Only five cases of osteomyelitis of the mandible as a result of sickle disease have been published. We report another case, which uniquely affected not only the osseous portion of the mandible, including the condyle, but also the adjacent musculature. Radical resection of the involved hard and soft tissue was necessary to cure the patient. Two possible etiologies are discussed. The first states that the sickle cell crisis caused a tissue anoxia in which this tissue became secondarily infected; the second states that the preexisting infection triggered or augmented the sickling phenomena.

AIM: The present study aimed at comparing clinical, radiographical, and histological findings in chronic periapical lesions such as cysts, granuloma, and abscess.
METHODOLOGY: The present study was conducted on 148 teeth having chronic inflammatory periapical lesions with or without nonsurgical endodontic treatment. Endodontic surgery was performed by single trained endodontist. After surgical endodontic treatment, biopsy sections of teeth were assessed histologically. Dens evaginatus is a dental anomaly found predominantly in people of Mongoloid origin. Dentists practising in Western countries should also be aware of this condition because of the increasing migration of people from Asia. Supernumerary premolars are uncommon but may be found incidentally during radiographic examination of teeth with dens evaginatus. This article reports 2 cases of concomitant occurrence of supernumerary premolars and dens evaginatus. The presence of a supernumerary premolar in 1 quadrant is an indication for radiographic examination of all other premolar regions.

We present 2 patients with prior lumpectomy, axillary node dissection and radiation therapy for treatment of breast cancer, who subsequently developed arm and chest cellulitis associated with an oral infection (gingivitis with bacteremia in one patient, and dental abscess in another). Our findings suggest that hematogeneous seeding of the compromised extremity and/or breast from the oral cavity should be considered as a possible cause of cellulitis in breast cancer patients.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence of acute periapical abscesses (PAs) in obese patients.
METHODS: Integrated data of hospital patients was used. Data from the corresponding diagnosis codes for obesity and PAs was retrieved by identifying the appropriate ICD 10 codes in the database.

Von Willebrand's disease has been established as the most common hereditary hemorrhagic disease. Endodontic treatment, when possible, rather than extraction is the treatment of choice in patients suffering from such a disease. A case is presented in which, during regular endodontic treatment, uncontrollable bleeding occurred, suggestive of a generalized bleeding disorder. A thorough hematologic examination revealed von Willebrand's disease, which the patient was not aware of. The dental surgeon can play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of such patients.
