[A study of refractive state in premature infants without retinopathy of prematurity during their early life].

OBJECTIVE: To understand the development of the refractive status in premature infants during their early life. METHODS: It was a cross-sectional study. Two hundred fifty-three premature infants without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) were screened for ROP at 4-6 weeks after born. Refraction with cycloplegic retinoscopy was determined. The refractions of 38 infants were compared with those of mature infants at 40-44 weeks' correct gestational age (CGA). RESULTS: The spherical equivalent (SE) increased progressively (become more hypermetropic) along with increasing gestational age (GA), birt

The albino chick as a model for studying ocular developmental anomalies, including refractive errors, associated with albinism.

Albinism is associated with a variety of ocular anomalies including refractive errors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the ocular development of an albino chick line. The ocular development of both albino and normally pigmented chicks was monitored using retinoscopy to measure refractive errors and high frequency A-scan ultrasonography to measure axial ocular dimensions. Functional tests included an optokinetic nystagmus paradigm to assess visual acuity, and flash ERGs to assess retinal function. The underlying genetic abnormality was characterized using a gene microarray, PCR and

The Effect of Allergic Conjunctivitis on Refractive Error in the Pediatric Population.

Introduction Refractive error is one of the most common causes of visual impairment in the world, negatively affecting a patient's quality of life, economic opportunities and more. Although numerous studies have explored the impact of severe ocular allergies on refractive error, there is limited research on how relatively mild forms of ocular allergies may affect vision. This study aims to assess the impact of allergic conjunctivitis, a milder and more common ocular allergy, on the development and progression of refractive error in the pediatric population. Methods This was a retrospective stu
