Genetic diversity and population structure of Coffea arabica in Saudi Arabia revealed by whole-genome resequencing.

Gene banks are essential for conserving plant genetic resources, yet limited genomic characterization constrains their effective use in breeding. Coffea arabica L., an economically important crop in Saudi Arabia, remains poorly characterized at the genome-wide level. We performed whole-genome resequencing of 78 Saudi C. arabica accessions conserved at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) Seed Center and PGR Bank, generating 86 sequencing libraries, including eight technical replicates. Reads were aligned to the Cara_r6 reference genome, yielding 468, 133 variants (412, 043

Genetic susceptibility to respiratory health effects from outdoor air pollution: a structured narrative review.

Outdoor air pollution exposure is a well-established driver of respiratory disease, while growing evidence highlights an important role for genetic susceptibility. Building on this expanding body of work, our review synthesises findings across studies and provides an integrated overview. Here, we present a structured literature review summarising study characteristics and statistically significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) reported in gene-environment interaction studies of air pollution related respiratory outcomes. By consolidating this evidence, the review clarifies current fin

The role of endocrine dysfunction in pregnancy loss and the modulating influence of genetic factors: A structured narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy loss, including recurrent cases, is a common problem for couples worldwide, with serious medical and emotional effects. While many factors can cause pregnancy loss, hormonal imbalances stand out as the main, treatable reason. Genetics rarely causes pregnancy loss by itself, but it can affect hormone pathways and explain differences in risk among populations. OBJECTIVE: This review looks at how key hormone-related conditions-like thyroid problems, PCOS with insulin resistance, luteal phase defects, poorly controlled diabetes, and high prolactin-raise the risk of miscarria

Mating System and Fine-Scale Spatial Genetic Structure of the Tropical Epiphytic Orchid Rhynchostylis gigantea.

Habitat fragmentation caused by human activities threatens plant genetic diversity, but the mechanisms shaping gene flow and spatial genetic structure in epiphytic orchids remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated the genetic structure and gene flow patterns of the epiphytic orchid Rhynchostylis gigantea in a human-modified landscape on Hainan Island, China, using SNP markers. Based on 2005 high-quality SNPs generated via double-digest restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (ddRADseq) from 275 individuals, we assessed genetic diversity, population differentiation, and fine-scale spat

Genetic diversity and population structure of the Dermacentor nuttalli in Northern China inferred from microsatellite markers.

BACKGROUND: Dermacentor nuttalli is a dominant tick species in northern China and adjacent regions, where it poses significant threats to public health and the livestock industry through the transmission of diverse zoonotic pathogens. Understanding its population genetic structure is crucial for elucidating dispersal patterns and informing control strategies. However, the lack of high-resolution molecular markers has hindered such investigations. This study aimed to develop microsatellite markers and use them to assess the genetic diversity and structure of D. nuttalli populations across north

Complex genetic structural aberrations revealed by optical genome mapping in a case of APL-like morphology.

We present a detailed cytogenomic analysis from a patient with suspected acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), based on morphological and immunophenotypic characteristics. Initial testing with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and chromosome analysis was negative for the canonical PML::RARA and other RARA partners translocations. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) did not detect PML::RARA transcripts. However, chromosome analysis results revealed loss of 5q and 17p, as well as the presence of double minutes (dmin). To further assess the involvement of other retinoic acid receptor (RAR) part

Using genomic structural equation modeling to examine the genetic architecture of PTSD and life satisfaction phenotypes.

Objective: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and life satisfaction phenotypes are inversely related on a phenotypic level. Given these established relations, researchers have begun to examine possible shared genetic contributions to these outcomes, though the existing genetic literature is sparse and examines these relations via univariate methods. We sought to examine the genetic architecture of PTSD and six life satisfaction and well-being phenotypes (i.e. subjective well-being, friend satisfaction, life satisfaction, family satisfaction, work satisfaction, and financial satisfaction) usi

Neuroimaging-genetic integration reveals shared structural and functional brain alterations in major depressive disorder.

BACKGROUND: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is linked to widespread disruptions in brain structure and function. Nevertheless, the extent to which structural and functional abnormalities overlap in MDD, and whether they share a common genetic basis, remains largely unclear. METHODS: We performed voxel-wise meta-analyses to identify structural alterations in gray matter volume (GMV) and functional changes using regional homogeneity (ReHo) and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF). MDD-associated genes were prioritized using the H-MAGMA framework with large-scale genome-wide associatio

Population structure, gene flow and genetic diversity of sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina dorsalis) in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Flystrike (cutaneous myiasis) is caused by blowfly larvae of the genus Lucilia. This disease is a major obstacle to sustainable global sheep and wool production. Flystrike control relies primarily on breech modification surgery (mulesing) and insecticidal treatment; however, control is constantly compromised by the emergence and spread of insecticide-resistance. Preventing the spread of resistance is severely hindered by a limited understanding of genetic variation, structure and gene flow within and among Lucilia populations. Australia is one of the world's largest producers of sh

Genetic structure of Bithynia snails and its implications for targeted control of opisthorchiasis in the Lower Mekong Subregion.

Recent findings by Bunchom et al. reveal distinct mitochondrial lineages of Bithynia siamensis goniomphalos in Champasak, Laos, with important implications for Opisthorchis viverrini transmission. The identification of lineage II, with high haplotype diversity and habitat-specific distribution, underscores the role of snail genetics in shaping local disease dynamics. Drawing parallels from Thailand's successful One Health intervention, this correspondence advocates for integrating lineage-informed mapping and surveillance into regional control programs. Broader genetic monitoring of Bithynia s

Human genetic structure in Northwest France provides new insights into West European historical demography.

The demographical history of France remains largely understudied despite its central role toward understanding modern population structure across Western Europe. Here, by exploring publicly available Europe-wide genotype datasets together with the genomes of 3234 present-day and six newly sequenced medieval individuals from Northern France, we found extensive fine-scale population structure across Brittany and the downstream Loire basin and increased population differentiation between the northern and southern sides of the river Loire, associated with higher proportions of steppe vs. Neolithic
