A comparative study of three treatment modalities, pharmacologic, occlusal appliance, and their combined use, was conducted to test their therapeutic efficacy on 61 temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients. Fifty-three subjects were examined for mandibular asymmetry using measurements from submental-vertex and frontal cephalograms. All subjects displayed malocclusions and were examined for sensitivity of the muscles of mastication to palpation. In an area of endemic goiter 304 patients with an increased thyroid gland were examined by palpation, sonographically and partly scintigraphically. The average age was 37 (12-78) years, the average age of the patients with nodular changes of the thyroid gland 38-44 years. We report a case of fractured occipital condyle caused by minor trauma accompanied by light pain on palpation at the lateral cervical trigonum. A 15-year-old boy complained of nuchal pain, particularly pain on palpation at the left lateral cervical trigonum in the absence of neurologic deficits after head deceleration trauma. Computed tomography demonstrated a unilateral nonluxated fracture of the occipital condyle.
