Radiographic Analysis of Graft Dimensional Changes in Transcrestal Maxillary Sinus Augmentation: A Retrospective Study.

Background. The maxillary sinus lift is a popular and predictable technique associated with implant-supported rehabilitation of the severely atrophic maxilla. The aim of the present retrospective study was to investigate the effectiveness of transcrestal maxillary sinus augmentation and the graft resorption pattern using different heterologous bone substitutes. Methods. A total of 75 sinus-grafting procedures were performed and 89 implants were placed in 66 patients, 24 males and 42 females, with mean age 67.9 ± 10.64 years (range 43−84 years). Nineteen subjects were smokers. The mean follow-u

Maxillary bone grafting for insertion of endosseous implants: results after 12-124 months.

Insertion of endosseous implants in the atrophic maxilla is often complicated because of lack of supporting bone. Augmentation of the floor of the maxillary sinus with autogenous bone graft has been proven to be a reliable treatment modality, at least in the short term. The long-term clinical and radiographic outcome with regard to the grafts, the implants and satisfaction of the patients with their implant-supported overdenture was studied in 99 patients. The sinus floor was augmented with bone grafts derived from the iliac crest (83 subjects, 162 sinuses, 353 implants), the mandibular symphy

ENT assessment in the integrated management of candidate for (maxillary) sinus lift.

As stated at the 1996 Consensus Conference at Babson College, a (maxillary) sinus lift is a "safe and predictable" procedure for increasing alveolar bone height in the postero-superior alveolar regions in order to allow oral rehabilitation and restore masticatory function by means of the insertion of a dental implant even in the case of an atrophic maxilla. However, the procedure has a well-known impact on the delicate homeostasis of the maxillary sinus: the concomitant presence of systemic, naso-sinusal or maxillary sinus disease may favour the development of post-operative complications (par

Dental implants placed in grafted maxillary sinuses: a retrospective analysis of clinical outcome according to the initial clinical situation and a proposal of defect classification.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: To present a classification of maxillary defects necessitating sinus floor elevation procedures (SFEPs) with two objectives: (a) to propose a standardization of surgical procedures according to initial type of atrophy and (b) to allow the evaluation of the success/survival rates of implants placed in the grafted areas according to the initial situation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine-hundred and fifty-two consecutive SFEP were performed on 692 patients. Initial defects were classified according to a new classification, which considered not only residual bone height below

Effects of Maxillary Sinus Augmentation on Endosseous Dental Implant Survival: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) is a procedure for rehabilitating the atrophic posterior maxilla, but the optimal surgical technique and its long-term impact on implant survival remain debated. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to synthesize the available evidence on the long-term survival of endosseous dental implants placed in augmented maxillary sinuses. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a search of major electronic databases was performed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohor
