[Screening and timing for the delivery of fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction of vascular origin].

The prenatal management of fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) has been a matter of perpetual evolving in obstetrics and has been the topic of numerous studies. The management of IUGR fetuses is currently available in tertiary centres using fetal heart monitoring, short term variability, or doppler investigation of the umbilical artery, ductus venosus and middle cerebral artery. The aim of the prenatal management is to detect anomalies that may predict severe fetal hypoxemia. On the other hand, any efforts should focus on the possibility to delay the time for delivery as gestat

Gambling screens: does shortening the time frame affect their psychometric properties?

Gambling screening tools such as the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS) and a DSM-IV Screen for Gambling Problems (NODS) developed by the National Opinion Research Council have psychometrically validated lifetime and past-year versions. As research questions often dictate shorter time intervals, researchers have adapted the time frames of these instruments to their specific purposes without examining whether changing the time frame affects the psychometric properties. In this study, 3-month versions of SOGS and NODS were administered to a sample of 80 pathological gamblers (59 men, 21 women, me

Volume cytometry: microfluidic sensor for high-throughput screening in real time.

Regulation of cell volume was one of the earliest evolutionary demands for life and remains a universal measure of cell metabolism. Since conventional methods to measure cell volume, such as microscopy, are complex and time-consuming, cell volume has not been used as the basis for cell-based screening. We have developed a microfabricated chip that can measure the volume of small numbers of cells in real time with unprecedented resolution. The method is applicable to adherent or suspended populations of cells and membrane-bound organelles. Our prototype device can detect volume changes in a mon

Intention to be screened over time for colorectal cancer in male automotive workers.

Intention is an important construct in health promotion research, yet very little is known about whether cross-sectional correlates of intention to be screened for colorectal cancer (CRC) also predict intention over time or intention change. We used survey data from The Next Step Trial, a worksite health promotion trial, to address the following questions: (1) What is the consistency over time of intention to be screened for CRC? (2) Are the patterns and magnitude of associations between intention to be screened and the Preventive Health Model variables consistent over time? (3) What are the p

[Optimal (screening) time for detection of therapy-relevant stages of retinopathia praematurorum].

Screening tests for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) focus on the detection of children in whom the progression of ROP may require therapy. The stages needing therapy must be detected reliably and in time. The frequency of examinations should be limited to the amount needed. We tried to determine whether or not there is a specific time point that can be recommended for the first examination. From 1987 to 1991 we examined 343 children who had been premature or term babies. Only among the 178 immature children with a birth weight of < or = 1500 g were severe stages of ROP found. Of 51 children,

The post-aspirin bleeding time: a screening test for evaluating haemostatic disorders.

To evaluate the usefulness of the template bleeding time post-aspiring ingestion, this test was performed with other tests of haemostasis in 28 controls and 71 patients. The mean bleeding time (B.T.) in 24/28 true controls was 3.5 +/- 1 min (1 SD). Following the ingestion of 600 mg aspirin the B.T. was 6.3 +/- 1.4 min. Four out of 28 false 'controls' with negative bleeding histories were documented to have asymptomatic von Willebrand's disease and abnormal post-aspirin B.T. Of the 71 patients studied, 22 had initial B.T. that were abnormal (16 with classical von Willebrand's disease and six wi

Screen time and chronic neck pain in Peru: A comparative population-based cross-sectional study in the COVID-19 post-pandemic period.

BACKGROUND: Chronic neck pain (CNP) is a prevalent condition worldwide. During the COVID-19 pandemic, its prevalence increased, partly due to the rise in screen time associated with digital device use. However, two years after the pandemic, there is still a lack of epidemiological data on its current prevalence. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of CNP among adults in Peru in 2025 and assess its association with screen viewing time. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving a nationally representative sample of Peruvian individuals aged 18 years or older, whose data we

Association between excessive screen time and steatotic liver disease in adolescents: Findings from the 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

INTRODUCTION: Screen-based behaviours have brought great changes to our lifestyles over the last 50 years. There is limited data evaluating the effects of such alterations on the prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in adolescents. This study sets out to assess possible associations of excessive screen exposure with liver steatosis in a representative sample of US adolescents. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis used data derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) carried out in 2017-2018, including 731 subjects age

From furry friends to fit teens: unveiling the role of active dog breeds in shaping adolescent physical activity and screen time behaviors.

BACKGROUND: Despite the known benefits of regular physical activity (PA) for a healthy lifestyle and well-being, studies suggest that the level of PA decreases dramatically during adolescence, especially in girls as the most vulnerable group. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ownership of different active dog breeds, PA, and screen time in adolescents. METHODS: This cross-sectional study utilized data collected in 2013-2014 as part of the Analysis of Children's Development in Slovenia (ACDSi) study. The sample included 2789 adolescents (1491 boys) aged 14.8 ± 2

Association between Screen Time and Sociodemographic Factors, Physical Activity, and BMI among Children in Six European Countries (Feel4Diabetes): A Cross-Sectional Study.

Screen time among children in most European countries is notably high and is influenced by various sociodemographic and other factors. Our study aimed to explore the associations between parents' sociodemographic characteristics, socioeconomic status, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, risk status for type 2 diabetes, and their children's BMI, physical activity, and screen time. The data were sourced from the 2016 Feel4Diabetes study, involving 12,280 parents and 12,211 children aged 6-9 years (average age 8.21 years) in a cross-sectional study design. We used a logistic regression mode

Mental Health of Young Australians during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Exploring the Roles of Employment Precarity, Screen Time, and Contact with Nature.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is widely understood to have contributed to mental health problems. In Australia, young people (18-24 years) have been disproportionately affected. To date, research has predominantly focused on the presence or absence of mental illness symptoms, while aspects of mental well-being have been overlooked. We aimed to explore associations between potential risk and protective factors and mental health more comprehensively, using the Complete State Model of Mental Health. An online survey of 1004 young Australians (55% female; M age = 21.23) was unde

Influence of physical activity, screen time and sleep on inmates' body weight during incarceration in Canadian federal penitentiaries: a retrospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Recent research found that inmates experience undesirable and rapid weight gain during incarceration in Canadian federal penitentiaries. However, little is known about what factors and daily movement behaviours (e.g., physical activity, screen time, and sleep) influence weight gain during incarceration. This study examines how these 24-h movement/non-movement behaviours contribute to weight gain during incarceration. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study explored how weight change outcomes during incarceration (weight change, body mass index (BMI) change, and yearly weight gain)

A longitudinal study of parent-child relationship and behavioral problems in children aged 3 to 6: the mediating role of screen time.

In the context of the digital era, screen media has become deeply embedded in family life, reshaping traditional parent-child interactions and altering the developmental ecology of early childhood. To examine how these dynamics unfold over time, we conducted a longitudinal study involving 532 Chinese children aged 3 to 6 years, assessed across three waves spaced 4 months apart. Analyses revealed that conflictual parent-child relationships at Time 1 significantly predicted both externalizing and internalizing behavioral problems at Time 3, with screen time at Time 2 serving as a partial mediato

Adolescents smartphone screen time and its association with caries symptoms experience from the Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey 2020-2021.

Adolescence is a time when important changes occur in behavioral development, and previous studies have confirmed the relationship between excessive Internet use and decreased oral health behavior. Our purpose is to identify the indirect effects and behavioral factors of smartphone screen time on the caries symptom experience of adolescents. Using data from the 16-17th Korea youth risk behavior web based survey (2020-2021), we investigated the smartphone screen time of 109,796 students in middle school 1st to high school 3rd. Adolescents who used smartphones more than 6 h per week were 28% mor

Physical (in)activity and screen-based media use of adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis over time - data from a German inception cohort.

BACKGROUND: Regular physical activity (PA) has been proven to help prevent non-communicable diseases and is beneficial for disease management in chronically ill populations. Physical inactivity and recreational screen-based media (SBM) use are related to poor health outcomes and common among youth. This study aimed to (1) investigate PA levels and recreational SBM use of adolescents with JIA over time and (2) compare these behaviours with those of their peers. METHODS: Data from JIA patients and their peers enrolled in the inception cohort study ICON at 11 German centers were analyzed. Indivi

Associations of changes in physical activity and discretionary screen time with incident obesity and adiposity changes: longitudinal findings from the UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) and discretionary screen time (DST; television and computer use during leisure) are both associated with obesity risk, but little longitudinal evidence exists on their combined influence. This study examined the independent and joint associations of changes in PA and DST with incident obesity, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). METHODS: We analysed the data of individuals aged 40-69 years from the UK Biobank, a large-scale, population-based prospective cohort study. PA was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and
