Computerized video imaging is a valuable adjunct for communication with patients and planning orthognathic surgical treatment. The incorporation of adjunctive soft tissue procedures to enhance the final aesthetic result of orthognathic surgery is a valuable addition to the orthodontic and orthognathic treatment plan. This paper presents the use of video imaging techniques in the planning and execution of comprehensive functional and aesthetically orientated orthodontic and surgical treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Total rhinectomy for tumors of the nasal cavity substantially alters patients' appearance and requires local reconstruction. While full nasal epitheses are well-established for this purpose, potential long-term adverse effects and impact on patients' quality of life are not fully understood.
METHODS: Sixteen patients who underwent total rhinectomy with ensuing nasal reconstruction with a full nasal epithesis were included in the study. Oncologic outcomes were assessed, and adverse effects and quality of life analyses were performed based on a patient-reported outcomes tool.

BACKGROUND: In scenarios of a dorsal hump with minor bony cap, ideal esthetic dorsal lines can be preserved and refined by component separation of the upper lateral cartilages from the septal T, resection of a septal strip and ethmoid bone wedge, adjustment of width and symmetry and final re-suture of the cartilaginous dorsum after pushdown, improving width and symmetry. The associated bony cap is managed by osteoplasty only with or without narrowing osteotomies, and septal deviations can be concomitantly corrected.
OBJECTIVES: A novel technique of modified dorsal cartilaginous pushdown after

BACKGROUND: Given the differences in pathophysiology between allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) and other chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) subgroups, it remains unclear about whether these patients respond differently to a combination of surgical and medical treatments.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate differences in quality-of-life (QoL) outcomes for a cohort of patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for CRS.
METHODS: This retrospective review included patients with CRS who underwent ESS between 2010 and 2013. QoL was measured by using the 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22). Vari

The objective of the current study was to analyze the effects of rhinoseptoplasty on internal nasal dimensions and speech resonance of individuals with unilateral cleft lip and palate, estimated by acoustic rhinometry and nasometry, respectively. Twenty-one individuals (aged 15-46 years) with previously repaired unilateral cleft lip and palate were analyzed before (PRE), and 6 to 9 (POST1) and 12 to 18 months (POST2) after surgery. Acoustic rhinometry was used to measure the cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of segments corresponding to the nasal valve (CSA1), anterior portion (CSA2), and posterior

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to examine the role of acoustic rhinometry in clinical practice. Although acoustic rhinometry was first described for clinical use in 1989, it is not in common use today. Should we be using it? Yes. I think we should be using it more often. This review provides an update of the new standard for interpretation and expanded clinical uses.
RECENT FINDINGS: The most significant advances in the past year in this area have been the publication of standards for its clinical use. In addition, the repertoire of clinical problems that can be analyzed

There are multiple hard- and soft-tissue considerations in facial surgery. The expertise of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon in treating patients with multiple facial injuries has shown time and time again that hard- and soft-tissue reconstruction can be performed either as simultaneous or as delayed procedures. The benefits of a total facial analysis approach to facial surgery are based upon aesthetic, functional, rejuvenative, and self-esteem issues. Proper diagnosis coupled with a comprehensive treatment plan utilizing a team approach provides for both simultaneous and delayed procedures

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of midline nasal dorsum skin defects following oncologic excision is challenging because of the aesthetic prominence of the region and the limited mobility of surrounding soft tissues. Flap-based techniques are commonly recommended; however, they may be associated with donor-site morbidity, visible scarring, and multistage procedures. Auricular composite grafts are well established for select nasal subunits, but their intentional use for midline nasal dorsum skin reconstruction has not been routinely described.
METHODS: We describe a novel single-stage reconstructiv

BACKGROUND: The paramedian forehead flap (PMFF) is a longstanding, versatile technique used in nasal reconstruction offering robust vascularity and excellent aesthetic outcomes. While the donor site is usually closed primarily, tension can make this challenging and may create widened scarring or dehiscence.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 108 patients undergoing PMFF following an excision of a basal or squamous cell carcinoma between January 2015 and December 2023 by a single surgeon was performed. Size of defect, location, postoperative complications, scar quality, and analysis using the

Objective: While septoplasty with turbinoplasty is commonly performed for patients with nasal obstruction, no study has addressed its efficacy and related determinants in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and various symptoms. This study aimed to identify potential factors associated with surgical outcomes in patients with persistent AR (PAR) who underwent septoplasty with turbinoplasty. Methods: We prospectively recruited patients with PAR and positive allergy test results for surgical treatment. We also collected relevant preoperative laboratory data. The Sinonasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-2

BACKGROUND: Nasal defects following Mohs resection are a reconstructive challenge, demanding aesthetic and functional considerations. Many reconstructive modalities are available, each with varying utility and efficacy. The goal of this study was to provide an algorithmic approach to nasal reconstruction and illustrate lessons learned from decades of reconstructing Mohs defects.
METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of consecutive patients who underwent nasal reconstruction after Mohs excision from 2003 to 2019 performed by the senior author (J.F.T.). Data were collected and analyzed

BACKGROUND: The nasal deformity that accompanies cleft conditions is often acknowledged as the most difficult obstacle to restoring facial balance in affected children. Despite considerable progress in the treatment of cleft lip and palate, the outcomes of cleft septorhinoplasty have proven variable and difficult to predict, possibly because of incomplete understanding of the underlying anatomical deformities. The authors sought to characterize unilateral cleft septal and dorsal deformities through a detailed morphologic model based on photogrammetric, qualitative, and quantitative computerize

INTRODUCTION: The performance of septoplasty and turbinate surgery in an outpatient basis is an increasingly established practice, although is still a controversial topic.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 227 patients who underwent septoplasty ± inferior and/or middle turbinoplasty. Demographic, clinical, surgical, and anesthetic data were collected. Our primary outcomes were rates of perioperative complications, prolongation of hospital stay (PHS), unexpected hospital revisits (UHR), or readmissions within 30 days of surgery.
RESULTS: The UHR rate was 4.8 and 6.6% in the first 48 h and 30

AIM: Cleft nose is an important sequela after primary cheiloplasty in cleft lip patients. Not touching the cleft lip nose in primary cleft lip repair was dogmatic in the past, although it meant severe functional, aesthetic, and psychologic problems for the child. Authors present their experience in one step lip, septum and nasal tip repair for this patients population.
METHODS: From March 2012 to January 2013, during charity missions organized in Africa, 56 patients affected by cleft lip deformity and sequelas of previous cleft lip surgery were operated.
RESULTS: Two complications were recor

Esthetic analysis of the face in some patients presenting a dental Class II can reveal the need for maxillo-mandibular advancement surgery. In these cases, mandibular advancement alone would provide a result which was satisfactory from the occlusal viewpoint but esthetically displeasing. Using bi-maxillary advancement, the impact of nasal volume is reduced and the nasolabial relationship is corrected. The sub-mandibular length is increased, thus creating a better-defined cervico-mental angle. This treatment technique involving a prior mandibular procedure has the advantage of restoring patient
