Multidomain evaluation and data-driven approaches to predict recurrent neck pain (END-RNP): a study protocol for a multicentre prospective longitudinal cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Neck pain (NP) is a leading cause of disability worldwide and affects more than 200 million people. Incidence and associated economic burden are constantly increasing, and little is known about the factors that promote new and more severe episodes in those individuals with recurrent NP. Current evidence supports that changes in physical, psychological and social factors persist between NP episodes, and these changes might contribute to the development of new episodes. The End Recurrent Neck Pain (END-RNP) study aims to use physical, psychological and social factors tested while i

Webcam-Based Real-Time Visual Feedback During Baduanjin Practice in Older Adults: 6-Week Pilot Randomized Study.

BACKGROUND: Baduanjin qigong is a traditional mind-body exercise used to support balance and physical health in older adults. Age-related changes in proprioception may make accurate self-directed performance difficult without external guidance. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to explore whether webcam-based real-time visual feedback delivered during supervised laboratory sessions was associated with differences in webcam-derived 2D pose discrepancy and movement consistency during Baduanjin practice in older adults. METHODS: A total of 31 older adults were enrolled, and 28 participants wi

Risk Factors for Contra-Lateral Secondary Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The risk of sustaining a contra-lateral anterior cruciate ligament (C-ACL) injury after primary unilateral ACL injury is high. C-ACL injury often contributes to a further decline in function and quality of life, including failure to return to sport. There is, however, very limited knowledge about which risk factors that contribute to C-ACL injury. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review instrinsic risk factors for sustaining a C-ACL injury. METHODS: A systematic review with meta-analysis was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

Acute Effects of Contract-Relax PNF With and Without Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation on Hamstring Flexibility and Jump Performance in Adolescent Soccer Players: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

The additional value of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) during contract-relax proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF-CR) stretching remains unclear, particularly in adolescent athletes. It is also unknown whether combining PNF-CR with motor-threshold NMES improves hamstring flexibility more than a sensory-threshold comparator without impairing vertical jump performance. # Purpose To compare the acute effects of PNF-CR combined with motor-threshold NMES versus sensory-threshold NMES on hamstring flexibility and to assess the impact of both interventions on vertical jump perf

Effects of semi-independent bedside rehabilitation of the upper limb assisted with a mobile wrist-hand exoneuromusculoskeleton (ENMS) for inpatients with subacute stroke: a randomized controlled trial (RCT).

BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted rehabilitation has been used to release the labor burden in manual practice for early stroke rehabilitation. However, its broader application is constrained by high costs, limited accessibility, and high dependence on professional operation. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of semi-independent, bedside upper limb rehabilitation assisted by a wrist-hand exoneuromusculoskeleton (WH-ENMS) for individuals with subacute stroke via a randomized controlled trial compared with the outcomes achieved by conventional therapy and training progr

The body before the dance somatic codification, elemental self-regulation, and contemplative recognition in the Naṭarāja tradition.

This article introduces the Somatic Codification Hypothesis (SCH), a theoretical framework that models the karaṇa system of the Nāṭyaśāstra-the foundational Sanskrit treatise on performance-as a systematic codification of pre-reflective, stimulus-driven bodily responses, alongside, rather than in place of, its established expressive, devotional, and aesthetic readings. The claim advanced here is epistemic and functional, not ontological: I do not argue that the body generates culture, nor that historical practitioners worked outward from physiology to notation. Rather, I argue that treating th

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Repair With Internal Bracing Augmentation.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries has rapidly increased, and patients with ACL injuries frequently have concomitant meniscal pathologies. Given the advantages in restoring patient anatomy, retaining proprioceptive fibers, and eliminating risks of donor site morbidity, ACL repair has reemerged as a treatment option for indicated patients. For proximal tears, augmentation of the native ACL with an internal brace has been thought to reinforce ligament strength, facilitate improved ligamentization, and have a protective effect as a secondary stabilizer. As such

Are dorsal column deficits inevitable in intramedullary spine tumor resection?

OBJECTIVE: The rate of dorsal column deficit after intramedullary spine tumor resection remains unknown. In a cohort of patients undergoing posterior intramedullary spinal tumor resection, the authors sought to 1) report the rate of dorsal column deficits, 2) report the rate of new motor deficits, and 3) determine risk factors and recovery characteristics for both deficits. METHODS: A single-institution, retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing posterior intramedullary spinal cord tumor resection was performed from 2010 to 2020. Primary and metastatic cord tumors were included; cauda

Uneven Treadmill Training for Rehabilitation of Lateral Ankle Sprains and Chronic Ankle Instability: Protocol for a Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Lateral ankle sprains (LASs) are common injuries among military service members. Approximately 40% of individuals with an LAS progress to develop chronic ankle instability (CAI), a condition that results in substantial mechanical and neurophysiological impairment and activity limitation. Since proprioceptive and balance training improve functional outcomes and prevent secondary injury following LAS, they are recommended in clinical practice. Uneven treadmills are an innovative modality that challenge the sensorimotor system while performing an ecologically valid task simulating env

No Evidence for a Role of Spatially Modulated α-Band Activity in Tactile Remapping and Short-Latency, Overt Orienting Behavior.

Oscillatory α-band activity is commonly associated with spatial attention and multisensory prioritization. It has also been suggested to reflect the automatic transformation of tactile stimuli from a skin-based, somatotopic reference frame into an external one. Previous research has not convincingly separated these two possible roles of α-band activity. Previous experimental paradigms have used artificially long delays between tactile stimuli and behavioral responses to aid relating oscillatory activity to these different events. However, this strategy potentially blurs the temporal relationsh

Computer simulation of lumbar flexion shows shear of the facet capsular ligament.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: The lumbar facet capsular ligament (FCL) is a posterior spinal ligament with a complex structure and kinematic profile. The FCL has a curved geometry, multiple attachment sites, and preferentially aligned collagen fiber bundles on the posterior surface that are innervated with mechanoreceptive nerve endings. Spinal flexion induces three-dimensional (3D) deformations, requiring the FCL to maintain significant tensile and shear loads. Previous works aimed to study 3D facet joint kinematics during flexion, but to our knowledge none have reported localized FCL surface deformati

Treatment of acute lateral ankle ligament rupture in the athlete. Conservative versus surgical treatment.

Acute lateral ankle ligament sprains are common in young athletes (15 to 35 years of age). Diagnostic and treatment protocols vary. Therapies range from cast immobilisation or acute surgical repair to functional rehabilitation. The lateral ligament complex includes 3 capsular ligaments: the anterior tibiofibular (ATFL), calcaneofibular (CFL) and posterior talofibular (PTFL) ligaments. Injuries typically occur during plantar flexion and inversion; the ATFL is most commonly torn. The CFL and the PTFL can also be injured and, after severe inversion, subtalar joint ligaments are also affected. Com
