The earlier finding of microhamartomatous rectal polyps in tuberous sclerosis (TSC)2 is detailed. These polyps are common, occurring in 14 of 18 (78%) patients with TSC in the present series, and they do not cause symptoms. Their distinctive appearance and distribution readily distinguish them from other types of rectal polyp and emphasize their importance as a potentially useful clinical marker of TSC.

Mucous cell proliferation in a periapical radicular cyst from a patient with a family history of colonic malignancies and multiple sebaceous neoplasms of the skin, so-called Muir-Torre syndrome, is reported. Such goblet cell hyperplasia has not been previously reported to be associated with any known syndrome. We believe the finding of mucous cell hyperplasia in an odontogenic cyst may not simply be coincidental, but should raise suspicion of paraneoplastic potential and warrant further evaluation for possible occult neoplastic disease.

Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid and adnexa commonly simulates other entities both clinically and pathologically. Between 1905 and 1981, 43 patients with sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid were seen at the Mayo Clinic. A 64-year-old man with Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS), a condition characterized by the association of multiple sebaceous tumours and kerato-acanthomas with internal malignancies, developed a carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater. This is the 2nd reported ampullary carcinoma in 205 reported cases of MTS, suggesting a higher prevalence in MTS patients than in the general population. As an ampullary carcinoma is potentially amenable to surgical resection, particularly when detected early, patients with MTS should undergo regular endoscopic surveillance of the ampulla of Vater.

We present a rare case of clonal seborrheic keratosis (SK) with focal Bowen disease (BD) (squamous cell carcinoma in situ) accompanied by sebaceous differentiation. An 89-year-old woman presented with a pale reddish-brown plaque on the left buttock. Extraocular sebaceous carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor, arising from skin and salivary glands. An important differential diagnosis in the head and neck region is metastasizing squamous cell carcinoma. Using case histories, the clinical and histological findings as well as the therapeutic principles of this entity are described. Only a few cases of this malignancy in the ENT area are published in the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Teratomas are rare neoplasms made up of mature embryonic germ cell layers. Extra-gonadal teratomas are rare and primarily in the mediastinum. Mature cystic teratomas (MCT) are slow-growing benign tumors accounting for a small number of mediastinal germ cell tumors.
