Medical practitioners' awareness and practices regarding bisphosphonate therapy and oral health risks: a Malaysian cross‑sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Bisphosphonates are widely prescribed for osteoporosis, Paget's disease, and malignancy-related bone disease. While effective in reducing skeletal complications, they are associated with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), a serious but preventable condition. Medical practitioners play a central role in initiating therapy, educating patients, and coordinating referrals, yet data on awareness and practices in Malaysia remain limited. OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the awareness, prescribing practices, and perceived roles of medical practitioners at a university hos

Outpatient CAR T-Cell Therapy as Standard of Care: Current Perspectives and Considerations.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T) has altered the treatment landscape of several hematologic malignancies. Until recently, most CAR-T infusions have been administered in the inpatient setting, due to their toxicity profile. However, the advent of new product constructs, as well as improved detection and management of adverse effects, have greatly increased the safety in administering these therapies. CAR-T indications continue to expand, and inpatient administration is associated with increased healthcare resource utilization and overall cost. Therefore, transitioning CAR-T admi

Advances and development of prostate cancer, treatment, and strategies: A systemic review.

The most common type of cancer in the present-day world affecting modern-day men after lung cancer is prostate cancer. Prostate cancer remains on the list of top three cancer types claiming the highest number of male lives. An estimated 1.4 million new cases were reported worldwide in 2020. The incidence of prostate cancer is found predominantly in the regions having a high human development index. Despite the fact that considerable success has been achieved in the treatment and management of prostate cancer, it remains a challenge for scientists and clinicians to curve the speedy advancement

Selinexor, bortezomib, and dexamethasone versus bortezomib and dexamethasone in previously treated multiple myeloma: Outcomes by cytogenetic risk.

In the phase 3 BOSTON study, patients with multiple myeloma (MM) after 1-3 prior regimens were randomized to once-weekly selinexor (an oral inhibitor of exportin 1 [XPO1]) plus bortezomib-dexamethasone (XVd) or twice-weekly bortezomib-dexamethasone (Vd). Compared with Vd, XVd was associated with significant improvements in median progression-free survival (PFS), overall response rate (ORR), and lower rates of peripheral neuropathy, with trends in overall survival (OS) favoring XVd. In BOSTON, 141 (35.1%) patients had MM with high-risk (presence of del[17p], t[4;14], t[14;16], or ≥4 copies of a

A qualitative study of cancer survivors' exercise behaviour 4 months after a telerehabilitation program.

PURPOSE: Although telerehabilitation can improve access to exercise programs for cancer survivors, it is not known if these programs lead to ongoing change in exercise habits. This study explored participant experiences of exercise 4 months after finishing specialized cancer exercise-based telerehabilitation. METHOD: A qualitative study embedded in a randomized controlled trial evaluated exercise-based cancer telerehabilitation delivered in groups. Data were collected via semistructured interviews that were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Seventeen adult cancer survivors (age 21 to 8

Facilitators and barriers to provision of hospital in the home: does geographical location matter? A scoping review.

BackgroundThere is an increasing imperative for hospital services delivered in the home due to overburdened hospital systems, ageing populations and rising prevalence of chronic disease. Hospital in the home services have numerous advantages including reduced mortality, reduced hospital readmission and emergency department presentations and improved patient quality of life. Despite anticipated benefits for rural communities, which typically experience high prevalence of chronic disease and high rates of potentially avoidable hospitalisation, there appears to be limited research that focusses s

Multiple myeloma: patient outcomes in real-world practice.

With increasing number of therapies available for the treatment of multiple myeloma, it is timely to examine the course of patients' journeys. We investigated patient characteristics, treatment durations and outcomes, and symptom burden across the treatment pathway in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. In total, 435 physicians retrospectively reviewed 4997 patient charts. Profiles of patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma during the last 12 months were similar across countries; bone pain was the most common presentation. Median duration of first-line therapy was

A roadmap for establishing institutional readiness for cellular therapies targeting solid tumours and autoimmune diseases.

Adoptive cellular therapies have revolutionised treatment of haematological malignancies and demonstrate potential in solid tumours and autoimmune disease. Real-world implementation remains limited by biological, logistical, and manufacturing barriers, restricting global uptake despite a rapidly expanding clinical trial portfolio. Effective implementation requires national and institutional readiness, multidisciplinary collaboration, scalable manufacturing, and robust infrastructure. Efforts should prioritise decentralised and "off the shelf" platforms, integrated referral networks, and AI-ass

Central Venous Access Device Complications and Premature Removal in Patients With Haematological Malignancies: A Multi-Site Cohort Study.

BackgroundPatients with haematological malignancies require urgent and reliable venous access for the administration of systemic anticancer therapies (SACTs) commonly via central venous access devices (CVADs). Disease pathophysiology and side effects of SACTs increase the risk of complications during the dwell time and premature removal. CVAD complications are associated with treatment disruption, increased morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to comprehensively describe CVAD performance over a 12-month period in patients with haematological malignancies.MethodsA multi-site cohort study a

First-year treatment response predicts the following 5-year disease course in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

Predicting long-term prognosis and choosing the appropriate therapeutic approach in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the time of diagnosis is crucial in view of a personalized medicine. We investigated the impact of early therapeutic response on the 5-year prognosis of patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS). We recruited patients from MSBase Registry covering the period between 1996 and 2022. All patients were diagnosed with RRMS and actively followed-up for at least 5 years to explore the following outcomes: clinical relapses, confirmed disability worsening (CDW) and improvement

Combating challenges in CAR-T cells with engineering immunology.

Chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) T cells (CAR-T) mark a significant step towards producing safe and effective personal anticancer treatments. CAR-T strategies engineers the T cells from the patients to allow specific binding to a tumour-specific antigen. CAR-Ts are a second-wave offensive strategy to clear out remaining chemotherapy-resistant tumour cells. Though showing practical antitumor abilities in multiple haematological malignancies and solid tumour cancers, the issues of antigen escape, tumour infiltration/penetration, and toxicity side effects limit the usage of prolonged CAR-T therap

Methods for measuring financial toxicity after cancer diagnosis and treatment: a systematic review and its implications.

Patients experiencing financial distress as a side-effect of cancer are not only reported in the United States, but also in third-party payer healthcare systems in Europe. Since validated survey instruments are a prerequisite for robust and comparable results, we aimed to compile and classify available instruments to enable both a better understanding of the underlying construct of financial toxicity and to facilitate further studies that are adjustable to various healthcare systems. We did a systematic literature search on studies that provide data on perceived cancer-related financial distre
