Three cases of mesenteric cystic lymphangiomas in children are reported. All of them were found during laparotomies for acute abdomen, and their pathology was rather similar, except for the contents which was chylous in the two cases located in the jejunum and serous in the remaining ileal case. One of these tumours contained calcified material, a fact which makes diagnostic suspicion possible. The literature on this topic is up-dated.

A patient presented with a huge, pedunculated abdominal cystic lymphangioma arising from the quadrate lobe of the liver near the round ligament. Microscopically, dilated hepatic ducts with scant liver tissue could be recognized in the main cyst. A review of the literature reveals no previous report of a lymphangioma arising in this manner or from this area.

BACKGROUND: Cystic lymphangioma is an uncommon congenital malformation usually encountered in children and often discovered fortuitously.
CASE REPORT: A 46-year-old man was hospitalized for acute alcoholic hepatitis with edematoascitic decompensation. The abdominal and pelvic CT scan showed homogeneous hepatomegaly and a tumoral process involving the terminal ileal loops without signs of occlusion or node enlargement. The files were studied of 362 patients hospitalized in the Surgical Clinic from Tg. Genetically athymic nu/nu (nude) rats, deficient in T cells, die from infection with various Toxoplasma gondii strains, including RH and Prugniaud strains. This article reports a case of perinatal mesenchymal hepatic hamartoma and reviews the literature on the subject. A fetus presented with polyhydramnios and a large multiloculated cystic abdominal mass at 33 weeks of gestation. The ultrasound appearance was most consistent with a mesenteric cyst.
