Aspects of living conditions among groups of disabled children and their families in Norway: family situation, mothers' health, financial assistance.

A survey of 875 disabled children in Norway aged 0-19, representing ten different disabling conditions, was carried out between January 1976 and December 1978. Parents of the disabled children were interviewed, medical records studied and the children examined. Mother's age, level of education, presence of disabled siblings, spouse's education and profession as well as emergency situations related to the disabled child's condition appeared to be factors influencing the mother's health and therefore inevitably the family's ability to cope with the situation. Social insurance seemed to have been

Families' Public and Private Safety Nets and Child Mental Health Outcomes Among Families Involved with Child Protective Services.

The mental health of children is a growing public health concern, and the prevalence and severity of mental health symptoms are significantly higher for children whose families are involved with child protective services (CPS). Among families in the general population, a strong family safety net can help guard against risks and promote child mental health; however, research on the safety nets of families involved with CPS is limited. Using the family stress model as a theoretical foundation, we conducted growth curve analyses to determine the extent to which different categories of family safe

[Oral health assessment of seniors under outpatient care by family doctors : Development and validation of the geriatric outpatient oral health screening].

BACKGROUND: Despite a high prevalence in the general practitioner (GP) and geriatric field, limitations of oral health of seniors under outpatient care in Germany are not routinely recorded. Since seniors with a high age visit GPs more often than dentists, the question arises whether an interdisciplinary screening instrument can be used to identify reduced oral health in routine practice. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the work was to develop a screening tool for reduced oral health for GPs and to validate this by dental examinations. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The geriatric outpatient oral health screeni

These issues have become a current focus of the World Health Organization. METHODS: Answers to questions of interest from the 2003 National Survey of Children's Health were reported using estimates and SEs of rates. Statistical comparisons of rates with chi2 tests at the 0.05 level

Evaluation of a family-focused intervention to promote adolescent mental health and family relationships (phase 3 of MOST): protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Parenting interventions have shown promise in improving mental well-being for parents and children and strengthening family relationships. Parenting for lifelong health (PLH) is an open-access, evidence-informed programme that aims to improve positive parenting practices, reduce family violence and promote mental health, particularly in low-resource settings. This study will evaluate the implementation and (cost-)effectiveness of an adapted version of the PLH for Parents and Teens programme. It will focus on supporting positive parenting, communication, mental health and well-bei

Improving Health Outcomes for Immigrant Families Through IPV Screening: Resources and Recommendations for Pediatric Health Care Providers.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant yet preventable public health problem affecting 1 in 15 children annually. Children exposed to IPV exhibit lifelong consequences including increased risks of social, emotional, psychological and behavioral problems (mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, substance abuse, and school-related problems). Limited research exists in identifying and assessing gaps in IPV screening and surveillance techniques for vulnerable populations such as immigrants, refugees, or in families where English is not spoken in the home. The U.S. De

Patient satisfaction with the implementation of the family medicine model at Nassem Health Centre, Kuwait.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Primary health care centres (PHCCs) are the foundation stone of Kuwait's public healthcare system, providing accessible and comprehensive services. Patient satisfaction is a critical indicator of healthcare quality and is associated with improved adherence to medical advice and better health outcomes. Despite international evidence supporting structured family medicine and appointment-based systems, Kuwait's PHCCs continue to operate primarily on a walk-in basis. This study aimed to describe patient satisfaction with a family medicine appointment clinic at the Nassem
