BACKGROUND: Dysmenorrhea, or painful menstruation, is a common condition among women of reproductive age, significantly hindering their ability to work and participate in social, family, and sports activities. In Egypt, there is limited data on the frequency of dysmenorrhea among working women and its impact on their productivity. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dysmenorrhea among working women, its determinants, and its effect on their work productivity and activity impairment.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 548 working women aged 20 to 45 year

To evaluate the (cost-)effectiveness of a physiotherapist-led, multimodal vocational intervention compared to usual care in adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) experiencing reduced work ability. (Self-)employed people with RA or axSpA and reduced work ability were randomized to a 12-month vocational intervention or usual care. Assessments were conducted at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months. Primary outcome was the Work Ability index Single-item Scale (WAS) at 12 months. Secondary outcomes included additional work-related and clinical outcomes. Cost-effectivenes

BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) is a chronic inflammatory condition with significant patient morbidity and associated healthcare costs. While the economic burden of CRS overall has been previously described, the economic impact of CRSwNP has received less attention. Patients with CRSwNP have higher disease burden and healthcare resource utilization than those with CRS without nasal polyposis. Rapid evolution of medical management in recent years with the use of targeted biologics warrants further investigation into the economic burden of CRSwNP.

Alcohol hangover is a cause of considerable social and economic burden. Identification of predictors of alcohol hangover severity have the potential to contribute to reductions in costs associated with both absenteeism/presenteeism and health care. Pain catastrophising (PC) is the tendency to ruminate and describe a pain experience in more exaggerated terms. The current study examines the possibility that this cognitive coping strategy may influence experience of alcohol hangover. The aims of the current study were to (1) examine the relationship between hangover severity and PC, (2) explore a

OBJECTIVE: Comorbidities add to the burden of disease and its complexity, and may prevent the achievement of treat-to-target goals. The objective of this study was to study the relationship between comorbidities and key disease outcomes in spondyloarthritis (SpA), namely function, work ability, and quality of life.
METHODS: Patients from the multinational (22 countries), cross-sectional Assessment in SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) Comorbidities in Spondyloarthritis study were included in the analysis, provided they fulfilled the ASAS criteria. Data on comorbidities based on bo

BACKGROUND: To understand the impact of yet undiagnosed non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) on work outcomes in a cohort of patients with long-lasting chronic low back pain (CLBP).
METHODS: Data were used from a primary care CLBP cohort that was established to understand the prevalence of nr-axSpA and AS. Clinical characteristics comprised measures of back pain (visual analogue scale), inflammation (C-reactive protein) and physical functioning (Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ)). Worker outcomes comprised a question on employment and

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a self-management intervention (including an eHealth module), compared with usual care, in employees with chronic non-specific complaints of the arm, neck or shoulder (persisting >3 months).
METHODS: Participants were randomised into the self-management group (SG) or usual care group (UCG). The SG participated in 6 self-management sessions and could use an eHealth module; the UCG could use all available usual care. The primary outcome of the study was score on the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH). Secondary outcomes in

BACKGROUND: Many people suffer from complaints of the arm, neck or shoulder (CANS). CANS causes significant work problems, including absenteeism (sickness absence), presenteeism (decreased work productivity) and, ultimately, job loss. There is a need for intervention programs for people suffering from CANS. Management of symptoms and workload, and improving the workstyle, could be important factors in the strategy to deal with CANS. The objective of this study is to evaluate the experienced problems of employees with CANS, as a first step in an intervention mapping process aimed at adaptation

BackgroundPhysical activity (PA) has been associated with reduced migraine burden, but patients with frequent or comorbid migraine often report difficulty sustaining regular activity. We examined the association between minimal PA and migraine-related outcomes, and explored whether a disease burden threshold limits PA engagement.MethodsWe analyzed data from 550 participants with migraine in the Negev Migraine Cohort in southern Israel who completed a questionnaire assessing PA (≥2 h/week), migraine-related disability (MIDAS), depressive symptoms (DASS-21), and psychosocial functioning. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the association between early menarche, lifestyle factors, screen time (TV and mobile phones) and psychological factors among girls aged 8–10 years living in West Bengal, India, with special emphasis on hormonal and psychosocial influences and an urban-rural perspective using the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) framework. METHOD: A mixed-methods cohort study of 1,200 girls (600 urban, 600 rural) was followed up over three years. Quantitative (hormone assays, anthropometrics) and qualitative (body image, screen use interviews) approaches were used t

BACKGROUND: Nocturia, the most common lower urinary tract symptom, significantly impacts individuals' physical and mental health, as well as their sleep quality. However, current research primarily focuses on the elderly, with few studies examining the professional population, particularly nurses. Given that nurses are particularly susceptible to nocturia due to frequent shift work, poor urination habits, and heavy workloads, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of nocturia among nurses and its effects on their psychosocial functions, as well as the mediating role of sleep quality.

Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a growing public health concern because of its increasing prevalence and harmful effects on physical and mental health. This disorder leads to disruptive symptoms such as daytime sleepiness and fatigue, which negatively affect vigilance, productivity, and quality of life. To investigate the impact of OSAHS severity on quality of life, productivity, and anxiety disorders in an active population. This cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2018 to June 2023 at Sahloul University Hospital among patients diagnosed with OSAHS. Excessive

BACKGROUND: Migraine, a condition affecting 12% of the population, is a prevalent cause of disability, significantly impacts individuals during their most productive working years. Several studies have established that a migraine patient's job performance is often limited by absenteeism and presenteeism. The present study aimed to investigate the impact of migraines on occupational burnout, which affects up to 40% of workers.
METHODS: A subset of participants from the Negev Migraine Cohort, including both migraine patients and non-migraine controls, were asked to complete the study questionna

INTRODUCTION: Work-related back pain has a major impact on diagnostic radiographers' clinical task performance in terms of sickness absenteeism, disability and loss of productivity due to presenteeism. However, there is limited information about the burden of work-related back pain among diagnostic radiographers in Ghana. The aim was to explore diagnostic radiographers' experiences of work-related back pain in Ghana.
METHODS: An exploratory-descriptive qualitative study using semi-structured telephone interviews was conducted. Purposive and snowball sampling techniques were used to recruit pa
