An Enhanced Social Network Strategy to Increase the Uptake of HIV Services: Protocol for Type I Hybrid Implementation Study (Carolinas RESPOND).

BACKGROUND: In the United States, persisting new HIV diagnoses among gay, bisexual, and other cisgender men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and transgender women make it unlikely that the United States will meet the Ending the HIV Epidemic's (EHE) goal to reduce new HIV diagnoses by 90% by 2030. Innovative strategies are needed to address this challenge, particularly in the US South, where Black and Latinx GBMSM and transgender women are disproportionately impacted by HIV. Social network approaches have led to increased HIV testing uptake. Social network interventions that are responsive to indi

The CHALO! 2.0 mHealth-Based Multilevel Intervention to Promote HIV Testing and Linkage-to-Care Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Mumbai, India: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Current programs to engage marginalized populations such as gay and bisexual individuals and other men who have sex with men (MSM) in HIV prevention interventions do not often reach all MSM who may benefit from them. To reduce the global burden of HIV, far-reaching strategies are needed to engage MSM in HIV prevention and treatment. Globally, including low- and middle-income countries, MSM are now widely using internet-based social and mobile technologies (SMTs; eg, dating apps, social media, and WhatsApp [Meta]), which provides an unprecedented opportunity to engage unreached and

Lessons Learned From the Implementation of a Pilot Study on Self-collected Specimen Return by Sexual Minority Men (Project Caboodle!): Qualitative Exploration.

BACKGROUND: Self-collection of specimens at home and their return by mail might help reduce some of the barriers to HIV and bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening encountered by gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). To evaluate the benefits and challenges of bringing this approach to scale, researchers are increasingly requesting GBMSM to return self-collected specimens as part of web-based sexual health studies. Testing self-collected hair samples for preexposure prophylaxis drug levels may also be a viable option to identify GBMSM who face adherence di

Perinatal Depression Screening Among Sexual Minority Women.

IMPORTANCE: A substantial number of births in the US are to sexual minority women (17% based on a nationally representative survey), yet there is little research on perinatal depression screening rates or symptom endorsement among sexual minority women (including women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer, pansexual, asexual, demisexual, and kinky as well as other-identified women who have sex with women). High rates of risk factors for perinatal depression (eg, intimate partner violence and history of mental illness) among sexual minority individuals magnify this gap in the literature. O

Work2Prevent, an Employment Intervention Program as HIV Prevention for Young Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender Youth of Color (Phase 3): Protocol for a Single-Arm Community-Based Trial to Assess Feasibility and Acceptability in a Real-World Setting.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, young cisgender men who have sex with men (YMSM), young transgender women (YTW), and gender nonconforming (GNC) youth face elevated rates of HIV infection. However, racial and ethnic disparities in adolescent HIV infection cannot be attributed to individual-level factors alone and are situated within larger social and structural contexts that marginalize and predispose sexual and gender minority youth of color to HIV. Addressing broader ecological factors that drive transmission requires interventions that focus on the distal drivers of HIV infection, includin

A Men Who Have Sex With Men-Friendly Doctor Finder Hackathon in Guangzhou, China: Development of a Mobile Health Intervention to Enhance Health Care Utilization.

BACKGROUND: Mobile health (mHeath)-based HIV and sexual health promotion among men who have sex with men (MSM) is feasible in low- and middle-income settings. However, many currently available mHealth tools on the market were developed by the private sector for profit and have limited input from MSM communities. OBJECTIVE: A health hackathon is an intensive contest that brings together participants from multidisciplinary backgrounds to develop a proposed solution for a specific health issue within a short period. The purpose of this paper was to describe a hackathon event that aimed to develo

HIV infection and engagement in HIV care cascade among men who have sex with men and transgender women in Kigali, Rwanda: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Given intersecting biological, network and structural risks, men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) consistently have a high burden of HIV. Although MSM are a key population in Rwanda, there are limited epidemiologic data to guide programming. This study aimed to characterize HIV prevalence and care cascade among MSM and TGW in Kigali. METHODS: MSM and TGW ≥ 18 years were recruited using respondent-driven sampling (RDS) from March-August 2018 in Kigali. Participants underwent a structured interview including measures of individual, network and structural det

Sexual behaviors and seroprevalence of HIV, HBV, and HCV among hill tribe youths of Northern Thailand.

BACKGROUND: Sexual behaviors reflect the degree of exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV), especially in people in sexually active stages, such as youths. Hill tribe people have their own cultures, beliefs and lifestyles related to their behaviors, including sexual behaviors, which may lead to HIV, HBV, and HCV infections, especially among youths. The study aimed to examine sexual behaviors and assess the seroprevalence of HIV, HBV, and HCV among hill tribe youths. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted. The participants we

Acceptability and Feasibility of a Telehealth Intervention for Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Among Male Couples: Protocol for a Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) are at elevated risk for acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, especially chlamydia and gonorrhea. While research has indicated main partners over casual partners may play a central role in STI risk, the frequency of STI screening among MSM couples is particularly low. Self-sample collection for chlamydia and gonorrhea screening has been shown to be highly accurate, and at-home STI testing has been shown to be highly acceptable among diverse populations. However, there is little research explo

A Multilevel Tailored Web App-Based Intervention for Linking Young Men Who Have Sex With Men to Quality Care (Get Connected): Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: HIV epidemic among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) is characterized by strong racial disparities and concerns about the availability and access to culturally appropriate HIV prevention and care service delivery. Get Connected, a Web-based intervention that employs individual- and system-level tailoring technology to reduce barriers to HIV prevention care (eg, HIV or sexually transmitted infection [STI] testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis [PrEP]), was developed for YMSM (age 15-24 years). This protocol details the design and procedures of a 2-phase project that includes mystery

Recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor ameliorates zidovudine-induced neutropenia in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)/AIDS-related complex.

To evaluate the effect of recombinant granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) on patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or AIDS-related complex (ARC) who were intolerant to zidovudine because of neutropenia, we performed a randomized, open-label study in which patients were assigned to one of two groups. Zidovudine was discontinued in group A patients before instituting GM-CSF treatment and was restarted in a graduated fashion over 4 weeks. Group B patients continued on full-dose (1,200 mg/d) zidovudine therapy while beginning GM-CSF therapy. A total of 17 pa

LGBTQIA+ sexual health: a SITCC clinical framework for integrating cognitive-behavioral therapy and sexual medicine.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual and gender diverse (LGBTQIA+) individuals experience significant sexual health disparities shaped by minority stress processes, trauma exposure, mental health burden, and historically heteronormative and cisnormative clinical frameworks. Although international guidelines, standards of care, and professional guidance documents increasingly endorse affirmative and evidence-informed care, their integration into routine sexual medicine and psychotherapeutic practice remains inconsistent, particularly in the assessment and clinical management of sexual dysfunctions in LGBTQIA+

Evaluation of an Artificial Intelligence Conversational Chatbot to Enhance HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Uptake: Development and Usability Internal Testing.

BACKGROUND: The HIV epidemic in the United States disproportionately impacts gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). Despite the effectiveness of HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in preventing HIV acquisition, uptake among MSM remains suboptimal. Motivational interviewing (MI) has demonstrated efficacy at increasing PrEP uptake among MSM but is resource-intensive, limiting scalability. The use of artificial intelligence, particularly large language models with conversational agents (ie, "chatbots") such as ChatGPT, may offer a scalable approach to delivering MI-based counse

Designing a Gamified mHealth App for HIV Prevention and Comorbidities Among Malaysian Young Men Who Have Sex With Men: An Interdisciplinary Expert Panel Study.

BACKGROUND: New HIV cases among Malaysian men who have sex with men continue to rise, with young men who have sex with men (YMSM) accounting for 44% of new infections and experiencing high rates of comorbidities. Mobile health (mHealth) apps offer a promising approach to addressing these challenges by providing discreet access to health information, screening tools, and linkage to services. Given the near-universal smartphone ownership among Malaysian YMSM and high levels of mobile gaming engagement, gamified mHealth apps may be particularly effective in sustaining engagement and promoting HIV
