BACKGROUND: Chronic pain is a debilitating and common health issue. General Practitioners (GPs) often prescribe opioids to treat chronic pain, despite limited evidence of benefit and increasing evidence of harms, including prescription Opioid Use Disorder (pOUD). Australian GPs are worried about the harms of long-term opioids, but few are involved in the treatment of pOUD. There is little research on GPs' experiences diagnosing and managing pOUD in their chronic pain patients.
METHODS: This qualitative research used semi-structured interviews and a case study to investigate GPs' experiences t

Patient involvement is crucial in healthcare, a factor increasingly recognised by life sciences companies and research institutes. This article presents a case study on Servier, a life sciences company that founded a patient expert board, ahead of launching a new research and development (R&D) institute. The aim was to foster a patient-centric culture within the company. The case study explores key developments in patient and public involvement, emphasising a shift from paternalistic to patient-centred approaches, noting few available case studies on patient board collaborations in life scienc

BACKGROUND: Soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) and schistosomiasis (SCH) are among the most prevalent neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), affecting 1.5 billion globally, with a significant burden in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria. These diseases impair health and contribute to socio-economic challenges, especially in children, undermining educational and future economic prospects. The 2030 NTD Roadmap highlights Mass Drug Administration (MDA) as a critical strategy for controlling these NTDs, targeting vulnerable populations like school-age children. Despite some successes, challen

BACKGROUND: Expanding the health workforce to increase the availability of skilled birth attendants (SBAs) presents an opportunity to expand the power and well-being of frontline health workers. The role of the SBA holds enormous potential to transform the relationship between women, birthing caregivers, and the broader health care delivery system. This paper will present a novel approach to the community-based skilled birth attendant (SBA) role, the Skilled Health Entrepreneur (SHE) program implemented in rural Sylhet District, Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: The health risks associated with poor medication practices in the home suggest that patients would benefit from home-based medication reviews that could detect and resolve these issues. However, remuneration for home visits often excludes ambulatory, nonhomebound patients. A subset of these patients have issues that cannot be adequately identified and resolved during the course of a typical pharmacy-based medication review.
PURPOSE: This study aims to characterize the prevalence and nature of "hidden in the home" medication management issues in nonhomebound patients.

BACKGROUND: Since 2007 Sierra Leone has conducted mass drug administration (MDA) for the elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF) implemented by unpaid community health volunteers (CHVs). Other health campaigns such as Mother and Child Health Weeks (MCHW) pay for services to be implemented at community level and these persons are then known as community health workers (CHWs). In 2010, the LF MDA in the 12 districts of the Southern, Northern and Eastern Provinces un-expectantly coincided with universal distribution of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITNs) during the MCHW. BACKGROUND: Delayed clearance of Plasmodium falciparum parasites is used as an operational indicator of potential artemisinin resistance. Effective community-based systems to detect P. falciparum cases remaining positive 72 hours after initiating treatment would be valuable for guiding case follow-up in areas of known resistance risk and for detecting areas of emerging resistance.
METHODS: Systems incorporating existing networks of village malaria workers (VMWs) to monitor day three-positive P. falciparum cases were piloted in three provinces in western Cambodia. Quantitative and qualitative

INTRODUCTION: The Arab region is experiencing substantial outward migration amid persistent healthcare workforce shortages. However, reported prevalence estimates and reasons vary considerably across studies. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of migration intentions among medical trainees in the Arab region and summarize the reported drivers of migration using the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) framework.
METHODS: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science in April 2026, supplemented by backward and forward citation searching. Studies were eligible if they reported di

BACKGROUND: Despite ongoing malaria control efforts, barriers such as delayed diagnosis, poor quality treatment and out-of-pocket expenditure persist. This study explores healthcare providers' knowledge, perceptions and practice of malaria control interventions to optimise strategies.
METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted between December 2022 and March 2023. Data were collected in nine health districts through 63 individual interviews and 18 focus groups involving healthcare providers. The Clark and Braun thematic approach was used to categorise key ideas into subthemes and themes, incl

Background/Objectives: In Kuwait, a marked decline in the number of quality nurses has been observed; however, the factors underpinning their intention to leave have never been investigated. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of turnover intention among quality nurses in Kuwait, describe the reported reasons for leaving, and explore the organizational and personal experiences underlying their intentions. Methods: A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was used. The quantitative phase involved a total population survey of all eligible quality nurses working in public hospitals

BACKGROUND: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience significant health disparities relative to non-Indigenous Australians. Notwithstanding growing policy recognition of the link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals and improved community health outcomes, their representation remains below parity in medical practice. This is particularly evident in general practice, where the general practitioner (GP) workforce shortfall intensifies nationally, and GP roles have become the hardest to fill across Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.

INTRODUCTION: While Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is a key element of research best practice across healthcare, the co-design process for digital health interventions (DHIs) remains under-reported. This study explores the co-design process of the i-Minds DHI, developed for young people exposed to technology-assisted sexual abuse (TASA), with a focus on advancing PPIE in DHI development. The research team collaborated with a Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) to co-design the intervention, detailing activities, experiences, benefits, challenges and priorities identifi

BACKGROUND: Previous literature demonstrates that female surgeons face difficulties in family planning, meeting breastfeeding goals, leadership and advancement opportunities. These issues have received limited attention in Canadian surgeons despite different maternity leave patterns compared to the general Canadian population. We sought to describe the experience of otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeons in family planning, fertility, and lactation and to identify the role of gender and career stage in these experiences.
METHODS: A RedCAP® survey was disseminated to Canadian otolaryngology-h

BackgroundSignificant challenges remain in the early identification of child developmental disabilities in the community. Implementing supports and services early in the life course has been shown to promote positive developmental outcomes for children at high likelihood of developmental disabilities, including autism. As part of a cluster randomised controlled trial, this study seeks to examine and compare the perspectives and experiences of Australian general practitioners (GPs) in relation to a digital developmental surveillance program for autism and usual care pathway, in general practice

AIM: To investigate attitudes and approaches of UK primary care dentists to carrying out vital pulp treatment (VPT) after carious exposure and with additional signs and symptoms indicative of irreversible pulpitis.
METHODOLOGY: An electronic questionnaire was openly distributed via publicly funded (NHS) local dental committees, corporate dental service-providers, professional societies and social media. Principally NHS practitioners and those from mixed and private practice were targeted, in addition to community and military dental officers, and dental therapists. Participants were asked que

BACKGROUND: Developing new medicines relies on the successful conduct of clinical trials. As trial protocols become more arduous, it becomes harder to recruit and retain patient volunteers, although recent efforts such as OMERACT and I-SPY2 show that partnering with patients can be beneficial. We sought to describe drivers and barriers to trial participation, as well as condition-specific trial preferences.
METHODS: An online survey was fielded via the patient-powered research network PatientsLikeMe to 1,621 members living with nine selected chronic health conditions. Questions included demog

BACKGROUND: Research has shown the potential for community pharmacies to promote better health and prevent disease by providing individual services in a limited range of settings. In the UK, the healthy living pharmacy (HLP) framework has been developed to allow pharmacies to provide a portfolio of such services tailored to local need. This paper reports an evaluation of the uptake and success of HLP introduction in Portsmouth, the original pathfinder site for a national program.
OBJECTIVES: To assesses the impact on service provision and staff engagement at an early stage in HLP program deve
