OBJECTIVE: The current study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between antimüllerian hormone (AMH) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) phenotypes and to determine whether AMH is associated with pregnancy outcomes in infertile women undergoing their first in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of 2973 infertile women, including 418 women with PCOS undergoing their first IVF treatment at a private fertility center from January 2014 to March 2018. Women were stratified into three groups using cutoffs defined by the 25th and 75th

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) impacts ∼10% of reproductive-aged women worldwide. In addition to infertility, women with PCOS suffer from metabolic dysregulation which increases their risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Studies have shown differences in the gut microbiome of women with PCOS compared to controls, a pattern replicated in PCOS-like mouse models. Recently, using a letrozole (LET)-induced mouse model of PCOS, we demonstrated that cohousing was protective against development of metabolic and reproductive phenotypes and

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is considered to be the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. The involvement of an abnormal menstrual cycle in the etiology of PCOS remains unclear. We aimed to analyze the characteristics of abnormal menstrual cycles and their association with PCOS in community and hospital patient populations.
METHODS: Women with PCOS identified from 2111 permanent female residents in the community of Beijing and 506 outpatients obtained from the reproductive clinic of Peking University Third Hospital were recruited for this study, compris

The frequent coexistence of hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance is well established; however, whether a cause and effect relationship exists remains to be established. In this study we tested the hypothesis that short-term androgen administered to women would induce insulin resistance. To test this hypothesis, regularly menstruating, nonobese women were studied before and during methyltestosterone administration (5 mg tid for 10-12 days) by the hyperglycemic (n=8) and euglycemic, hyperinsulinemic (n=7) clamp techniques. Short-term methyltestosterone administration had no significant effect

The biological activity of circulating luteinizing hormone (LH) molecules can be assessed with high sensitivity, specificity, and precision by the in-vitro rat interstitial (Leydig)-cell testosterone (RICT) bioassay. Compared to immunoreactive estimates of the LH content of plasma, the living Leydig-cell bioassay integrates the functional in-vitro potency of all circulating LH isoforms, while simultaneously reflecting the effects of otherwise potentially confounding in-vivo antagonists of LH action on steroidogenesis. Here, we review the pathophysiological regulation by steroid hormones of bio

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal, metabolic disorder in women of reproductive age. It can be induced by genetic, immunological, and environmental determinants. The main pathophysiology of PCOS, is hyperandrogenism, which can lead to acne, hirsutism, menstrual irregularities, as well as infertility. However, PCOS is also associated with chronic low-grade inflammation. There was little study on the autoimmunity, like anti-FSH and anti-LH antibodies, of PCOS, so the current study was designed to test the effectiveness of these antibodies on the occurrence of PCOS.

INTRODUCTION: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the leading cause of anovulatory infertility and is consistently associated with poor oocyte developmental competence, yet the molecular basis of this qualitative defect remains poorly defined. Because the germinal vesicle (GV)-to-metaphase II (MII) transition occurs under global transcriptional silence and depends entirely on the post-transcriptional remodeling of pre-stored maternal mRNAs, we hypothesized that PCOS may selectively disrupt this regulatory program rather than impose a constitutive transcriptomic lesion.
METHODS: To test this,

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multisystem endocrine disorder associated with hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, and chronic low-grade inflammation. These systemic changes may affect ocular surface homeostasis, yet longitudinal data on treatment effects are limited. This study aimed to evaluate different ocular surface parameters in women with PCOS and assess their changes following treatment with cyclical estrogen-progestogen therapy (hormone therapy [HT]) or clomiphene citrate.
METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 60 women with PCOS and 30 age-matched healthy con

BACKGROUND: Severe obesity is associated with hormonal imbalances, hyperandrogenism, and insulin resistance, all of which adversely affect reproductive physiology. Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) produces durable weight loss and metabolic improvement, but its effects on ovarian reserve markers and reproductive hormones in women of reproductive age remain incompletely characterized.
OBJECTIVE: To prospectively evaluate the impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on obesity indices, reproductive hormones, ovarian reserve markers, and insulin resistance over 12 months in women with sever

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by excess androgens, ovulatory disorders and a higher prevalence of obesity and metabolic disturbances including Type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidaemia and hypertension, some of which are risk factors for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and brain atrophy. However, it is unclear whether brain ageing occurs more rapidly in women with PCOS compared with those without PCOS. Except for the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis involved in the conventional ovulatory process, little is known regarding the role of the grey matter in the

BACKGROUND: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is a complex endocrine disorder affecting 6-21% of reproductive-aged women, characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology. Current clinical management relies on lifestyle modifications and symptom-targeted therapies due to the absence of curative interventions. In recent years, Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD), a surgical procedure that induces controlled ovarian damage to stimulate primordial follicle activation and regulate follicular growth, has emerged as an established therapeutic intervention for

BACKGROUND: Low-grade chronic inflammation is observed in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) suggested that several inflammation marker levels were altered in the blood routine tests in PCOS patients and such changes were associated with variant gene clusters. Therefore, inflammatory marker alterations in the blood routine tests are significant and might be involved in the onset as well as progression of PCOS. Compared with other markers, these inflammatory markers in the blood routine tests are less expensive and easier to detect. Very f

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of GLP1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) in treating polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) remains unclear. While GLP1-RAs are known to promote weight loss in patients with diabetes and living with obesity, their impact on weight reduction and hormonal regulation in women with PCOS is understudied. Therefore, we aimed to assess the efficacy of GLP1-RAs in PCOS women living with obesity through a meta-analysis, comparing their effects to placebo.
HYPOTHESIS: The use of GLP1-RAs in PCOS women living with obesity can reduce body mass index and waist circumference as well as imp

BACKGROUND: Disruption in androgen profiles and testicular adrenal rest tumors in males with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) can negatively affect sexual activity and fertility. Adrenal hyperandrogenism suppresses gonadotropin secretion and testicular adrenal rest tumors (TARTS), despite being noncancerous lesions, cause obstructive azoospermia and impaired testosterone (T) production. Circulating T in men with uncontrolled CAH is often predominantly adrenal in origin, which is reflected in high androstenedione/testosterone ratios (A4/T). Therefore, decreased luteinizing hormone (LH) leve

BACKGROUND: Hyperandrogenism, hyperinsulinaemia and obesity play a key and coordinating roles in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), contributing in different ways to the clinical expression of the syndrome. Weight loss is beneficial, but the additional administration of insulin-lowering drugs, such as metformin, and antiandrogens may produce further benefits, due to their different spectrum of action. The effects of long-term metformin and flutamide, an antiandrogen drug, added alone or in combination with a low-calorie diet, on body weight and fat distribution, androgens, m

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder with a symptomatic manifestation of an array of metabolic and endocrine impairments. PCOS has a relatively high prevalence rate among young women of reproductive age and is a risk factor for some severe metabolic diseases such as T2DM, insulin insensitivity, and obesity, while the most dominant endocrine malfunction is an excess of testosterone showing hyperandrogenism and hirsutism. MicroRNAs have been implicated as mediators of metabolic diseases including obesity and insulin resistance, as these can regulate multiple cellular pathways such as i

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) occurs in women of reproductive age and is often characterized by reproductive and endocrine dysfunction. Androgens play a major role in PCOS, and previous studies reported abnormal expression of Connexin 43 (Cx43) in animal models of PCOS, suggesting an association of Cx43 with PCOS pathogenesis. Experimental and clinical evidence indicated that acupuncture may be a safe and effective approach for treating reproductive and endocrine disorders in women with PCOS. This study aimed to determine the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on PCOS and its

OBJECTIVE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine problem in adolescents with an increasing prevalence of 30%. Pursuing new biomarkers with high specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of PCOS in adolescents is currently an active area of research. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), insulin-like peptide-3 (INSL3), inhibin-A (INH-A), and inhibin-B (INH-B) in adolescents with PCOS and also to determine the association, if any, between these hormones and clinical/laboratory findings related with hyperandrogenism.
METHODS: The study
