Blue sharks (Prionace glauca) are circumglobal predators that can accumulate elevated mercury (Hg) concentrations due to their high trophic position. This study measured Hg in the muscle and liver of a pregnant female and her complete litter of 34 late-term embryos collected from the southwestern Gulf of California to assess tissue-specific maternal-embryonic Hg patterns and absolute burdens. BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) are part of a spectrum of Lewy body disorders, who exhibit a range of cognitive and gait impairments. Cognitive-motor interactions can be examined by performing a cognitive task while walking and quantified by a dual task cost (DTC). White matter hyperintensities (WMH) on magnetic resonance imaging have also been associated with both gait and cognition. Pacific angel sharks (Squatina californica) are a benthic elasmobranch that occupy intermediate trophic level positions in coastal food webs. Angel sharks' life history characteristics make them susceptible to accumulating high amounts of contaminants.
