Online-CBT for endometriosis: Exploring the acceptability and impact of the Ed.iTh program.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND: Psychological distress significantly contributes to impairment in endometriosis. However, patients face systemic barriers to psychological support, including long waiting times, stigma, and a lack of endometriosis-specific expertise. Internet-based CBT (iCBT) offers a promising alternative, yet its acceptability and perceived helpfulness in addressing the psychological needs of endometriosis patients remains unexplored. AIM: This study aimed to evaluate users' experiences with Ed.iTh, the first therapist-guided iCBT program developed for individuals with endometriosis.

A Rapid Review of Conventional and Strengths-Based Interventions to Support Recovery for Adult Female Survivors of Sexual Assault.

Sexual violence remains a major public health issue with serious consequences for adult female survivors of sexual assault (AFSSA). This review examined recent evidence on conventional and strengths-based therapies for AFSSA and identified key intervention components that aid recovery. Guided by Cochrane Rapid Review Procedures and PRISMA standards, nine databases and reference lists were searched for peer-reviewed studies in English from 2012 to 2022 that met eligibility criteria for interventions targeting AFSSA. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts, and full texts using th

The Kvetch: Assessment, Pathogenesis, and Treatment of Patients Who Are Clinically Impaired by Chronic Complaining.

Clinicians often encounter patients whose presentations are characterized by long lists of complaints about their biological, psychological, interpersonal, and social conditions. The problems on which the complaints are based are variably reality-based and variably modifiable. Some of these patients display chronic complaining as a core, distinguishing feature. Accordingly, the aims of this article are to consider excesses of chronic complaining as psychiatric phenomena, explore possible pathogenetic contributions, describe approaches for treating conditions marked by clinically pertinent chro

Recommended practices to organize and deliver school-based services for children with disabilities: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Inclusive educational environments can have a positive effect on the general health and well-being of children with disabilities. However, their level of academic success and participation remains limited. Considering scarce resources and high needs, identifying efficient methods for providing interdisciplinary services is critical. This scoping review, therefore, aims to (a) synthesize current evidence about principles for organizing and delivering interdisciplinary school-based support services for students with disabilities and (b) ascertain useful strategies for implementation

Attenuated Psychophysiological Reactivity following Single-Session Group Imagery Rescripting versus Verbal Restructuring in Social Anxiety Disorder: Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of psychotherapies for social anxiety disorder (SAD) is typically evaluated using self- and clinician-reported symptom change, while biomarkers of treatment response are rarely measured. The current study aimed to compare biomarkers of response following two brief group interventions for SAD. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of single-session group interventions for SAD (n = 58) - imagery rescripting (IR) and verbal restructuring (VR) versus waitlist control (WC). The IR intervention guided participants to rescript autobiograp

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Group Support Decrease Stress in Adolescents with Cardiac Diagnoses: A Randomized Two-Group Study.

Adolescents with cardiac diagnoses face unique challenges that can cause psychosocial distress. This study compares a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program to a video online support group for adolescents with cardiac diagnoses. MBSR is a structured psycho-educational program which includes yoga, meditation, cognitive restructuring, and group support. A published feasibility study by our group showed significant reduction in anxiety following this intervention. Participants were randomized to MBSR or video online support group, and completed measures of anxiety, depression, illness-

CBT for difficult-to-treat depression: self-regulation model.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment for depression but a significant minority of clients do not complete therapy, do not respond to it, or subsequently relapse. Non-responders, and those at risk of relapse, are more likely to have adverse childhood experiences, early-onset depression, co-morbidities, interpersonal problems and heightened risk. This is a heterogeneous group of clients who are currently difficult to treat. AIM: The aim was to develop a CBT model of depression that will be effective for difficult-to-treat clients who have not responded to st

Alteration of the blood-brain barrier by COVID-19 and its implication in the permeation of drugs into the brain.

Diverse neurological symptoms have been reported in patients with SARS-CoV-2 disease (COVID-19), including stroke, ataxia, meningitis, encephalitis, and cognitive impairment. These alterations can cause serious sequelae or death and are associated with the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into the Central Nervous System (CNS). This mini-review discusses the main proposed mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 interacts with the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and its involvement in the passage of drugs into the CNS. We performed a search in PubMed with the terms "COVID-19" or "SARS-CoV-2" and "blood-brain barrier injury

The Adolescent Microbiome-Gut-Brain Axis: Development, Mechanisms, and Translational Perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence represents a pivotal, yet understudied, developmental window in which maturation of the gut microbiome, neural circuits, endocrine systems, and behavioral processes converge. Although early-life microbiota-gut-brain interactions are well established, emerging evidence demonstrates that adolescence constitutes a "second sensitive period" during which microbial composition, metabolic output, and immune function undergo substantial restructuring. These microbial transitions parallel key neurodevelopmental events, including synaptic pruning, dopaminergic refinement, and hei

Clostridium butyricum JJ100 and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LR alleviate liver injury in mice caused by continuous high-dose-alcohol exposure by protecting the intestinal barrier, rebuilding the gut microbiota and regulating AMPK and TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways.

Alcohol consumption poses a major global public health challenge, with excessive drinkers showing heightened susceptibility to alcoholic liver disease (ALD) - a condition with complex pathogenesis. In this study, we used male BALB/c mice with identical enterotypes to establish a sustained high-dose alcohol-induced liver injury model. The model was created through daily intragastric administration of 52% (v/v) ethanol (10 mL kg-1) for four consecutive weeks, allowing us to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of probiotic supplementation with Clostridium butyricum and Lacticaseibacillus rha

Validating the usefulness of the NSI validity-10 with the MMPI-2-RF.

Purpose/Aim of the Study: The Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI) is a 22-item self-report measure created to quantify the somatosensory, cognitive, and affective symptoms of Post-concussive Syndrome. Developers of the NSI used a subset of 10 items, the Validty-10, to measure symptom overreporting. We compared the Validity-10 versus the remaining NSI items (i.e., the Remaining-12) for how accurately they detect symptom exaggeration on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Second Edition - Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF).Materials and Methods: We used a sample of 45 veterans evaluat
