Guidelines for the use of topical oxygen therapy in the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds based on a Delphi consensus.

A growing body of evidence supports the use of topical oxygen therapy (TOT) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). In addition, anecdotal evidence suggests that topical oxygen may be effective in the treatment of other wound types. In May 2021, experts in the field of wound healing from across the US assembled in New Orleans for the inaugural Leaders in Wound Healing conference. In an interactive session dedicated to TOT, several physicians presented and debated the evidence for TOT. Experts in the audience also shared their experiences in treating patients with TOT. The consensus of

Understanding fathers' perinatal mental health and well-being support needs: a qualitative study of fathers' and professionals' perspectives in North East England and North Cumbria, UK.

OBJECTIVES: The transition into fatherhood is considered a profound life stage, involving personal development, lifestyle and emotional adjustments. Fathers' mental health can be adversely impacted by this transition. Fathers express isolation, exclusion and limited support within perinatal services. Restricted emotional support for fathers presents negative consequences for the whole family dynamic. Limited research has explored father and professional input associated with paternal perinatal support and how healthcare services and child and family services can respond to engaging fathers and

Medical training in child maltreatment.

Training of medical professionals about child maltreatment may provide useful insights into the means of incorporating violence detection and prevention into healthcare practice. Despite major progress since Caffey and Kempe identified child abuse as a medical issue, more needs to be done to ensure that proper recognition, diagnostic, and reporting strategies are used when faced with the possible abuse and neglect of children. Systematic data concerning training programs are lacking. The perceived needs include more consistent education for medical professionals, more federal support for clini

A commentary on studies of brain iron accumulation during ageing.

Brain iron content is widely reported to increase during "ageing", across multiple species from nematodes, rodents (mice and rats) and humans. Given the redox-active properties of iron, there has been a large research focus on iron-mediated oxidative stress as a contributor to tissue damage during natural ageing, and also as a risk factor for neurodegenerative disease. Surprisingly, however, the majority of published studies have not investigated brain iron homeostasis during the biological time period of senescence, and thus knowledge of how brain homeostasis changes during this critical stag

Clinical trials in adult respiratory distress syndrome.

The need for randomized clinical trials in adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is now recognized. With this recognition comes the need for researchers to implement proper trial design and for the clinician to be able to interpret results as they apply to clinical practice. The heterogeneity of ARDS as related to etiology, stage, and severity creates the potential for maldistribution of patients in the clinical trial. Likewise, a particular intervention may benefit or not benefit a patient based on these variables. Choosing a minimum of end-points (ideally one) for hypothesis testing is

"After radiation sessions, I sometimes feel weak and dizzy'': Experiences of Ghanaian women with breast cancer post radiotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer remains one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality among females worldwide. Despite the advancement of several treatment options such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy to tackle this disease, several women still refuse these allopathic treatment options due to adverse effects posed by these treatment modalities which usually remain poorly identified and managed particularly in low-resourced-constrained settings like those in Sub-Saharan Africa. AIM: We explored the experiences of Ghanaian women with breast cancer being nursed after undergoing radiot

Caring amid crisis: a qualitative study of caregivers' experiences, wellbeing, and support for older adults.

BACKGROUND: Unpaid caregivers are a critical yet structurally under-recognized component of health and social care systems, providing essential support to older adults living with chronic illness, frailty, and complex care needs. Although caregiving challenges predate COVID-19, the pandemic intensified reliance on unpaid care and exposed persistent gaps in system coordination, service access, and caregiver support. This study examines how unpaid caregivers in Ontario, Canada, retrospectively understand caregiving during and following this period, with attention to how health and social care sy
