Cutaneous Metastasis in Breast Cancer: A Case Series.

The most frequent reason for cutaneous metastases is breast cancer in females. Breast cancer patients can present with cutaneous manifestations of breast disease at the time of their initial diagnosis; however, cutaneous metastases more often present well after the initial diagnosis and treatment of the breast disease. We described three cases of carcinoma of breast metastasis to the skin of the breast and the chest wall, each with a unique dermatological presentation. A 52-year-old woman presented with a cutaneous erythematous papule for the past month. She underwent a modified radical mastec

[A Case of Breast Cancer with Parenchymal and Meningeal Central Nervous System Metastases Treated with Multimodality Therapy].

A 64-year-old woman who received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)- targeted therapy underwent modified radical mastectomy and axillary lymph node resection for HER2-positiveright breast cancer. After the surgery, chemotherapy, post-mastectomy radiation therapy, and HER2-targeted therapy were administered as adjuvant therapies. Two years and 6 months postoperatively, she complained of headaches and nausea. Magnetic resonance imaging showed brain metastasis, which was treated with gamma knife surgery. Two weeks later, she was urgently admitted to the h

Comparison of erector spinae plane, paravertebral, and pectoral nerve blocks on postoperative analgesia and Quality of Recovery-15 in patients undergoing mastectomy: a prospective randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Modified radical mastectomy (MRM) is frequently associated with moderate to severe postoperative pain, which may negatively affect recovery and quality of life. Regional anesthesia techniques such as the erector spinae plane block (ESPB), thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB), and pectoral nerve block (PECS) have been increasingly used as part of multimodal analgesia strategies for breast surgery. However, their comparative effects on analgesic efficacy and quality of recovery remain unclear. METHODS: The study included 90 female patients undergoing unilateral elective MRM. Patients

Reappraisal of internal mammary node metastases as a prognostic factor in patients with breast cancer.

Clinical, histologic, and biologic prognostic factors were examined in 144 patients with invasive breast cancer. It was determined whether variable prognostic factors, especially internal mammary lymph node metastases, would serve as a basis for the prognosis of breast cancer. In a univariate study, overall survival was significantly correlated with tumor size, axillary lymph node status, axillary and internal mammary lymph node metastases, and DNA ploidy status. Especially among patients with one to three positive axillary nodes, survival in case of internal mammary involvement were significa

Rectus sternalis-a rare anatomical variation found during mastectomy: report of two cases and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Rectus sternalis (RS) is a rare normal variant of the anterior chest wall musculature; in humans, it is occasionally found while it is part of some animals' musculature. It was first reported in 1604, but it did not catch much attention and was only formally described in 1726. Many names have been used to refer to it, such as RS or musculus sternalis. It is mostly observed in Asians, and in Saudi Arabia, the prevalence was found to be 4%. It can be confused with tumors of the anterior chest wall during routine mammography. Also, it can affect the radiation field after surgery and c

Successful use of minimal invasive debridement plus negative pressure wound therapy under skin flap and axillary region for refractory postmastectomy seroma: A STROBE-compliant retrospective study.

Seroma is the most common wound complication due to dead space remaining after mastectomy and axillary dissection. Seroma formation, which causes pain and tension, together with the limitations of shoulder and arm movements, can cause wound healing problems that can progress to wound dehiscence and flap necrosis. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of continuous drainage and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in breast cancer patients with refractory postmastectomy seroma. This retrospectively designed study was conducted with 27 patients who were referred to our center bet

Autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis co-existing with breast cancer: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is a rare pulmonary disease characterized by excessive alveolar accumulation of surfactant due to defective alveolar clearance by macrophages. There are only a few published case reports of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis occurring in association with solid cancers. To the best of our knowledge, there are no previously reported cases of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis associated with breast cancer. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old Asian woman, a nonsmoker, presented to our institution with a right breast mass. Biopsy examination of the lesion reveale

Streptococcal cellulitis following preparation of fresh raw seafood.

We describe three zoonotic streptococcal soft tissue infections resulting from fresh seafood contact. One was a localized thumb infection with Streptococcus iniae in an immunocompetent healthy young male resulting from a puncture wound from a crab pincer. The other two were cases of ascending upper limb cellulitis associated with bacteraemia in mastectomy patients. One of these infections was caused by S. iniae while the other was caused by Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae, a species that has not been previously described as a cause of zoonotic infection. Hence when cleaning raw

Comparison between rapid and slow tissue expansion in breast reconstruction.

Fifty women scheduled for breast reconstruction surgery with tissue expansion were randomly divided into two groups. In the first group the tissue was expanded rapidly, i.e., once a day, starting 1 week postoperatively, and in the other group it was expanded slowly, i.e., once a week, starting after 2 weeks. The expansion periods were 14 and 41 days, respectively. In both groups the expansion volume was about 200% of the final breast prosthesis. The expanders were replaced by textured, gel-filled implants after 3 months. Follow-up examinations were made after 6 and 12 months to evaluate breast

Multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer control.

A multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer control was developed through a network of 22 hospitals, and data were collected over two time periods to evaluate the impact of the network. A total of 1,800 cases of female breast cancer treated during the baseline period of 1971 to 1973 were compared with 2,102 current cases treated during the 1975 to 1977 study period. These cases were compared with regard to detection, diagnosis, and primary therapy. Several improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of patients studied in the later period indicate the program has had a positive impact. Impro

Carcinoma Breast Presenting with Concurrent Extensive Lymph Nodal Sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease characterized by noncaseating granulomas involving any organ. Concurrent carcinoma breast with sarcoidosis is a rare occurrence. A 51-year-old female presented with right breast lump and was diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma with lymph nodal (LN) metastases (estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor positive, and HER2neu negative). Baseline fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) scan revealed breast mass with multiple LNs. Biopsy of iliac and internal mammary LNs indicated granulomatous lymphadenitis. A possi

Radiation recall dermatitis after treatment of stage IV breast cancer with nivolumab: a case report.

Radiation recall dermatitis (RRD) is an uncommon dermatologic reaction provoked notably by chemotherapy in an area of skin irradiated weeks to years prior. We report a case of RRD with nivolumab in a woman with breast cancer. The patient was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast with an isolated spinal metastasis approached in an oligometastatic fashion with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, modified radical mastectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. Unfortunately, after progression of bony metastases treated with radiotherapy, the patient received nivolumab and subsequently developed

Granulocytic sarcoma presenting as a giant breast tumor in a pregnant woman: a case report.

We report a case of granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) presenting as a giant breast tumor in a pregnant woman with no history of leukemia. The case was initially diagnosed as medullary carcinoma on a biopsy specimen and a modified radical mastectomy was performed. The diagnosis of granulocytic sarcoma requires the pathologist's high index of suspicion. The presence of immature eosinophils was an important clue. Leder's chloroacetate esterase stain; immunostaining for myeloperoxidase, CD34, CD43, CD68, and lysozyme; and ultrastructural finding of cytoplasmic lysosomal granules and Auer bodies all

Male breast cancer: experience from a quaternary hospital in Tanzania.

INTRODUCTION: male breast cancer (MBC) is rare, but its incidence is increasing globally. In sub-Saharan Africa, breast cancer care has primarily focused on women, creating a gap in understanding MBC outcomes. This study aimed to examine the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of MBC patients at Tanzania´s National Hospital. METHODS: this retrospective cohort study, conducted at Muhimbili National Hospital, included male patients aged 18 years and above with histologically confirmed breast cancer diagnosed between January 2018 and December 2024. Demographic and clinical data were

Gallbladder metastasis in invasive ductal breast cancer with concurrent gallstones and gallbladder carcinoma.

The gallbladder is an uncommon location for tumor metastases. Breast cancer seldom spreads to the gallbladder, although melanoma and renal cell tumors typically do. We report a case of a 58-year-old woman with chronic cholecystitis caused by gallstones. Following a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a nodule was discovered on the gallbladder wall. Based on her medical history and pathological tissue molecular typing, the diagnosis was determined to be gallbladder metastasis of invasive breast ductal carcinoma, with a negative hormone receptor. Two years prior, the patient had undergone a modified r

Sudden hemorrhage of the breast caused by breast cancer: a case report and review of the literature.

A rare case of sudden hemorrhage caused by breast cancer is reported. A 71-year-old woman noted bleeding from her left breast. Physical examination of the left breast showed a localized open cavity accompanied by bleeding and coagulation. The patient had no history of breast trauma or anticoagulation therapy. Incisional biopsy followed by histological examination resulted in a diagnosis of granulation tissue with no cancer cells present. Mammography and ultrasonography indicated probable breast cancer. As a result, a second incisional biopsy was performed, which suggested invasive ductal carci
