Association of organophosphorus pesticides and glyphosate exposure with nasal flora and total IgE in solar greenhouse workers: A unique farmer group.

Studies have shown that the presence of allergens, including insecticides, significantly increases the risk of occupational allergic diseases among solar greenhouse workers. However, no studies have investigated the relationship between organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) used by solar greenhouse workers and allergic diseases, and the role of nasal flora in this context remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between combined exposure to organophosphorus pesticides and glyphosate (GLY) with changes in total immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, as well as to analyze

Involvement of mitochondrial fission in renal tubular pyroptosis in mice exposed to high and environmental levels of glyphosate combined with hard water.

Chronic interstitial nephritis in agricultural communities (CINAC) has reached epidemic proportions. The combination of glyphosate and hard water has been postulated to play a potent aetiological role in CINAC. Therefore, dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1)-mediated aberrant mitochondrial fission and subsequent activation of the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor protein 3 (Nlrp3)/caspase1 pathway may be involved in the pathogenesis of nephropathy. In the present study, mice were sub-chronically exposed to high doses and environmental levels of glyphosate (100 mg/kg bod

Physiological effects of the interaction between Nosema ceranae and sequential and overlapping exposure to glyphosate and difenoconazole in the honey bee Apis mellifera.

Pathogens and pollutants, such as pesticides, are potential stressors to all living organisms, including honey bees. Herbicides and fungicides are among the most prevalent pesticides in beehive matrices, and their interaction with Nosema ceranae is not well understood. In this study, the interactions between N. ceranae, the herbicide glyphosate and the fungicide difenoconazole were studied under combined sequential and overlapping exposure to the pesticides at a concentration of 0.1 µg/L in food. In the sequential exposure experiment, newly emerged bees were exposed to the herbicide from day 3

Genetic variation in Dip5, an amino acid permease, and Pdr5, a multiple drug transporter, regulates glyphosate resistance in S. cerevisiae.

S. cerevisiae from different environments are subject to a wide range of selective pressures, whether intentional or by happenstance. Chemicals classified by their application, such as herbicides, fungicides and antibiotics, can affect non-target organisms. First marketed as RoundUp™, glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide. In plants, glyphosate inhibits EPSPS, of the shikimate pathway, which is present in many organisms but lacking in mammals. The shikimate pathway produces chorismate which is the precursor to all the aromatic amino acids, para-aminobenzoic acid, and Coenzyme Q10. Crops

Hormesis of glyphosate on ferulic acid metabolism and antifungal volatile production in rice root biocontrol endophyte Burkholderia cepacia LS-044.

Glyphosate (GP, N-phosphonomethyl glycine) is one of the most popular organophosphate herbicides widely used in agricultural practices worldwide. There have been extensive reports on the biohazard attributes and hormetic impacts of GP on plant and animal systems. However, the effects of GP on plant growth-promoting microbes and its ecological relevance remain unknown. Here, we show that GP does exert a hormetic impact on Burkholderia cepacia LS-044, a rice (Oryza sativa ssp. japonica cv. Tainung 71) root endophytic isolate. We used increasing doses of ferulic acid (FA, 1-25 mM) and GP (0.5-5 m

Perinatal exposure to a glyphosate-based herbicide impairs female reproductive outcomes and induces second-generation adverse effects in Wistar rats.

Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) are the most globally used herbicides raising the risk of environmental exposition. Here, we investigated whether perinatal exposure to low doses of a GBH alters the female reproductive performance, and/or induced second-generation effects related to congenital anomalies or growth alterations. Pregnant rats (F0) received a GBH through food, in a dose of 2 mg (GBH-LD: GBH-low dose group) or 200 mg (GBH-HD: GBH-high dose group) of glyphosate/kg bw/day from gestational day (GD) 9 until weaning. Body weight gain and vaginal canal-opening of F1 females were record

Removal of Glyphosate from Water by Adsorption Using the Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework ZIF-8: Characterization of Equilibrium Isotherms and Adsorption Kinetics.

Glyphosate, an anionic organophosphorus herbicide, is frequently detected in surface waters alongside other emerging contaminants (ECs). Effective removal strategies are essential to reduce their environmental impact. This study synthesized a metal organic framework (MOF) called Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8), a material recently recognized for its exceptional versatility, and employed it for the removal of glyphosate from aqueous systems via adsorption. ZIF-8 particles were synthesized using zinc nitrate hexahydrate as the metal source, 2-methylimidazole as the ligand, and methanol

Stenotrophomonas pavanii MY01 induces phosphate precipitation of Cu(II) and Zn(II) by degrading glyphosate: performance, pathway and possible genes involved.

Microbial bioremediation is an advanced technique for removing herbicides and heavy metals from agricultural soil. In this study, the strain Stenotrophomonas pavanii MY01 was used for its ability to degrade glyphosate, a phosphorus-containing organic compound, producing PO4 3- as a byproduct. PO4 3- is known to form stable precipitates with heavy metals, indicating that strain MY01 could potentially remove heavy metals by degrading glyphosate. Therefore, the present experiment induced phosphate precipitation from Cu(II) (Hereinafter referred to as Cu2+) and Zn(II) (Hereinafter referred to as Z

Slow release of attapulgite based nano-enabled glyphosate improves soil phosphatase activity, organic P-pool and proliferation of dominant bacterial community.

Glyphosate (Glp) was encapsulated onto the dopamine-modified attapulgite to develop an attapulgite-based nano-enabled Glp (DGlp) in this study with comparable weed control effects to pure Glp and commercial Glp solutions. Within 24 hours, the active Glp molecule was slowly released from DGlp at a maximum remaining rate of over 90%, and then degraded similarly to Glp solution in soil. The addition of DGlp improved soil available phosphorus (P) contents, phosphatase activity, and enzyme extractable P fraction. However, compared to Glp solution, DGlp addition had no effect on the transformation o

Glyphosate induces lymphocyte cell dysfunction and apoptosis via regulation of miR-203 targeting of PIK3R1 in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.).

Glyphosate is a widely used pesticide worldwide. The problem surrounding glyphosate is worth investigating, especially with its increased use, and an increasing number of studies have found that the toxic effect of glyphosate is objective. MiR-203 was seldom found in fish diseases or glyphosate researches. This article aims to explore the effect of miR-203 on carp lymphocytes during glyphosate exposure. Therefore, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) and flow cytometry were carried out to evaluate apoptosis, and we also detected CYPs (CYP1A1, CYP1B1, CYP1C), cytokine secretion (IL-1β, IL-8

A glyphosate-based herbicide induces sub-lethal effects in early life stages and liver cell line of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss.

Most pesticides used in agriculture end up in the aquatic environment through runoff and leaching of treated crops. One of the most commonly used herbicides is glyphosate. This compound or its metabolites are frequently detected in surface water in Europe. In the present study, in vivo and in vitro studies were carried out using the early life stages of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and the cell line RTL-W1 (a liver cell line from rainbow trout) to characterize the toxic effects of glyphosate at environmentally-realistic concentrations. Both studies were performed using the commercial fo

Efficient fluorescence resonance energy transfer between oppositely charged CdTe quantum dots and gold nanoparticles for turn-on fluorescence detection of glyphosate.

We designed a turn-on fluorescence assay for glyphosate based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between negatively charged CdTe quantum dots capped with thioglycolic acid (TGA-CdTe-QDs) and positively charged gold nanoparticles stabilized with cysteamine (CS-AuNPs). Oppositely charged TGA-CdTe-QDs and CS-AuNPs can form FRET donor-acceptor assemblies due to electrostatic interactions, which effectively quench the fluorescence intensity of TGA-CdTe-QDs. The presence of glyphosate could induce the aggregation of CS-AuNPs through electrostatic interactions, resulting in the fluo

Assessment of cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of glyphosate-based herbicide on glioblastoma cell lines: Role of p53 in cellular response and network analysis.

Glyphosate, the world's most widely used herbicide, has a low toxicity rating despite substantial evidence of adverse health effects. Furthermore, glyphosate-based formulations (GBFs) contain several other chemicals, some of which are known to be harmful. Additionally, chronic, and acute exposure to GBFs among rural workers may lead to health impairments, such as neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. P53 is known as a tumor suppressor protein, acting as a key regulator of the cellular response to stress and DNA damage. Therefore, mutations in the TP53 gene, which encodes p53, are common genet
