Minimally invasive intervention in external cervical resorption: a case report with six-year follow-up.

Root resorption consists of the loss of mineralized tissue (enamel, dentin, and cementum) of the inner or outer surface of the tooth due to the action of clastic cells. The correct diagnosis, the location, degree of tissue destruction, and the type of treatment are obstacles to the resolution of these lesions. The external cervical resorption is initiated in the amelocemental region progressively resorbing cementum, dentin, and enamel, constituting multiples ducts of resorption in an apical direction. This study reports a clinical case of treatment of a tooth affected by external cervical reso

Submandibular gland and caries susceptibility in the obese Zucker rat.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a prevalent disorder characterized as marked insulin resistance and low grade inflammation. We tested the hypothesis that obesity upregulates inflammatory markers in the submandibular gland in association with derangements of its architecture and pre-disposition to caries in obese Zucker rats (OZR). We also examined the potential impact of chromium picolinate (Cr(Pic)3), a nutritional supplement suggested to improve glycemic control, on the aforementioned parameters. DESIGN: Male OZR were treated with diets lacking and containing 5 or 10 mg/kg chromium (as Cr(Pic)3) fro

Facile Ag+-assisted bonding strategy to build a low-defect hybrid layer with intrinsic antibacterial and enzymolysis inhibitory properties.

As the most widely used material for dental tissue repair, dental resin composites face durability challenges, and their longevity critically depends on the hybrid layer's integrity. Incomplete adhesive infiltration within demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) creates structural defects in this layer, rendering it vulnerable to stress, enzymatic degradation, and bacterial invasion. These factors contribute to secondary caries, the predominant complication of resin-based restorations. Enhancing adhesive infiltration and the hybrid layer's antibacterial capacity is thus pivotal to extending the rest

Nerve-pulp interactions.

Pulpal haemodynamics are naturally intermeshed with inflammatory responses. Cellular and humoral factors may be the vehicles that aid in physiological regulation, but when these systems are overly activated, they may lead to pathological changes. Sensory nerves may initiate inflammatory reactions when activated, and interestingly, recent findings show that vasoconstrictor nerves in the pulp can inhibit the release of neurally stored vasoactive and inflammatory mediators. Thus, there are options for endogenous control of inflammation. Perhaps a variation in the effectiveness of such control can

A direct technique with a double lateral bridging flap for coverage of denuded root surface and gingiva extension. Clinical evaluation after 2 years.

We are introducing a new surgical technique which enables us to cover gingival recessions and extend the gingiva with a one-step procedure. This method can be described generally as a combination of a coronally repositioned flap and a modified vestibulum plastic. So far this method has been applied to 55 teeth of 19 different patients. The results have been observed for 2 years. After this time, 54.4% (30 teeth) still had complete coverage of the previously denuded root surfaces. The results show that it is possible to cover gingival recessions without increasing the zone of keratinized gingiv

Acrylamide monomers in universal adhesives.

OBJECTIVES: The mono-functional monomer 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) is often added to universal adhesives (UAs) to improve surface wetting and prevent phase separation. Nevertheless, HEMA promotes water sorption and hydrolysis at adhesive interfaces, hereby affecting long-term bonding to dentin. This study investigated if two acrylamide monomers could replace HEMA in an UA formulation applied in etch-and-rinse (2E&R) and self-etch (1SE) bonding mode. METHODS: Four experimental UAs were bonded to bur-cut dentin. In addition to 12 wt% 10-MDP, 25 wt% Bis-GMA and 10 wt% TEGDMA as common mo

Development and Validation of Chinese Version of Dental Pain Screening Questionnaire.

INTRODUCTION: Dental pain is one of the most prevalent oral complaints. This study aimed to establish a Chinese version of Dental Pain Screening Questionnaire (DePaQ) to help classify patients into three groups of dental pain diseases (group 1, reversible pulpitis and dentine hypersensitivity; group 2, acute periapical periodontitis and irreversible pulpitis; and group 3, pericoronitis). METHODS: The DePaQ was translated from English to Chinese. The clinical subjects (CS, n = 290) and nonclinical subjects (NS, n = 100) with dental pain were collected. Esthetic evaluation and patient-centered outcomes in root-coverage procedures.

Treatment of buccal gingival recession is performed for esthetic concerns, root sensitivity, root caries and cervical abrasion resulting from incorrect toothbrushing. Over the years, clinicians and researchers have improved surgical techniques to achieve surrogate end points, such as complete root coverage, gingival recession reduction or keratinized tissue increase, ignoring the input from the patient regarding the true indications for treatment. In the past few years there has been an emphasis to include patient-centered outcomes in the evaluation of root-coverage procedures. The aim of this

Success of pulpotomy in the management of hyperplastic pulpitis.

Hyperplastic pulpitis is a variety of chronic open pulpitis which is regarded as irreversible. This condition is usually treated by root canal treatment, unless coronal damage does not permit restoration, in which case extraction is indicated. In the present study, 24 permanent teeth of individuals, aged 10-22 years and diagnosed as hyperplastic pulpitis were treated by pulpotomy using an atraumatic surgical technique with calcium hydroxide alone. The treatment was successful in 22 teeth, according to the following criteria: absence of clinical symptoms, absence of any intraradicular or perira
