The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most frequently injured knee ligament. In previous studies, it was demonstrated that patients following ACL reconstruction may present motor deficits which may be related to increased risk of injury. The objective of the study was to determine whether players who have passed RTS assessment still have deficits in movement patterns or in neuromuscular control after such a serious injury as ACL rupture and reconstruction,. Sixty-five male football players (age 18-25 years), recruited from regional teams, were divided into three groups: (1) ACL group-sub

PURPOSE: To investigate the rate of a second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury based on different levels of knee flexion strength limb symmetry index (LSI) at the time of return to sport (RTS) after ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft.
METHODS: Data was extracted from a rehabilitation registry for patients aged 15-40 years, who participated in knee-strenuous sports pre-injury (Tegner ≥ 6) and underwent ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft. Isokinetic knee flexion strength was analysed and reported as LSI. Patients were categorised into three groups (≥90%, 80

BACKGROUND: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is associated with neuromuscular impairments that increase reinjury risk. Although vibration can enhance neuromuscular function, the effects of local muscle vibration (LMV) in individuals with CAI are unknown. This study examined the immediate effects of LMV on plantarflexor strength and activation and whether stance position influences these responses.
METHODS: Twenty individuals with CAI (age, 21±2 years; 3±1 lifetime ankle sprains) participated. All participants met the inclusion criteria for CAI established by the International Ankle Consortium.

INTRODUCTION: Bone stress injuries (BSIs) are common overuse injuries in athletes and are associated with prolonged recovery and high rates of reinjury. Despite their clinical importance, there is no consensus on how to define or assess BSI healing. Clinical, functional and imaging outcomes for BSI healing are used inconsistently across studies, limiting comparability and the development of evidence-based return-to-sport guidelines. This study aims to identify and characterise candidate outcomes for assessing BSI healing in runners, including their time course and variability across function,

BACKGROUND: Ipsilateral graft retear after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) remains a major concern in athletes, while the relationship between postoperative mechanical and functional measures and retear remains uncertain.
METHODS: This cohort study included 48 athletes after primary unilateral ACLR with hamstring-tendon autograft. Follow-up was scheduled at 6, 9, and 12 months (184 ± 13, 276 ± 17, and 368 ± 22 days), and the analytic export retained one postoperative value per athlete for GNRB side-to-side laxity at 250 N, concentric isokinetic quadriceps limb symmetry index

BACKGROUND: Early-onset knee osteoarthritis and high reinjury rates after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) highlight the need to monitor knee joint mechanics over time. Understanding long-term structural changes post-ACLR can clarify mechanisms underlying early degeneration. This study investigated short- and long-term changes in knee arthrokinematics during split squat post-ACLR.
METHODS: Sixteen individuals with ACLR (8 short-term, ∼3 years; 8 long-term, ∼12 years) and 8 healthy controls performed split squats while undergoing single-plane fluoroscopy. Individualized 3D mode

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are among the most common knee injuries in the United States. The ACL is an intra-articular ligament that resists anterior tibial translation and provides rotational stability. Most ACL injuries occur through non-contact mechanisms and are typically diagnosed based on history, physical examination, and confirmatory MRI. Treatment options include operative and non-operative management, with the latter focusing on restoring functional stability rather than expecting the ACL to heal spontaneously. In this case report, we present a 33-year-old female patie

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament injury rates are high and often associated with change-of-direction movements. Analysis of youth movement patterns is critical for avoiding injury and foot progression angle affects lower extremity kinematics during cutting movements. Knee abduction and hip adduction are known predictors of anterior cruciate ligament injury. The relationship between foot progression angle and lower extremity biomechanics lacks exploration in youth athletes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. This study aimed to assess the relationship between foot progres

Decision-making for the optimal management of traumatic knee injuries can be challenging. Clinical trials reveal only small differences between surgical and non-surgical approaches, while patient and clinician biases, as well as healthcare access issues, may also influence management. Little is known about the real-world healthcare pathways for patients with a knee injury, as well as the person- and/or healthcare-related factors that influence management strategies and outcomes. The Australian Knee Injury Inception Cohort Study (KIICS) aims to: (1) describe healthcare pathways following acute

Within the field of sports medicine, it is estimated that more than 200,000 anterior cruciate ligament tears occur every year and nearly one half of these patients will undergo anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) surgery. Although ACLR remains the gold standard for treatment and has demonstrated widely successful outcomes over the years, a small percentage of patients will experience postoperative complications such as instability, persistent knee pain, osteoarthritis, graft rupture, infection, and/or knee stiffness that may impact function and quality of life. Despite the overall

CLINICAL SCENARIO: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries remain one of the most common and debilitating injuries that physically active individuals experience. Pain-related fear of movement and/or reinjury, or kinesiophobia, is the most frequently cited reason for not returning to sport after ACL reconstruction. Understanding how kinesiophobia may impact recovery of physical performance is essential to guide targeted rehabilitation.
CLINICAL QUESTION: Does kinesiophobia associate with physical performance in patients with a history of ACL reconstruction?
SUMMARY OF KEY FINDINGS: Five cro

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a crucial stabilizer of the knee joint, and its injury risk and surgical outcomes are closely linked to femoral and tibial anatomy. This review focuses on current evidence on how skeletal parameters, such as femoral intercondylar notch morphology, tibial slope, and insertion site variations—influence ACL biomechanics. A narrowed or concave femoral notch raises the risk of impingement, while a higher posterior tibial slope makes anterior tibial translation worse, which increases ACL strain. Gender disparities exist, with females exhibiting smaller notch d

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in young, active patients generally require ACL reconstruction (ACLR) to restore mechanical and postural stability. The fear of movement or reinjury (kinesiophobia) has become increasingly recognized in the post-ACLR population; however, the association between restoration of postural stability and kinesiophobia remains largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in mean Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11), dynamic motion analysis (DMA) scores, and time on the testing platform, as well as any correlation between TSK-11 an

PURPOSE: Kinesiophobia refers to an irrational fear of physical activities or functional exercise due to the fear of pain or reinjury. Cancer patients who undergo esophagectomy are prone to developing kinesiophobia, which adversely affects their disease prognosis and quality of life. Somatic symptoms are closely related to kinesiophobia, but the mechanisms underlying this relationship remain unclear. Therefore, the current study aimed to explore the chain-mediation roles of intrusive rumination and avoidant coping in the relationship between somatic symptoms and kinesiophobia in cancer patient

BACKGROUND: There are limited data on the epidemiology of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures in elite adult soccer players, especially in the Russian Premier League (RPL). There is an increased risk of injury due to a combination of additional risk factors such as playing in extremely high and low temperatures, frequent long flights, and regular play on natural and artificial surfaces.
PURPOSE: To study the epidemiology of ACL ruptures and determine the patterns associated with their occurrence in RPL soccer players.
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive epidemiology study.
METHODS: All ACL rupt

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) rehabilitation necessitates restoration of quadriceps strength to minimize reinjury and optimize return to sport (RTS). Patients recovering from ACLR are limited by pain and activity restrictions, resulting in quadriceps muscle atrophy. Blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy involves performing exercises while a specialized blood pressure cuff is applied to the proximal aspect of the operative extremity and inflated to 40% to 90% of the arterial occlusion pressure, as determined using Doppler ultrasonography. BFR is theorized to induce an anaerobi

BACKGROUND: Lower limb muscle strain injury is highly prevalent in running-based sports and is considered a risk factor for recurrent injury. It is possible that differences in muscle activity and activation in previously strain-injured limbs may contribute to the elevated risk of reinjury.
OBJECTIVES: To systematically review available literature investigating whether muscle activity and/or activation is different in previously strain-injured muscles compared to contralateral uninjured muscles or uninjured controls.
METHODS: A systematic review of literature in SPORTDiscus, MEDLINE Complete

CONTEXT: Female patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are less likely to return to sport than males. Psychological readiness predicts successful return to sport, but it is unclear if psychological experiences differ between males and females during recovery.
OBJECTIVE: To explore gender differences in psychological readiness factors of return to sport after ACLR.
DESIGN: Qualitative study.
SETTING: Laboratory.
PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS: A total of 12 male (months since surgery = 6.2 ± 1.2) and 13 female (months since surgery = 6.4 ± 1.3) high school athletes w
