TBCK syndrome is a severe degenerative leukoencephalopathy with multisystem involvement. Neurodevelopmental, craniofacial, and pulmonary challenges are among the topmost effects on these children. TBCK has been implicated in endo-lysosomal regulation, RNA transport, and mTOR-associated pathways, all of which are critical for the development of mineralized tissue. Although craniofacial abnormalities can be clinically apparent, conventional imaging approaches may overlook subtle defects in mineral quality. Here, we apply our multimodal framework to investigate the mineralization of enamel, denti

INTRODUCTION: Photobiomodulation has been widely used as a complementary treatment for dentin hypersensitivity, with reports of clinical success. However, the literature offers only one study, in which photobiomodulation was used for the treatment of sensitivity in molars with molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH). The aim of the proposed study is to determine whether photobiomodulation enhances the results of treatment with glass ionomer sealant on molars with MIH that present sensitivity.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study involves 50 patients from 6 to 12 years of age that will be randomly a

Mineralization of bones and teeth is tightly regulated by levels of extracellular inorganic phosphate (Pi) and pyrophosphate (PPi). Three regulators that control pericellular concentrations of Pi and PPi include tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP), progressive ankylosis protein (ANK), and ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (ENPP1). Inactivation of these factors results in mineralization disorders affecting teeth and their supporting structures. This study for the first time analyzed the effect of decreased PPi on dental development in individuals with generalized art

OBJECTIVE: The 'stress' hormone cortisol has recently been identified in human teeth, representing a potential method for assessing stress in past populations. In this study, dental cortisol concentrations were analyzed in teeth with dental enamel hypoplasia (DEH) to advance knowledge about this new method for detecting stress in archaeological skeletons.
MATERIALS: Ten teeth with DEH were selected from nine individuals buried in the 'Brno-Vídeňská Street' cemetery (11th-12th century).
METHODS: DEH were classified by type and number. Cortisol was assessed in circumpulpal dentine, primary den

BACKGROUND: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a transient pain triggered by thermal, tactile, or osmotic stimuli, commonly linked to exposed dentinal tubules. Its relationship with untreated periodontal disease, however, remains underexplored.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective epidemiological study was conducted at a specialized periodontics clinic and included 930 patients diagnosed with periodontal disease. Patients with a history of periodontal treatment, or other potential causes of DH, were excluded. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing habits and symptoms related to DH. Bi

Dental pain often arises from the compromised integrity of the tooth pulp due to dental injury or caries. The dentin-pulp complex has long been considered to be central to the unique biology of dental pain. Most trigeminal ganglion afferents projecting into tooth pulp are myelinated neurons, which lose their myelination at the site of peripheral dentin innervation. The pulpal afferents likely combine multiple internal and external stimuli to mediate nociception and maintain pulp homeostasis. Transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels in neurons and odontoblasts, along with mechanosensitiv

The realization that the use of strength tests as a means to probe the bonding performance of adhesive systems to dental restorative materials suffers from inherent drawbacks has shifted efforts towards devising viable and valid fracture toughness test for that purpose. Here we introduce a new procedure to produce split-Chevron-Notched-Beam specimens that need not undergo sawing or notching after bonding, thus sparing the interface from pre-stresses. We evaluate the formal geometric factor considering the influence of the use of different materials having different elastic properties, and show

Dentine hypersensitivity (DH) is a common condition that is frequently encountered in dental practice. The aim of this multi-centre and cross-sectional study was to establish the prevalence of DH in the general population in China. A total of 6843 subjects were questioned and examined using a triple syringe with a blast of cold air to confirm the diagnosis of DH. The sensitive surface, loss of attachment and gingival recession of sensitive teeth were measured and recorded. Of the 2932 subjects reporting hypersensitive symptoms, 2363 subjects were further diagnosed as DH, giving an overall prev

A commonly recognized dental problem in cats is the resorption of tooth structure and subsequent loss of the tooth. These tooth defects are often very painful, because the sensitive dentin layer is exposed. The destruction of the tooth through odontoclastic resorption is considered a consequence of inflammatory resorption, probably secondary to periodontal inflammation. Because these resorptive lesions are progressive in nature, it is best to stage this progression of resorption in order to address treatment planning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a group of 58 cats with resorptive

This study examined by scanning electron microscopy the effect of various mechanical and chemical procedures in obliterating dentinal tubuli. Dentin blocks containing open, cross-sectioned dentinal tubuli were separated into one experimental and one control area. The mechanical treatments consisted of 20 seconds of continuous instrumentation with sharp and dull curets, finely textured inserts for the EVA reciprocating handpiece, metal and plastic inserts for a sonic scaler, and metal inserts for an ultrasonic scaler. Chemical treatments included a light-cured dental resin and active obliterati

OBJECTIVES: Gingival recessions (GR) are often associated with dentin hypersensitivity (HYP) and can significantly affect patients' oral health-related quality of life. This subgroup-analysis of a previously published study assesses the long-term effects of oscillating-rotating powered (PT) and manual toothbrushes (MT) on HYP in teeth with pre-existing GR and no interproximal attachment loss (RT1) over 36 months.
METHODS: Ninety participants with RT1 were divided into PT-/MT-group (n = 47/n = 43). All participants brushed twice daily with the same fluoride toothpaste. HYP scores were reassess
