban location, one must not assume the etiology for the apparent familial microcephaly is the same for all affected members.

INTRODUCTION: Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder. However, little information is available concerning the way each patient learns about the existence of Huntington's disease in his family and the way he transmits the information to his descendants. This study aims to specify the role of families and healthcare professionals in delivering information about the disease and its hereditary risk. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data from 105 consecutive patients were analyzed. The patients were categorized in four classes according to the way they received informat
