Barriers and facilitators of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake and use in Canada: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Despite extensive efforts in HIV prevention, significant barriers to accessing interventions such as HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) persist in Canada. Although PrEP has demonstrated efficacy in preventing HIV transmission, various structural, social and systemic factors continue to impede its widespread adoption and use. These factors influence the uptake (acceptance and access) and use (adherence and retention) of PrEP. The purpose of this scoping review is to examine the existing body of evidence regarding the barriers and facilitators to uptake and use of PrEP in Canada.

Framework for systems of pediatric well-care visits: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Despite decades of global efforts to reduce under five mortality, 5 million children die before their fifth birthday. Numerous landmark reports have called for integrated approaches to further accelerate reductions, yet interventions are often delivered in silos and, to our knowledge, no global synthesis of the evidence for integrated preventive systems exists. We conducted a scoping review to map the existing literature on systems of well-care visits for children under five years from 2000 to 2023 globally. METHOD: A systematic search of relevant databases (MEDLINE, the Cochrane

Interventions to improve the quality of low back pain care in emergency departments: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Low back pain (LBP) is a common reason people visit Emergency Departments (ED). However, the care provided is often not aligned with guideline recommendations. Despite increasing research aiming to promote guideline-based care in EDs, interventions to best implement recommendations are unknown. This study aimed to identify ED LBP implementation interventions that have been trialed and evaluate their effects on ED-relevant outcomes. A systematic review and meta-analysis, including studies that evaluated interventions to improve the quality of care provided to adults presenting to ED with LBP. D

Effectiveness of integrating cervical cancer prevention strategies into HIV care programmes: A mixed-methods systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer, which is the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer among women globally, remains a significant health burden despite being preventable and treatable, exposing gaps in accessing prevention and control services. Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) living with HIV face heightened risk of persistent HPV infection, a primary cause of cervical cancer, making this population the ideal target for preventing cervical cancer before HPV exposure or disease progression. The overlap of cervical cancer and HIV exacerbates public health challenges, urging intensified effo

Prevalence of female sexual dysfunction and associated factors among women in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta- analysis.

BACKGROUND: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a common yet under-recognized component of women’s reproductive health, particularly in low-income settings where sexual health is rarely addressed in routine care. It is associated with adverse physical, psychological, and social consequences that negatively affect women’s quality of life and intimate relationships. In Ethiopia, existing studies are limited in number and methodologically heterogeneous, with widely varying prevalence estimates and inconsistent reporting of associated factors. Therefore, a comprehensive synthesis of the available e

Use of the Maslach Burnout Inventory Among Public Health Care Professionals: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Work can be considered a source of living, well-being, and socioeconomic development. When the work environment negatively influences individuals, it may trigger emotional disturbances, behavioral problems, chronic stress conditions, and illnesses such as burnout syndrome (BS). Recently, studies on BS have increased and placed a special focus on health care professionals. The prevalence of BS among health professionals is associated with their chronic exposure to human hardship and long working hours without proper rest. These factors have contributed to greater stress and high phy

How women's experiences and perceptions of care influence uptake of postnatal care across sub-Saharan Africa: a qualitative systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The burden of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality is a global health concern with the highest burden documented after childbirth in women and babies living in sub-Saharan Africa. To date, there is limited information on the quality of postnatal care and/or whether evidence-based interventions to improve postnatal care in a way that meets the specific health needs of each mother and her baby have been lacking. There is also limited data related to how quality of care (respectful or disrespectful) influences women's decision to access postnatal care. OBJECTIVE: To systemat

Exploring the Role of Spirituality in Neuropalliative Care: An Integrative Review.

Neuropalliative care aims to address the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of persons with progressive and life-limiting neurological conditions, while spiritual care fosters hope and meaning in life. Progressive neurological disorders with an uncertain disease trajectory present a set of complex challenges that have far-reaching consequences on the patient's self-belief, questioning the very existence, self-identity, and belongingness. A typical neuropalliative care team consists of neurologists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and spiritual care providers. Previous r
