Although there have been many studies on the prevalence of goiters in Taiwanese school children, the goiter prevalence in Taiwanese adults is unknown. This is a preliminary study of the prevalence of goiter in adults admitted for health examinations to the National Taiwan University Hospital. The thyroid glands of 1,020 adults were palpated. Laparoscopy, both diagnostic and therapeutic, has been used in the management of pediatric non-palpable testes. We report a case of left non-palpable testis at the unusual age of 18 years. Laparoscopic exploration revealed an intra-abdominal testis lying between the internal inguinal ring and external iliac vessels. The mammographic presentations of 300 consecutive nonpalpable breast cancers were analyzed to more clearly define the spectrum of radiographic signs needed to detect cancer at such an early stage. Clustered calcifications were the primary mammographic abnormality in 42% of cases, but only 23% demonstrated the rod, curvilinear, and branching shapes that are characteristic of malignancy. Myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) are localized, hypersensitive areas in muscles that can cause pain and reduced performance. This study aimed to compare the prevalence and location of MTrPs in show-jumping and dressage horses. INTRODUCTION: Ultrasonography is the easiest non-invasive method to diagnose lymph node metastases in patients with head and neck cancer. However, since CT scans are often preferred in the evaluation of primary tumours of these patients, information about lymphatic metastases may also available in these patients. Therefore, ultrasound is not routinely employed in the evaluation of these patients. However, elastography technique, a recent development in ultrasound technology, could make use of ultrasonography in these patients even more widespread, even though it is still not widely used today.

AIMS: To explore potential differences in characteristics of patients that might account for sex-specific differences in temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
METHODS: A total of 502 patients presenting with TMD during 2000 to 2002 at the Outpatient Unit for Functional Disorders of the Medical University of Vienna underwent detailed evaluation of their medical history and assessment of clinical findings. The data obtained were assessed for sex-specific differences by analysis of variance and multiple regression.
