PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to retrospectively analyze the electroclinical features, etiology, treatment, and prognosis of 29 patients with Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS) with a long-term follow-up.
METHODS: Inclusion criteria were a diagnosis of LKS with: (1) acquired aphasia or verbal auditory aphasia; (2) with or without focal seizures, secondarily generalized tonic-clonic seizures, absences, or atonic seizures.

Angelman syndrome (AS) is a neuro-behavioural, genetically determined condition, characterized by ataxic jerky movements, happy sociable disposition and unprovoked bouts of laughter in association with seizures, learning disabilities and language impairment. We studied 52 patients with electric status epilepticus in slow sleep (EESSS) during 3-5 years. Age-dependent peculiarities of clinical course of the disease, risk factors for EESSS and rational approaches to antiepileptic treatment for these cases were singled out. Symptomatic and idiopathic EESSS variants were revealed. Combinations of valproates, levetiracetam and ethosuximidum were the most effective antiepileptic drugs in the treatment of EESSS.
