BACKGROUND: In 2021, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation established the Multi-Disciplinary Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection Collaborative to provide guidance from established Long COVID clinics for the evaluation and management of Long COVID. The collaborative previously published eight Long COVID consensus guidance statements using a primarily symptom-based approach. However, Long COVID symptoms most often do not occur in isolation.
AIMS: This compendium aims to equip clinicians with an efficient, up-to-date clinical resource for evaluating and managing a

BACKGROUND: The Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) accounts for 10-27% of lower back pain. Radiofrequency neurotomy (RFN) is commonly utilized for refractory pain. Outcomes are variable and may be related to patient selection and procedural technique differences.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness and outcome success predictors of SIJ RFN at three months.
DESIGN/METHODS: Data of patients undergoing SIJ RFN were extracted from the electronic medical record of one physiatrist's interventional pain practice between 2016 and 2021. The extracted data included the following outcome variables: ≥2 decrease

INTRODUCTION: Numerous studies have indicated that intra-articular steroid injections to the hip are beneficial for short-term pain relief. However, recent studies have drawn concerns of rapidly progressive osteoarthritis of the hip (RPOH) following intra-articular steroid injections. The prevalence of RPOH following intra-articular steroid injections varies widely in the literature.
OBJECTIVE: To identify the prevalence of RPOH following intra-articular steroid injections, and to compare baseline characteristics between patients with and without RPOH.
DESIGN: Case series.
SETTING: Tertiary

INTRODUCTION: Many orthopedic providers currently treat chronic spondylolysis as self-limited fractures. While the condition has previously been associated with back pain in pediatrics, there has been little attention on the risk of neurologic harm. Electromyography (EMG) is a common study used to evaluate nerve injury, but it has not been previously reported for testing pediatric patients with stress fractures. In this study, pediatric patients with chronic pars fractures and muscle extremity weakness who underwent EMG testing were reviewed to analyze their risk of chronic nerve injury.

BACKGROUND: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is gaining wide acceptance as treatment for Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremor, and dystonia.
METHODS: A 40-item questionnaire commissioned by the DBS Study Group was sent to 46 centers that had performed at least 25 DBS implantations. These centers were identified through the DBS Study Group, other professional societies, and with the assistance of the Medtronic Corporation. The results were then tabulated and descriptive analyses were performed.
RESULTS: Thirty-six of 47 centers (77%) responded, they had implanted 4,553 patients. The timing

IMPORTANCE: Children with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP) experience motor impairments that affect daily functioning. Despite clinical improvements with current therapies, evidence-based practices for home settings are lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To develop a tailored, task-specific, home-based upper limb training program for children with UCP using the Delphi method to bridge the gap between therapy and daily life improvements.
DESIGN: Three-phase design that involved identifying key tasks based on Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) data, developing pilot activities, and achieving exp

MOG antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is a new entity within the spectrum of autoimmune inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. It is distinct from multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Although they share certain clinical characteristics, these 3 diseases differ in terms of their pathophysiology, disease course and response to treatment. MOGAD is a rare disease affecting both adults and children, with a higher frequency in the latter. The clinical presentation of MOGAD varies depending on age: in children under the age of 10, presentations

JUSTIFICATION: Neurodevelopmental disorders, as per DSM-V, are described as a group of conditions with onset in the development period of childhood. There is a need to distinguish the process of habilitation and rehabilitation, especially in a developing country like India, and define the roles of all stakeholders to reduce the burden of neurodevelopmental disorders.
PROCESS: Subject experts and members of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Chapter of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, who reviewed the literature on the topic, developed key questions and prepared the first draft on guidelines. Th

BACKGROUND: In conventional multi-trauma care service (CTCS), patients are admitted to hospital via the accident & emergency room. After surgery they are transferred to the IC-unit followed by the general surgery ward. Ensuing treatment takes place in a hospital's outpatient clinic, a rehabilitation centre, a nursing home or the community. Typically, each of the CTCS partners may have its own more or less autonomous treatment perspective. Clinical evidence, however, suggests that an integrated multi-trauma rehabilitation approach ('Supported Fast-track multi-Trauma Rehabilitation Service': SFT

BACKGROUND: Metatarsalgia is related to repetitive high-pressure loading under the metatarsal head (MH) that causes pain. The high pressure under the MH can be reduced by adequately applying metatarsal pads (MPs). Plantar pressure measurements may provide a method to objectively evaluate pressure loading under the MH. However, it is still unclear if the decrease in plantar pressure under the MH after MP treatment is associated with subjective improvement. This study aims to explore the correlations between subjective pain improvement and outcome rating, and the plantar pressure parameters in m

Peripheral nerves are susceptible to injury in the athlete because of the excessive physiological demands that are made on both the neurological structures and the soft tissues that protect them. The common mechanisms of injury are compression, traction, ischaemia and laceration. Seddon's original classification system for nerve injuries based on neurophysiological changes is the most widely used. Grade 1 nerve injury is a neuropraxic condition, grade 2 is axonal degeneration and grade 3 is nerve transection. Peripheral nerve injuries are more common in the upper extremities than the lower ext

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a complication following allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant that frequently causes multiorgan affection and decrease in quality of life. Global assessment and care of these patients require a multidisciplinary approach, but access to focused clinics is limited given their scarcity and location in major cities, as well as mobility and transportation challenges that frequently affect these patients. Thus, we established a multispecialty GVHD telehealth (TH) clinic and hypothesized that a virtual platform will expand access to clinical care in children an

BACKGROUND: Advanced oral tongue carcinoma can present with extension beyond the oral cavity. Operative defects after resection may involve multiple anatomical sites and significantly impact speech and swallowing. Dependence on long-term enteral feeding is not uncommon for these patients. The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap is one of the most reliable and flexible flaps used in the reconstruction of total and subtotal tongue defects. The double-paddle flap modification may be a more suitable option for complex oral tongue defects after advanced tumor ablation.
METHODS: Case series of 31 patien

The psychosocial problems of decreased social contact, depression, and loneliness that occur for many with traumatic brain injury (TBI) create a major challenge for enhancing efforts at community re-entry. Despite dramatic physical progress within the first six months after injury, these psychosocial problems remain a persistent long-term problem for the majority of individuals with severe TBI. Researchers have consistently suggested that the psychosocial problems associated with TBI may actually be the major challenge facing rehabilitation. The majority of individuals who sustain TBI are youn

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 crisis has created unanticipated changes in health care delivery for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). The pandemic's rapid evolution has resulted in a knowledge gap in how COVID-19 has affected MS clinical practice. Our objective was to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected clinical practice patterns in a nationwide cohort of MS clinicians across the United States.
METHODS: In collaboration with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS), we developed a 28-item SurveyMonkeyTM electronic questionnaire exploring MS specialists' perceptions of

BACKGROUND: In conservative mastectomies, in which the native skin envelope is preserved, positioning an implant in the submuscular plane commonly leads to functional consequences like upper limb movement impairment and animation phenomena. In recent years, however, a new conservative prepectoral breast reconstruction technique has been proposed, with demonstrated surgical safety and aesthetic effectiveness. The aim of our study was to explore and compare the functional and aesthetic outcomes of the prepectoral/acellular dermal matrix (ADM)-wrapped implant procedure versus subpectoral/ADM-assi

BACKGROUND: Spondylolysis with and without anterolisthesis is the most common cause of structural back pain in children and adolescents, but few predictive factors have been confirmed. An association between abnormal sacropelvic orientation and both spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis has been supported in the literature. Sacral slope and other sacropelvic measurements are easily accessible variables that could aid clinicians in assessing active adolescents with low back pain, particularly when the diagnosis of spondylolysis is suspected.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationship between sacral
