Associations of circulating omentin-1 levels and long noncoding RNA MALAT1 expression with coronary heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a severe diabetic vascular complication and the main cause of mortality among diabetes patients. Early diagnosis of CHD could prevent its development. Both omentin-1 (Oment-1) and the long noncoding RNA MALAT1 (lncRNA MALAT1) can be detected in peripheral blood and exhibit protective or detrimental effects on CHD. However, whether these two factors could be predictive of CHD in T2DM patients remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the associations of circulating Oment-1 levels and the expression of MALAT1 with CHD in T2DM patients and to asse

Circulating procoagulant microparticles and soluble GPV in myocardial infarction treated by primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. A possible role for GPIIb-IIIa antagonists.

Circulating procoagulant microparticles (MP) were measured as markers of vascular damage and prothrombotic risk in patients undergoing ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated by primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and additional GPIIb-IIIa antagonists. Cells possibly more responsive to GPIIb-IIIa (alpha(IIb)beta(3)) antagonists were evidenced through MP phenotypes by comparison with healthy volunteers (HV) and STEMI patients treated by PTCA without GPIIb-IIIa antagonist (CP). In 50 STEMI patients, blood samples were collected at day 1 and day 6. Circulating p

Circulating exosomal miR-550a-5p/miR-665 identify coronary microvascular dysfunction and drive endothelial-myocyte crosstalk in type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify circulating exosomal microRNAs for early detection of coronary microvascular dysfunction (MD) and stratification of myocardial injury risk in type 2 diabetes, and to test whether miR-550a-5p derived from endothelial cell models mechanistically links endothelial stress to cardiomyocyte vulnerability via Hippo-eNOS signaling and vesicular transfer. METHOD: We combined Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO)-guided discovery and compendium prioritization with clinical and mechanistic validation. Plasma exosomal miR-550a-5p/miR-665 were quantified in a well-phenotype

Traditional Chinese medicine injection for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis in treating angina pectoris of coronary heart disease: A protocol for systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: As a common cardiovascular disease, the morbidity and mortality of coronary heart disease (CHD) are increasing year by year. In recent years, many RCTs have proved that compared with conventional therapy, the combination of TCMIs for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis can improve clinical efficacy. However, there is still a lack of direct comparative study between different kinds of TCMIs. Therefore, based on the NMA, this study compares the curative effects of various TCMIs for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis in treating CHD to provide a re

Systemic and myocardial inflammatory response in coronary artery bypass graft surgery with miniaturized extracorporeal circulation: differences with a standard circuit and off-pump technique in a randomized clinical trial.

Inflammatory response and hemodilution are the main drawbacks of extracorporeal circulation. We hypothesize that the use of miniaturized extracorporeal circulation (MECC) might lower the systemic and myocardial inflammatory patterns compared with a standard system (SECC) and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG). Sixty-one patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass graft were prospectively randomized to MECC (n = 19), SECC (n = 20), or OPCABG (n = 22). Blood samples were collected from radial artery and coronary sinus to analyze blood lactate, hemodilution, and markers for

Increased circulating levels of tumor necrosis factor-like cytokine 1A and decoy receptor 3 correlate with SYNTAX score in patients undergoing coronary surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic inflammation of the arteries is a critical mechanism responsible for coronary atherosclerosis. We aimed to determine if tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like cytokine 1A (TL1A) and decoy receptor 3 (DcR3) were involved in promoting atherosclerosis. METHODS: We compared plasma levels of TL1A and DcR3 in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (n=40) and patients without CAD group (n=37, normal coronary artery angiogram) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We also analyzed the correlation between CAD and SYNTAX scores. RESULTS: Pla

Impaired coronary microcirculation in type 2 diabetic patients is associated with elevated circulating regulatory T cells and reduced number of IL-21R⁺ T cells.

BACKGROUND: Low-grade systemic inflammation is considered to participate in the progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and in diabetic complications. METHODS: To determine if circulating leukocytes were abnormally regulated in T2D patients, 8-color flow-cytometry (FACS) analysis was performed in a cross-sectional study of 37 T2D patients and 16 controls. Data obtained from the FACS analysis were compared to coronary flow reserve (CFR), assessed by Rb(82)-PET-imaging, to uncover inflammatory signatures associated with impaired CFR. RESULTS: Presence of T2D was associated with T cell attenuation

Differential associations of circulating asymmetric dimethylarginine and cell adhesion molecules with metformin use in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and stable coronary artery disease.

Metformin, the drug of first choice in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), reduces cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality in part independently of improved glycemic control and changes in traditional risk factors. However, there are discordant reports on the effects of metformin on endothelial function in T2DM. Our aim was to compare biochemical endothelial markers in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) and T2DM stratified by metformin use. We studied 70 patients (29 women, age 68 ± 9 years) with established T2DM referred for elective coronary angiography owing to stable angin

Decreased circulating microRNA-223 level predicts high on-treatment platelet reactivity in patients with troponin-negative non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome.

To investigate the relationship between circulating microRNA 223 (miR-223) levels and clopidogrel responsiveness in patients with coronary heart disease. A total of 62 consecutive patients with troponin-negative non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) scheduled for elective percutaneous coronary intervention were enrolled. The plasma circulating miR-223 levels were quantified by real-time PCR, and platelet reactivity was determined by platelet reactivity index (PRI), measured by vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) phosphorylation flow cytometry after 300 mg (for at least 2

Circulating malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein levels are associated with the presence of thin-cap fibroatheromas determined by optical coherence tomography in coronary artery disease.

AIMS: The importance of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) has been implicated in the process of plaque rupture. However, few previous studies demonstrated the relationship between plaque morphology and oxLDL. We evaluated the relationship between coronary plaque vulnerability assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and circulating malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL). METHODS AND RESULTS: OCT was used to determine plaque vulnerability in 102 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS; n = 53) and stable angina pectoris (SAP; n = 49). Circulating levels of M

Epicardial adipose tissue mediates the association between circulating hsa-miR-4750-3p and coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND: Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a metabolically active visceral fat depot contributing to coronary atherosclerosis, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying EAT-related coronary artery disease (CAD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remain unclear. Previously, we identified novel circulating miRNAs targeting fatty acid metabolism in T2DM-CAD. This study aimed to investigate whether EAT may explain the association between dysregulated hsa-miR-4505, hsa-miR-4743-5p, hsa-miR-4750-3p and CAD in T2DM patients and whether it can detect diabetic atherosclerosis alone or in a multi-moda

F13A1 Gene Variant (V34L) and Residual Circulating FXIIIA Levels Predict Short- and Long-Term Mortality in Acute Myocardial Infarction after Coronary Angioplasty.

Factor XIIIA (FXIIIA) levels are independent predictors of early prognosis after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and the Valine-to-Leucine (V34L) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) seems associated with lower AMI risk. Since the long-term AMI prognosis merits deeper investigation, we performed an observational study evaluating relationships between FXIIIA residual levels, cardiovascular risk-factors, and inherited genetic predispositions. FXIIIA V34L was genotyped in 333 AMI patients and a five-year follow-up was performed. FXIIIA levels assessed at day-zero (d0) and four days after AMI (d
