BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) remains a major public health challenge in Morocco, where it is the second most frequent cancer among women. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) is the primary etiological factor. Limited data exist regarding HPV genotype distribution and associated risk factors in the Moroccan female population.
METHODS: A retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study was conducted at the Mohammed V Military Teaching Hospital, Rabat, Morocco, between May 2023 and April 2025. Asymptomatic women aged 30-65 years undergoing routine CC screening w

OBJECTIVES: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in sub-Saharan Africa face persistent challenges in meeting their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs, contributing to high rates of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This study aimed to assess the prevalence and key determinants of unmet SRH needs among sexually active AGYW living in the Haut-Sassandra region, Côte d'Ivoire.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study, conducted in October 2023, included 342 sexually active AGYW randomly recruited from schools and public

BACKGROUND: Female infertility with unknown causes (unexplained) remains one of the mysteries in the reproductive health field, where the diagnostic evidence is still weak and the proposed treatments still work with unknown methods. However, several studies have proposed some possible causes and risk factors for unexplained female infertility.
AIM: To characterize and identify factors associated with unexplained infertility in Sudanese women.
METHODS: A matched (age and body mass index) case-control study was conducted from March 2021 to February 2022. The study samples were 210 women with u

INTRODUCTION: Phase-specific diagnoses, such as hypoactive sexual desire disorder, are the norm in sexual medicine. Epidemiologic surveys and clinical trials show the value of this structure for understanding and treating premenopausal sexual dysfunction; however, postmenopausal women have sexual dysfunction in >1 phase, for example, in desire and arousal.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the evidence for mixed or global sexual dysfunction in women, identify associated comorbidities, and determine the best available treatment.
METHODS: Literature review of epidemiologic surveys and clinical trials to

UNLABELLED: Empirical evidence has shown that international adoptees present physical growth delays, precocious puberty, behavioral problems, and mental health referrals more often than non-adoptees. We hypothesized that the higher prevalence of (mental) health problems in adoptees is accompanied by elevated consumption of prescription drugs, including antidepressants, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication, and medication for growth inhibition/stimulation. In an archival, population-based Dutch cohort study, data on medication use were available from the Health Care Insura

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in women, and its development results from both traditional risk factors and female-specific determinants that emerge across the life course. This narrative review explores the role of physical activity in reducing risk associated with five major sex-specific cardiovascular determinants: hormonal contraception, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, pregnancy complications and menopause. This review synthesized up-to-date studies exploring the associations between these conditions and cardiovascular risk in women, as wel

BACKGROUND: Addressing family planning (FP) needs of people living with HIV is an effective response to HIV prevention. Healthy timing and spacing of births help ensure the health and well-being of all women and infants, regardless of their HIV-infection. In addition, preventing unintended pregnancies is an important strategy for prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV. The main purpose of this study was to explore the knowledge of family planning methods and identify factors affecting the utilization of such methods among HIV infected men and women attending two Anti-Retroviral Ther

Vasectomy has advantages with respect to safety and cost when compared with female sterilization. The reasons underlying the overall low use of vasectomy, particularly among Black and Latinos, have not been adequately explored. The goals of this study were to (a) explore the social context of vasectomy decisions and (b) generate hypotheses about the social factors contributing to differences in vasectomy use by race/ethnicity. Fourteen group and nine couples interviews were conducted. Participants were 37 heterosexual couples aged 25 to 55 years who had reached their desired family size and se

Women with an early coitarche may be less connected to home than those with a later coitarche and are more at risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Children in care or the 'looked after' system feel less connected. We investigated whether women ever in care (WEIC) differed from women never in care (WNIC) in terms of coitarche and STIs using self-reported data from women attending Genitourinary Medicine clinics. Of the 336 women participating 17 women had experienced care, of whom 13 (76.5%) had coitarche below 16 years of age; of these five (38.5%) had used a condom at coitarche and

This article uses linked data from the 1995 Morocco DHS calendar and the 1992 Morocco DHS service-availability module to study the effect of service environment on contraceptive discontinuation, switching, and adoption of a modern method following a birth. The 1995 Morocco DHS also collected information on the source of supply for each episode of use of a modern method recorded in the calendar, allowing study of the association between the source of supply and discontinuation and switching rates. Multilevel event-history models are used to evaluate the impact of individual-level sociodemograph

IMPORTANCE: Access to prenatal and postpartum care is restricted among women with low income who are recent or undocumented immigrants enrolled in Emergency Medicaid.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the association of extending prenatal care coverage to Emergency Medicaid enrollees with postpartum contraception and short interpregnancy interval births.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cohort study used a difference-in-differences design to compare the staggered rollout of prenatal care in Oregon with South Carolina, a state that does not cover prenatal or postpartum care. Linked Medicaid claims

BACKGROUND: The European Action Plan for Sexual and Reproductive Health emphasizes the importance of improving access to contraceptive services for disadvantaged groups. However, a prior study showed that the prevalence of abortion is two times higher among refugees compared to non-immigrants in Norway. Similarly, a recent study reported that 50% of Somali women in Oslo had unintended childbirth on one occasion or more. These findings are supported by several studies in Europe that showed immigrant and refugee women have higher rates of unintended pregnancy and abortion than Non-immigrant wome

OBJECTIVE: Female bar workers (FBW) in East Africa often conduct sex work to supplement their incomes, and may be vulnerable to HIV acquisition. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) offers protection against HIV acquisition. However, there is little research on FBW's sexual health. Our objective was to determine HIV risk behaviours and interest in PrEP among FBW in the largest city in East Africa.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey covering respondents' work and personal lives, including social and behavioural risk factors for HIV. The survey aimed to determine the feasibility of working with FBW and
