A multi-stage multimodal learning model for functional outcomes prediction in acute ischemic stroke.

Predicting functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) remains challenging due to the complex and dynamic nature of disease progression. Existing methods typically rely on single-stage imaging or limited multimodal fusion, failing to fully capture disease progression and cross-modal complementarity. To address this issue, we propose a multimodal deep learning framework that integrates multi-stage imaging and clinical notes for 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) prediction. The proposed model leverages a shared foundation model with Low-Rank

An interpretable machine learning model for predicting stroke in patients with hypertension: insights from the SPRINT.

Stroke is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with hypertension being its most significant risk factor. However, few studies have specifically developed predictive models for stroke risk in hypertensive patients with elevated cardiovascular risk. This study aims to develop and validate an interpretable predictive model based on machine learning (ML) methods to assess stroke risk in hypertensive patients, enabling early prevention and improved prognosis. This study is a secondary analysis of the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT). Key clinical variables were identified by t

Design of a deep learning prediction model for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease using MRI images.

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are types of neurodegenerative diseases that affect the body and get worse over time. The cause of AD mainly involves the buildup of protein which are abnormal, issues with the immune reaction, death of neurons. Different from this, the death of the neurons that make dopamine leads to PD and causes both motor and non-motor problems. MRI images are used to provide an early and correct diagnosis to enable timely treatment planning and management of the disease. METHODS: In this paper, a design of an AI-based deep learning frame

Assessing machine learning prediction of recycled aggregate concrete strength with a tabular foundation model.

Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) supports more sustainable construction, but recycled concrete aggregate (RCA)'s heterogeneity complicates compressive-strength prediction. This study evaluates the Tabular Prior-data Fitted Network (TabPFN) against nine conventional machine-learning models using a standardized literature-derived database of 833 RAC mixtures. Cube strengths were converted to equivalent cylinder strengths, with conversion sensitivity also assessed. Among conventional models, CatBoost achieved the highest accuracy (R2 = 0.843), whereas TabPFN achieved R2 = 0.870, mean absolute er

Modeling and application of alzheimer's disease complex trait prediction based on multi-task learning.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a complex disorder influenced by genetic factors, and related phenotypes often share common genetic mechanisms. However, traditional genetic risk prediction models typically focus on a single phenotype, neglecting valuable cross-phenotype information. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of multi-task learning (MTL) in modeling genetic data for AD and to assess whether aggregating genetic signals at the gene level can further improve prediction accuracy. We applied two representative MTL models, including the Sluice Network and the Learning to Branch (LTB) m

Machine Learning Models for Posttransplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD) Risk Prediction in Thoracic Transplantation.

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is the second most common malignancy in thoracic transplant recipients and is associated with poor survival. Accurate risk prediction is essential for prevention and management. Adult (≥18 years) heart, lung, and heart-lung transplant recipients were extracted from the Scientific Registry of Transplant (SRTR) and the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) databases. A total of 160 donor and recipient pretransplant variables, including demographics, laboratory tests, induction therapy, and human leukocyte antigens (HLA), were analyzed. Risk sco

Hybrid feature selection with novel deep learning model for COVID-19 risk prediction.

In the past five years, the COVID-19 epidemic has created unparalleled difficulties throughout the world. The COVID-19 virus has not entirely disappeared all over the world, and it is still spreading with new transformations and new variants throughout the globe. Hence, the requirement of exact and appropriate risk prediction can emphasize the care of patients and effectively allocate the resources for improving their lifespan. The prediction of risk factors for COVID-19 is highly needed for minimizing these hazards. As a result, this work develops the Fuzzy-Deep Kronecker Network + Deep Recur

Use of machine learning models to predict mechanical ventilation, ECMO, and mortality in COVID-19.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with severe COVID-19 may require MV or ECMO. Predicting who will require interventions and the duration of those interventions are challenging due to the diverse responses among patients and the dynamic nature of the disease. As such, there is a need for better prediction of the duration and outcomes of MV use in patients, to improve patient care and aid with MV and ECMO allocation. Here we develop and examine the performance of ML models to predict MV duration, ECMO, and mortality for patients with COVID-19. METHODS: In this retrospective prognostic study, hierarchical

Machine learning prediction models for intravenous immunoglobulin resistance in Kawasaki disease: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is the standard initial treatment for Kawasaki disease (KD). However, approximately 20% of patients are resistant, who have a significantly increased risk of coronary artery lesions. Early prediction of IVIG resistance is crucial for improving outcomes, but traditional clinical scoring systems exhibit limited generalizability and limited predictive performance. OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the accuracy of machine learning (ML) models in predicting IVIG-resistant KD through meta-analysis, and provide evidence-based support for clinical appl

Genomic prediction in quinoa across contrasting environments using statistical and machine learning models.

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is gaining global importance for its nutritional value and adaptability; however, breeding progress remains limited. Genomic selection (GS), combined with rapid generation cycles, offers a strategy to accelerate genetic improvement. We conducted whole-genome resequencing of 610 accessions and present the first evaluation of genomic prediction in quinoa evaluated across six field trials in Australia and Pakistan for seven phenological and yield-related traits. Using ∼1.8 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms, we compared four models-genomic best linear unbia

Sensitivity of machine learning regression models to data structure and quality in crop yield prediction.

Accurate crop yield prediction is essential for agricultural planning, yet machine learning (ML) models remain highly sensitive to the quality and structure of input data. This study uses simulated datasets to systematically investigate how data structure (sample size and number of predictors), data imperfections (missing values and multicollinearity), and pre-processing methods (imputation techniques and principal component analysis) influence ML regression performance. The performance of ML-based models (RF, SVM, MLR, XGBoost, LightGBM, NNet, and kNN) on the pre-processed data was evaluated.

MultiCardioNet: A Multimodal Deep Learning Model for Early Cardiovascular Deterioration Prediction in ICU Patients.

Cardiovascular deterioration is a clinically important event in intensive care units, but early prediction remains challenging because risk may be reflected across structured clinical variables, physiological time series, and clinical text. In this work, we present MultiCardioNet, a multimodal deep learning framework for early prediction of a composite ICU deterioration endpoint using MIMIC-IV data. The prediction target was defined as vasopressor initiation and/or early death during the 24-72 h outcome window, making the task broader than mortality prediction alone but also related to treatme

Allosteric Pocket Prediction Based on Multi-modal Protein Language Models and Ensemble Learning.

Allosteric regulation plays a crucial role in modulating protein function, and allosteric pockets represent promising targets for drug discovery. However, identifying allosteric pockets remains challenging due to their structural and evolutionary diversity. In this study, we propose AlloPoc, a novel framework that integrates multi-modal protein language model (PLM) representations with biochemical features for accurate allosteric pocket prediction. Unlike existing PLM-based methods that rely exclusively on sequence-level features, AlloPoc leverages complementary sequence- and structure-based i

An interpretable machine-learning model for early prediction of acute kidney injury in polytrauma patients.

OBJECTIVE: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and clinically important complication after polytrauma, but early risk stratification remains challenging because conventional diagnostic criteria depend on delayed changes in serum creatinine and urine output. This study aimed to develop and interpret an early prediction model for incident AKI in adult ICU patients with polytrauma using routinely available data from the first 6 h after ICU admission. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational study using MIMIC-IV as the primary development and internal validation dataset. Incident A

Machine learning model for predicting interfraction motion of the seminal vesicles in prostate cancer radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer, inclusion of the seminal vesicles (SV) in the clinical target volume (CTV) is often complicated by considerable SV motion and deformation. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of predicting patient-specific SV motion using anatomical features surrounding the prostate on planning CT (pCT) images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Interfractional SV motion was quantified using five pretreatment cone-beam CT (CBCT) scans per patient from a cohort of 191 prostate cancer patients. Patients whose SV was not fully covered by

Machine learning-based quantitative structure-activity relationship model for antibiotic prediction and discovery.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a critical global health problem that has become increasingly alarming in recent years. The discovery of new antibiotics is one approach for alleviating AMR, however, screening for novel drugs is time consuming and expensive. To accelerate antibiotic discovery, the integration of machine learning algorithms with Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) calculations could provide a rapid solution. Thus, this study combines a QSAR model and machine learning algorithms to predict antibacterial activities of potential novel drugs based on chemical infor

Development and internal validation of a machine learning-based prediction model for pulmonary hypertension in COPD.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is frequently complicated by pulmonary hypertension (PH), which worsens prognosis, but early PH detection is limited by the invasiveness or suboptimal sensitivity of current diagnostic tools. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we analyzed 523 hospitalized patients with COPD from Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. After standardized preprocessing and recursive feature elimination, 18 routinely available noninvasive clinical and physiological variables were retained as predictors.
