Toxicity and dosimetric analysis of non-small cell lung cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy with 4DCT and image-guided intensity modulated radiotherapy: a regional centre's experience.

INTRODUCTION: For patients receiving radiotherapy for locally advance non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the probability of experiencing severe radiation pneumonitis (RP) appears to rise with an increase in radiation received by the lungs. Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) provides the ability to reduce planned doses to healthy organs at risk (OAR) and can potentially reduce treatment-related side effects. This study reports toxicity outcomes and provides a dosimetric comparison with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT). METHODS: Thirty curative NSCLC patients received radi

Comparison of Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy and Fixed-Field Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy for Canine Prostatic Carcinoma Using a 4.3 Gy × 10-Fraction Protocol: A Dosimetric Planning Study.

Advancements in radiotherapy, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), have reduced radiation-induced toxicities, enabling hypofractionated protocols to be feasible for treating intrapelvic tumours in dogs. This study aimed to determine the optimal planning technique for canine prostatic carcinoma using a radiotherapy protocol delivering 43 Gy in 10 fractions. Four techniques were compared-two full arcs (2FA), two partial arcs (2PA), 9-field IMRT (9F) and 7-field IMRT (7F). Computed tomography datasets from 22 dogs were analysed. While

4D robust evaluation for the intensity-modulated-proton-radiotherapy plans for patients with ventricular tachycardia based on cardiopulmonary motion characteristics.

BACKGROUND: Clinical trials and case reports have demonstrated that radiotherapy effectively reduces the frequency of ventricular tachycardia (VT) events. Given the sensitive anatomy of the treatment target, it is important to minimize the normal tissue dose while optimizing the target dose. This retrospective study investigated the optimal treatment planning strategy utilizing proton beams for VT patients to mitigate the effect of both cardiac and respiratory motion. METHODS: Twelve patients with respiratory-related 4DCT data and six patients with cardiac 4DCT data were enrolled in this stud

Comparison of small bowel and bladder doses between prone and supine positions in preoperative intensity-modulated radiotherapy for rectal cancer.

Evidence supporting the benefit of the prone position (PP) over the supine position (SP) in preoperative intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for locally advanced rectal cancer remains limited. Furthermore, criteria available at simulation for selecting patients likely to benefit from PP are lacking. This study assessed the dosimetric impact of PP versus SP on the small bowel and bladder and explored factors associated with PP-related dose sparing to identify patients likely to benefit. We retrospectively analyzed simulation CT scans in both PP and SP from consecutive rectal cancer patients

Prioritizing sufficient dose to gross tumor volume over normal tissue sparing in intensity-modulated radiotherapy treatment of T4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: In intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), priority is often given minimize dose to the critical organs at risk (OARs) to avoid potential morbid sequelae. However, in T4 NPC, dosimetric inadequacy enforced by dose constraints on OARs may significantly impact tumor control. METHODS: This was a single-institute cohort that patients diagnosed between July 2005 and December 2010 with T4 NPC treated with IMRT. All patients were re-classification according to the 7th-AJCC stage. RESULTS: Overall, the average doses such as Dmax , D1% , D2% and D1

Modified technique of submandibular gland transfer followed by intensity modulated radiotherapy to reduce xerostomia in head and neck cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: Xerostomia is one of the most common long-term adverse effects of radiotherapy for head and neck cancer patients. Contralateral submandibular gland transfer (SMG-T) before radiotherapy was shown to reduce xerostomia compared to pilocarpine. We sought to evaluate a modification of this surgery preserving the ipsilateral facial artery and vein to simplify the SMG-T. METHODS: Eighteen patients planned for head and neck intensity modulated radiotherapy to both necks were reviewed. Surgical complications were recorded. The grade of xerostomia was assessed after treatment completion. R
