[Comparative analysis of tissue reaction to acrylic resin materials in studies on Wistar strain rats].

The study takes up the issue of assessing rat tissue reaction to operatively inserted implants of different acrylic resin materials used in prosthetic dentistry. The materials subjected to analysis were polyacrylics: Vertex Soft, Vertex R.S., Vertex S.C., Superacryl and silicone material Molloplast B. The prolongation of life and the dynamic development of prosthetic treatment have caused removable dentures to be used longer and among more people. Polymerised acrylic resin material of these dentures is a potential pathogenic factor to the oral cavity mucosa which is in contact with it. As many

Evaluating Case-Based Learning to Enhance Dental Student Performance in Cavity Preparation: A Pilot Study.

Background The transition from theoretical knowledge to clinical competency in operative dentistry is an ongoing challenge in dental education. Undergraduate students often face a significant gap between understanding theory and applying practical skills for diagnosing and preparing cavities, which leads to decreased confidence, increased stress, and potential errors in clinical practice. Case-based learning (CBL), an active learning strategy that emphasizes real-world scenarios, has shown promise for improving clinical skills and knowledge retention in other healthcare disciplines. This pilot

Comparison of the Efficacy of Midazolam and Dexmedetomidine As Sedative Agents in Third Molar Surgery.

Introduction Minor dental and oral surgical procedures have been made comfortable with the rise in the use of daycare sedatives. Of these sedatives, midazolam is deemed a common sedative used for minor oral surgical procedures. Newer and safer sedatives such as dexmedetomidine have certain properties that may prove more efficient in oral surgical procedures. Third molar surgery is one of the most common minor oral surgical procedures performed in dentistry. Thus, this study aims to compare the efficacy of midazolam and dexmedetomidine as sedative agents in third molar surgery. Materials and me

Advanced restorative dentistry - a problem for the elderly? An ethical dilemma.

The type of dental restorations taken into old age may have an adverse effect on the quality of life of the elderly. Root caries and dry mouth increase in prevalence with age and may precipitate the breakdown of remaining natural and restored teeth. At present the availability of dental personnel and facilities in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) is limited, often non-existent, and the elderly living at home may be unable to easily gain access to dental care. Thus, the provision of appropriate and timely dental treatment may not occur, resulting in prolonged pain and suffering. It is i

The safety and efficacy of intranasal midazolam sedation combined with inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen in paediatric dental patients as an alternative to general anaesthesia.

INTRODUCTION: Conscious Decision' was published in 2000 by the Department of Health, effectively ending the provision of dental general anaesthesia (DGA) outside the hospital environment. Other aspects of dental anxiety and behavioural management and sedation techniques were encouraged before the decision to refer for a DGA was reached. Although some anxious children may be managed with relative analgesia (RA), some may require different sedation techniques for dentists to accomplish dental treatment. Little evidence has been published in the UK to support the use of alternative sedation techn

An explainable and transparent machine learning approach for predicting dental caries: a cross-national validation study.

BACKGROUND: There has been a notable increase in artificial intelligence (AI) studies in dentistry. However, the inadequate use of proper validation methods has led to overly optimistic performance metrics of machine learning (ML) models. External validation provides evidence of a ML model's performance with independent datasets and is crucial for generalizability. METHODS: We developed Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) models to detect dental caries using easy-to-collect questionnaire data. ML model training was conducted using cross-validation nested resampling with a holdout test set, ut

Assessment of rewarming time in teeth with pulpitis using infrared thermography: A cross-sectional, observational study.

CONTEXT: Early and accurate differentiation between reversible and irreversible pulpitis is vital for appropriate treatment planning and prognosis in pediatric patients. Conventional sensibility tests are subjective and assess neural response rather than true pulpal vitality, which is determined by blood flow. Infrared thermography offers a noninvasive, contactless technique to measure surface temperature recovery, potentially reflecting pulpal vascular status. AIMS: The study aimed to compare thermographic rewarming time between teeth with reversible pulpitis and healthy controls, irreversib

Knowledge, Perceptions, and Expectations of Dental Anesthesia Among Patients Attending the College of Dentistry Clinic in Hail, Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Anesthesia is unique because it is not a direct means of treatment; rather, it allows other physicians to do things that may treat, diagnose, or cure an ailment, which would otherwise be painful or complicated. In the preoperative period, there are a lot of goals of preparation, but one of the most important is to eliminate anxiety. The current study aims to assess the patients' knowledge regarding the anesthetist's role and their knowledge about dental anesthesia. METHODS: It is a sectional questionnaire prepared at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hail University, Hail, Saudi Arabia.
