A reliable micro-CT-based method reveals dynamic changes to alveolar bone and tooth root following ligature-induced periodontal injury in the mouse.

This study presents a method development and evaluation framework for assessing longitudinally the dynamic alveolar bone changes in a murine periodontal injury model using 3D Slicer software. Accurate and reproducible measurement of bone loss is crucial for periodontal research, yet traditional two-dimensional (2D) histological approaches lack the ability to capture three-dimensional (3D) alterations, while inconsistencies in image alignment, region of interest (ROI) selection, and segmentation have limited the widespread adoption of 3D micro-CT analysis in small animal models. Here, we presen

Atp6i deficient mouse model uncovers transforming growth factor-β1 /Smad2/3 as a key signaling pathway regulating odontoblast differentiation and tooth root formation.

The biomolecular mechanisms that regulate tooth root development and odontoblast differentiation are poorly understood. We found that Atp6i deficient mice (Atp6i-/-) arrested tooth root formation, indicated by truncated Hertwig's epithelial root sheath (HERS) progression. Furthermore, Atp6i deficiency significantly reduced the proliferation and differentiation of radicular odontogenic cells responsible for root formation. Atp6i-/- mice had largely decreased expression of odontoblast differentiation marker gene expression profiles (Col1a1, Nfic, Dspp, and Osx) in the alveolar bone. Atp6i-/- mic

Differential effects of parathyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone-related protein, and abaloparatide on collagen 1 expression by mouse cementoblasts and mouse tooth root density.

INTRODUCTION: Parathyroid hormone (PTH) plays an important role in maintaining mineral homeostasis by regulating calcium and phosphate levels. Clinical trials have shown that peptides of PTH (1-34), PTH-related protein (PTHrP 1-36), and the new peptide modeled on PTHrP, abaloparatide, can have different anabolic effects on osteoporotic subjects, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. The prevalence of moderate and major gingival recession has been shown to be higher in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. In addition, there is a significant association between osteoporosis and too

Ankylosed maxillary incisor with severe root resorption treated with a single-tooth dento-osseous osteotomy, vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis, and mini-implant anchorage.

Dentoalveolar ankylosis interferes with the vertical growth of the alveolar process, which can lead to an open bite, an unesthetic smile, and occlusal disharmony. This case report presents a new treatment protocol for an ankylosed tooth with severe root resorption using a combined surgical orthodontic management protocol involving a single-tooth dento-osseous osteotomy and vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis with intraoral elastics and mini-implant anchorage. After distraction and active orthodontic treatment, the patient's anterior open bite was corrected. A Class I dental relationship

Case report: endodontic and surgical treatment of an upper central incisor with external root resorption and radicular cyst following a traumatic tooth avulsion.

In the age group between 6 and 12 years, trauma to the upper incisors happens frequently. In the case of avulsion, a replantation is the state-of-the-art treatment; however, it may lead to several complications, particularly if suitable posttraumatic management is not carried out. External cervical resorptions as well as apical granuloma and cysts due to microbial contamination of the root canal are common complications. In the presented trauma case, a conservative approach was chosen to treat a large cystic lesion combined with cervical and apical resorptions. After initial placement of Leder

Analysis of the healing process in delayed tooth replantation after root canal filling with calcium hydroxide, Sealapex and Endofill: a microscopic study in rats.

The major concern in the therapeutics of tooth replantation refers to the occurrence of root resorption and different approaches have been proposed to prevent or treat these complications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate tissue response to delayed replantation of anterior rat teeth treated endodontically using calcium hydroxide, Sealapex, and Endofill without the placement of gutta-percha cones. Thirty rats had their right upper incisor extracted and maintained in dry storage for 60 min. After removal of the dental papilla, enamel organ, pulp tissue, and periodontal ligament remnants

Multi-modal Restorative Endodontic Management to Rehabilitate and Salvage a Tooth with External Cervical Resorption and Iatrogenic Over Enlarged Root Canal with Widened Apex.

The presence of both a pathologic external cervical resorption (ECR) and an iatrogenic over-enlarged root canal with a widened apex can significantly compromise the structural integrity of a tooth. Furthermore, regular restorative-endodontic management of the involved tooth poses many procedural challenges and difficulties. However, a multi-modal approach involving nonsurgical and surgical procedures with the application of advances in endodontics can help to manage and salvage such a tooth. This article aims to report on a case of multi-modal management with the application of cone-beam compu
