OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the alveolar bone thickness and root length changes of anterior teeth with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
METHODS: CBCT scans were taken for 12 skeletal Class III patients who accepted the improved corticotomy (IC) procedures during pre-surgical orthodontics. The CBCT data in T1 (the maxillary dental arch was aligned and leveled) and T2 (extraction space closure) were superimposed and the alveolar bone thickness at root apex level and root length measurements were done.
RESULTS: From T1 to T2, the buccal alveolar bone thickness for the upper lateral incisors inc

A multidisciplinary approach is generally required in the treatment of patients who present with missing and malpositioned teeth to achieve an esthetic and functional outcome. Treatment of a patient with congenitally transposed canines, missing central incisors, and peg-shaped lateral incisors using a multidisciplinary approach is presented.

OBJECTIVE: To compare, through computed tomography, alveolar bone thickness changes at the maxillary incisors area during orthodontic treatment with and without tooth extraction.
METHODS: Twelve patients were evaluated. They were divided into 2 groups: G1--6 patients treated with extraction of right and left maxillary first premolars, with mean initial age of 15.83 years and mean treatment length of 2.53 years; G2--6 patients treated without extraction, with mean initial age of 18.26 years and mean treatment length of 2.39 years. Computed tomographies, lateral cephalograms and periapical radi

Wide alveolar clefts are challenging to treat and are often associated with a higher chance of failure requiring repeated bone grafts. Even if successful, an excessively large cleft leads to a wide edentulous space, and patients are faced with prolonged orthodontic treatment. We present a series of large alveolar clefts closed with the aid of segmental maxillary osteotomies. Cases of alveolar clefts treated by segmental maxillary osteotomy from 2014 to 2016 were reviewed. Preoperative and postoperative computed tomography scans were analyzed to assess the alveolar gap and bone filling. Demogra

INTRODUCTION: Histologic studies of teeth from animal models of revascularization/revitalization are available; however, specimens from human studies are lacking. The nature of tissues formed in the canal of human revascularized/revitalized teeth was not well established.
METHODS: An immature mandibular premolar with infected necrotic pulp and a chronic apical abscess was treated with revascularization/revitalization procedures. At both the 18-month and 2-year follow-up visits, radiographic examination showed complete resolution of the periapical lesion, narrowing of the root apex without roo

RATIONALE: Midline diastema is an unpleasant condition that affects a patient's smile and causes significant aesthetic concerns. Treating diastema and achieving the desired aesthetics, function, and harmony can be challenging without invasive treatment. This case report demonstrates a minimally invasive approach to closing a lower midline diastema.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 38-year-old female patient presented to the dental clinic at King Khalid University with the primary complaint of a "large space in the lower front tooth region." Her medical history indicated no significant health concerns.

AIM: This study aimed to overview and collect the current trends and techniques in managing maxillary impacted canines by retrieving recent literature, in a chronological manner from the prevention to the very late stages of treatment in adults.
BACKGROUND: We performed a review on the recent literature regarding the current trends on the management of impacted canines. We have researched various types of available articles such as clinical trials and case presentations, meta- and systematic analyses, and literature reviews focusing on clinical management of impacted canines and their outcome

OBJECTIVES: The goal of this study was to analyze skeletal, dental, and soft tissue changes of patients treated with customized lingual systems and to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of miniscrew anchorage.
METHODS: Nine upper first premolar extraction patients who were treated with customized lingual appliances were included in this study. Miniscrews were used for reinforcement of molar anchorage. Cephalometric films and study models were obtained before treatment (T1), after alignment (T2), and after treatment (T3). Treatment effects were analyzed by cephalometric radiographs and study

Enhanced aesthetic objectives can be achieved with precision and predictability due to recent advances in restorative materials and procedures. Although these developments have expanded the therapeutic options available to practitioners and their patients, anterior hard and soft tissue deformities in the aesthetic zone continue to represent a significant technical challenge to the reconstructive team. The objective of this article is to present diagnostic and prognostic criteria that emphasize the osseous-gingival relationship as a means to achieve predictable aesthetic results in the anterior

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of orthodontic treatment on the pulpal and periodontal condition of 91 transplanted immature third molars. In patients with atrophy of the alveolar process or unfavorable root morphology, transplants had to be placed in extreme rotated or infraoccluded positions. After 3 to 6 months, these transplants were derotated (45 degrees to 90 degrees) to a correct position in the dental arch (derotation group; n = 28) or extruded to the occlusal plane (extrusion group; n = 21). Finally, approximal spaces were closed in both groups. A sample of 42 tra

INTRODUCTION: Dental trauma and congenital anodontia are common causes of anodontia in the anterior maxilla. The proposed restorative treatment constitutes a challenge for many dentists, particularly if it is a question of a young patient who has not yet completed skeletal and dental development. Current treatments for anterior maxillary anodontia include: fixed or removable partial dentures; orthodontic closure of interdental spaces; and dental implants. Dental implants do not move with the dento-alveolar complex during the growth period of the maxilla. Therefore, many researchers maintain th

BACKGROUND: Bone height assessment alone is frequently used to guide rehabilitation choice, without consideration for soft tissues or adjacent teeth. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different preoperative cleft assessments on implant success and patient satisfaction.
METHODS: The study involved a retrospective assessment of records from 40 patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP). The alveolar cleft score (ACS; clinical criteria), interdental alveolar bone height (IABH) score (radiological criteria), patient compliance score (dental hygiene, medical visit observance, and smoking),

OBJECTIVES: To assess, by means of a systematic review, the scientific evidence of the influence of 0.018-inch or 0.022-inch bracket slots on treatment time, efficiency of space closure, efficiency of alignment, quality of orthodontic finishing, level of discomfort, and level of root resorption.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PubMed, Bireme, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Open Grey, and Google Scholar databases were searched, with no date and language restrictions, for randomized clinical trials and controlled clinical trials, using controlled terms related to bracket slots. After the selection

BACKGROUND: This case report describes our therapeutic approach taken in a girl with eruption disturbance of the upper anterior teeth. Two supernumerary teeth were involved, which required a combination of orthodontic and surgical treatment.
DIAGNOSIS: The initial situation in the upper anterior segment was characterized by two supernumerary mesial incisors, ectopic eruption of the distally located lateral incisors, and crowded tooth buds in the canine areas. Key decisions had to be made as to whether any teeth needed to be extracted and, if so, regarding the timing and sites of extraction. R
