Decontamination efficacy of antiseptic agents on in vivo grown biofilms on rough titanium surfaces.

OBJECTIVE: Four common antimicrobial agents were evaluated for their efficacy in reduction of aerobic bacteria intraorally grown in biofilms on rough titanium samples. The solutions investigated contained chlorhexidine, essential oil, octenidine, or citric acid. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Twenty volunteers wore splints with titanium sleeves intraorally for 10 days. Following irrigation with the antiseptics, the sleeves were removed and biofilm samples were taken by swabbing. The bacteria were first examined microscopically by Gram staining. These samples from the surfaces were then cultured under

The erosive effects of some mouthrinses on enamel. A study in situ.

BACKGROUND: There are both anecdotal clinical and laboratory experimental data suggesting that low pH mouthrinses cause dental erosion. This evidence is particularly relevant to acidified sodium chlorite (ASC) formulations since they have plaque inhibitory properties comparable to chlorhexidine but without the well known local side effects. AIM: Studies in situ and in vitro were planned to measure enamel erosion by low pH mouthrinses. The study in situ measured enamel erosion by ASC, essential oil and hexetidine mouthrinses over 15-day study periods. The study was a 5 treatment, single blind

Prospective Pilot Study of Lavender Terpenoid Topical Formulation in Psoriasis Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: Clinical and Inflammatory Outcomes.

Background/Objectives: Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin disorder with a steadily rising prevalence worldwide. Current therapeutic strategies include topical and systemic treatments selected based on disease severity and associated comorbidities; however, no therapy provided a definitive cure. Topical therapy is associated with a lower risk of systemic adverse effects, although the altered skin barrier observed in psoriasis may significantly reduce the bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the efficacy of a top

The effect of polyvinyl pyrrolidone on the clinical activity of 0.09% and 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthrinses.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) added to a chlorhexidine rinse reduced extrinsic dental stain but at the expense of a reduction in plaque inhibitory activity. This effect appeared due to a reduction in the effective chlorhexidine dose to levels where dose response studies show plaque inhibition falls off rapidly. The aim of these 2 clinical studies was to determine if PVP could be added to chlorhexidine rinses to maintain efficacy and reduce staining. METHOD: Study 1 involved 42 healthy dentate volunteers and was a blind, randomised, 7 treatment, cross

Measuring and Modeling Air Pollution and Noise Exposure Near Unconventional Oil and Gas Development in Colorado.

INTRODUCTION: Rapid growth in unconventional oil and gas development (UOGD), driven by improvements in directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies, has made the United States the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas. Rapid UOGD expansion in Colorado's Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin, often intersecting with a growing population, has elevated local concerns about noise and air quality impacts. Independent near-pad observations of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) exposure and noise are uncommon, particularly during well drilling and completions, where evolving technologies a
