The hearing loss of 21 patients with hypoparathyroidism was investigated by pure tone audiometry, short increment sensitivity index (SISI) test, Békésy audiometry, speech audiometry, and auditory brain stem response. Sensorineural hearing loss was found in 7 of 21 patients (13 of 42 ears) receiving no treatment for hypoparathyroidism or having chronic hypocalcemia. OBJECTIVE: To describe 2 patients presenting with idiopathic tinnitus concomitant with eye closure.
STUDY DESIGN: Clinical capsule report.
SETTING: University hospital.
PATIENTS: Two patients presented with intermittent tinnitus synchronous with eye closing or blinking. Otoscopic examination revealed inward movement of tympanic membranes concomitantly with eye blinking or eye closure in 1 patient. Neither patient had facial nerve disease or myoclonus.

A comparison between pure-tone audiometry and brainstem electric response audiometry was made in 25 children with a conductive hearing loss due to otitis media with effusion. A 10 year-old girl was admitted due to the claim of progressively developing hearing loss. The impedance audiometry showed no abnormalities but it was impossible to obtain reliable outcomes during pure tone audiometry assessment. We determined the pure-tone hearing thresholds of 25 patients with unilateral active Menière's disease using standard clinical audiometry, high-frequency audiometry (10-18 kHz), and low-frequency audiometry (20-80 Hz). In addition to hearing loss at the conventional frequencies, all of the affected ears showed deterioration of the thresholds at both low- and high-frequency areas as compared with the reference ears. Assessment of hearing in children with various types of cerebral palsy was the aim of the study. The audiologic and laryngologic examinations were performed in 32 children with cerebral palsy. 1-10 years after the first examination, 56 children below 15 years of age with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss were re-examined with a test-battery consisting of puretone and speech audiometry, stapedius reflex tests, caloric tests, brainstem response audiometry and otoneurological tests. OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of this study was to determine whether a combination of automatically administered pure-tone audiometry and a tone-in-noise detection task, both delivered via an air conduction (AC) pathway, could reliably and validly predict the presence of a conductive component to the hearing loss. The authors hypothesized that performance on the battery of tests would vary according to hearing loss type.
